Lights of Winter - EPCOT archway ??

It seems like if they were going to have them this year they would have been up by now. This will be our 12th year going the first two weeks in December. I'm going to really miss seeing these. It was so magical to see the lights as you walk from Future world to World Showcase. What a shame the someone made such a boneheaded decision. BRING BACK THE LIGHTS.

Not sure when they usually put them up but we were in Disney last year for our wedding - which was in Epcot - and then we were there for a week for our honeymoon. I do not think they were up yet. They were just starting to work on the gingerbread house in the GF.

I am still hoping this is not true. We cannot get down there this year for the holidays but hopefully next year and maybe they will be up then.

This would be more valuable info if you had told us the dates of your wedding trip.
Some of us weren't invited.
(Although, I'm sure it was just an oversight.)

;)

It's official. The Lights of Winter will not be pefromed this year, nor are there current plans to present them at any time in the future. Instead, a new group will be debuting at Epcot: “D’Vine Voices” which is a Gospel choir. The group will perform from Nov. 27 through Dec. 26 on the Fountain of Nations Stage.

53 posts, all of which are decrying the loss of Lights of Winter , and not a single response? Shame. :sad2:

We just need to keep them coming, here is the link again for those who have not had a chance to post there yet. :sad1:

Where is this "official" announcement?

I am so disappointed about this. I really liked the lights.

Has there been an "official" announcement from Disney yet?

There never is, when things are cut. :sad2:

I think the "official confirmation" mentioned earlier came from someone who called and spoke with a CM, who did in fact state that the LoW would not be on display this year. However, given the overall accuracy of information I personally have gotten by calling and speaking to CMs or even their supervisors, I don't know that I'd really count on that as official information.

If you look at the ticker in her signature you will see that today is their Anniversary! :goodvibes

This is sad news:sad2: Although we've gone to Disney the past 2 decembers. This will be our first trip to Epcot. I was looking forward to the lights.

For those folks that only read on the DIS, I invite you to join the effort that a few of us have going on on the Disney Parks Blog comment section in regards to the LoW. http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2009/11/disney-parks-blog-weekly-recap-3/ At the bottom, there are currently about 74 guests that have voiced their displeasure with the looming possiblity of Epcot at the holidays without the LoW display. Please feel free to join in and keep this matter on the table even in a small way. If Disney really wants social media, then they are going to have to listen to their guest's comments and eventually say something of meaning in response.

If you feel the need to take issue with this through other routes, emails are good to voice your displeasure too, but as always, a well thought out letter is better.

It appears that the Orlando Sentinel is going to be looking into this matter and Disney may not be able to wish this away.

Honestly, does it cost THAT much to erect some lighted archways?

gave my two cents on the blog...sorry everybody traveling this december, and lets hope they put them up next year at least.

here's my post to the blog:

No LOW? I couldn’t believe it when I heard this rumor – this was one of the highlights of our 6+ trips. I am running out of reasons to visit during the holidays. Disney World was always my favorite vacation spot because it was a truly magical experience for my family and me. The magic is being replaced by what appears to be thinly veiled corporate greed. Short term profit in exchange for fierce customer loyalty seems like a bad business strategy. This economy won’t last forever and people may start looking elsewhere for their vacation destinations. As someone else posted, social networking brings with it a responsibility to interact with your users, and as of yet, we have heard nothing.

They may not approve the post, we'll see

Ugh, there's a CM on the other site confirming it. I'm still in denial, I think, until we hear it from either a returning DISer or a CM I "know" from his/her postings here. More and more it is getting to feel like Disney is only interested in providing the "base" park experience for the cost of a base ticket - if you want holiday magic, you've got to shell out the $60pp for MVMCP and the 50%+ markup on a meal for the CP package. :sad2:

Yes it has been confirmed, Lights of Winter will not be this year.

So Sad! So Sad!:sad2::sad2::sad2::sad2::sad2:

Ooooh. This breaks my heart. My very favorite Christmas thing at Disney World.....
