Lights of Winter - EPCOT archway ??

Here is the email I received from Disney directly--

Dear Lisa,

Thank you for contacting the Walt Disney World Resort.

There are no plans for Lights of Winter to return at this time. We
update our holiday events and décor annually to offer new experience to
our Guests.

We regularly evaluate all aspects of our business and make adjustments
as needed. ?D?Vine Voices,? an exciting and lively gospel choir, will
perform for the first time this year during Holidays The World on the
Fountain Stage in Future World. They will perform daily Nov. 27 through
Dec. 26.

Lisa, we hope that you will continue to come and see the latest editions
to the Holiday decorations and events that we have planned for 2009.

If you have questions or need further assistance, feel free to contact
us.

So they add something by removing something. What the choir and lights could not exist together? It reminds me a joke, "to feed current kids or to make new ones."

Apparently, Santa is obsolete too....

Down Town Disney announced yesterday they are not having Santa "Paws" this year. That's where you bring your pet to get his or her photo with Santa. I always loved bringing my two labs there. I'll have to look for Santa at PetSmart this year. :confused3

Santa can actually be found in many locations through WDW, in the parks and resorts alike. There is a beautiful "meet Santa" area at the American Adventure pavilion in Epcot, and you can also find a full complement of international Santas (Father Christmas, Pere Noel, etc) at the pavilions in World Showcase. You can even still find Santa at DTD. The only thing going away is the Santa who takes pictures with pets.

It would have been nice if they had offered an option of having Santa appear at the FW kennels or some other more pet friendly environment to have the pictures done instead of just cutting another holiday experience.

.................WHAT !?!?

Why? For over 35 years, WDW didn't offer a "take your pet's picture with Santa" option and no one was upset that their pet, sitting alone in the kennel on Christmas Day, couldn't have their photo taken with Santa at WDW. For a couple of years, Disney tried out the "take your pet's photo with Santa" thing as a little added thing to do. Two years. And now it goes away and you're talking about it like it's always been there and mean ol' Disney cut it out. Disney can't even experiment with stuff any more, because people come back the next year and say, "That was here last year and it's not this year. Disney's making more cutbacks!"

Sometimes something just doesn't work, and so Disney doesn't bring that thing back. Not everything is a cut.

Dear Lisa,

They haven't e-mailed me yet. I feel so unloved.

Sounds like they (or the PR department at least) is pinning a lot of hopes on this choir becoming the new crowd pleaser. I would not want to be D'Vine right now. With this must pressure they better be as good as Michael Jackson, Britney Spears and Byonce combined in terms of putting on a good show.

They already have a wonderful group of singers in Epcot who sing Christmas Carols - Voices of Liberty. I wonder how D'vine will compare. :confused3

Disney is magical at Christmas time and the lights are fantastic. Why wouldn't they want to continue this tradition? We usually go at Christmas time, but this year we went in Sept. And although it was nice, and we were able to swim more and attned MNSSHP, it just wasn't the same. We love Osborne Spectacle of Lights, Cinderella Castle, and yes the archway. Next year we are planning a return to Disney, but maybe we should go at Christmas.
The only thing I ponder is taking 2, 8 year olds out of school for almost 2 weeks. They are both good students, but how much Christmas excitement will they be missing at school?
Disney----By all means get that archway up.....Even adults want some Christmas magic.

Isn't that the truth !!! :santa::santa::santa:

A gospel choir is going to be a little different from Voices of Liberty's performances.

It was like another singing group to us.

We were there this past weekend and my husband commented just how barren the park felt of holiday decorations this year.

Well, I only hope next year they will come put with something special.

I thought D'Vine was very good. They are wonderful singers. That is a great daytime activity but I still miss the Lights of Winter. That area needs something in the evening.
