I know that maritime law makes all ships have enough lifeboats for all passengers. The lifeboats on the dream are fewer in number and seem the same size as the other DCL ships. I know DCL would never put passengers at risk. Still, this keeps bothering me. Could it be an optical illusion because the Dream is so much bigger?

I read those lifeboats can handle like 150 people. I didn't count, but if there are 16 boats (that we can see), that's 2400, so I see the concern. There are likely crew boats and rafts we cannot see. I read a ship's capacity is the number of lifeboat positions available, not the number of beds/rooms. Some lifeboats actually hold over 300 people, but I think that's on the mega ships like RC has. If these are the larger ones....

Of course I don't exactly think we need to call up DCL right away. I suspect they have actually thought about it before we did.

What you are getting at as well, is the broader issue of the increased number of persons. Is the ratio of crew to passengers the same? Are more people crowded onto the same pools, restaurants, etc.? I don't know, I suppose we will see.

Someone posted earlier that the capacity of the Dream life boats is 325 each.
More than enough seats for all the passengers and crew.

Also, there's usually inflatable rafts as well for crew to use, but they are not immediately recognizable as they are in containers.

I noticed this too. But through all the pics I noticed were that they are much wider than the Magic's boats. pirate:

I believe the Oasis can hold 400 in each of their lifeboats---they were super-sized when we saw them in Nassau in Feb.
Its probably the most ugly RCL ship I've seen--but the NCL Epic is the Ugliest ship afloat.

If you look in the area of the SPH windows, you'll see many white drums, part of what makes them SPH. Inside there are inflatable life rafts.
Dh was a welder/mechanic at the Phila. Naval Base way back in his 20's and is very familiar with ship maintenance & such. He said the larger life boats are made to tow multiple rafts. I don't know which would be worse, open raft or in the big boat crammed with so many people, doubtful they're equipped with AC.

You won't get any argument from me, that is one ugly ship!

I agree the Epic is UGLY!. When we were on the WBTA and stopped in St Martaan, we were docked next to the NCL Epic. Here are a couple of shots of the beauty and the Really Ugly Beast!

Disney continues to do it in style!:dance3:

Have to chime in here as well. That is an ugly boat! It literally looks like a hotel floating on the water...an ugly hotel at that!!

NCL Epic I have to agree is REALLY ugly. This ship looks like they took ship sizes building blocks and just put them on the top of the ship - very boxy, unbalanced and not very appealing to the eye. The life boats look like they are stuck in the side of the ship and stick way out. Passengers I spoke to in St. Marteen in October told me that when they are on thier verandah and look down all they can see is the huge life boat and not the water. DCL ships with their trational styling are far more appealing to the eye.

For those who may not believe your comment, here is a shot of the side of the epic, with the lifeboats.

Most modern life rafts are enclosed to protect passengers from the sun and/or cold. I think the greatest danger would be from the seasick passengers after bobbing around in a small boat/raft.
