Life’s too short...to never sleep in a treehouse! 8/27 TR is up! Link in siggie

sounds busy, but 4 days of no kids' shuffle sounds lovely in and of itself.

Me? My weekend is 1/2 over... I spent the majority of the day working on my flip calendars. I want to have them ready to sell when I get back- it could mean another bit of spending money for the trip. Mexican for dinner, choco chip cookies, and DIS time. Tomorrow: Team worship, down time, long nap, maybe finish calendars, leftovers, bed. Not bad.

Not too busy, of course I left out yardwork which really needs to get in there tomorrow....

Your weekend sounds pretty lovely actually! I wish I could nap, just not a skill I've ever had.

Just getting caught up. I have ridden on that Ferris Wheel at DCA and I freaked out too. It is incredibly scary. I didn’t think that it would swing back & forth as much as it did. Whenever we are there now, we always consider going on it again… and then we pass. I’m sure we will go on it again but they put us in a cage with a parent with some small kids. The kids were freaking out & the parent was doing nothing. I don’t care to relive that again.

We really like Soarin’ and all of the history on the walls. It really helps to pass the time when you are standing in line. BTW – the picture that you asked if it was Carsland is actually the bear head on the top of the Grizzly River Run. From the side you can see it better, but he is opening his mouth and roaring. From the viewpoint of your photo, you are looking right into his mouth & up his nose.

Is Lake Shasta the one in California? If so, that is where I live! Redding. I’m assuming that you are talking about a place in Washington though…

Huge update! Congrats on being almost paid off. That is a satisfying feeling!

I keep meaning to tell you that I have been taking a Zumba class once a week. I know that you like it & I am really enjoying it. So much fun!

Phew! I am finally caught up.

I will never get behind again. This thing moves so fast it is too much of a challenge to catch up again!

Really enjoying your CA report. Your upgraded hotel room, and especially the view was fantastic!

Can't believe how fast your WDW trip is getting!

As for the photopass session at YC, if you keep your eyes open and are prepared to keep checking a couple of days or so, I am sure you will luck out and be able to snag the photographer for a couple of candids. We saw him taking candids for people on a number of occasions during our stay which were obviously not a booked 1/2 hour photo session.;)

That is weird that they put you in with another family! I didn't see them making people share, I would not have been happy about that at all. What an uncomfortable situation. Was this before you had Dylan? that would have been even more wierd!

I didn't think it was carsland but I didn't remember the bear head being quite that big, amazing how different it seemed to look from up in the air.

Yep! The one in CA. Taylor's youth group does a huge houseboat trip there. Lucky kid! I've only driven by it but it looks so pretty. Jeff has done houseboat trips there too, something I think would be a fun family week someday.

I love Zumba. Really wish there were more classes at more times!

:goodvibes I just went back and updated all my links, I'm terrible about that so I end up having to a whole bunch at once. You have a good reason for being behind....11 days in Disney!

I loved our Paradise Pier room and that view was amazing. I still want to stay at GC one of these days but if not, we were pretty happy there. I need to get another TR update as there is actually still a lot of the trip I haven't gotten to!

That's a great idea Trish, I am going to do that, I just love the pool shot you got, hopefully it's the same guy. WL apparently has evening portraits in the lobby so I think I'll try that too and save the $75, or book it once I am there. I think. :rotfl: I am going to call and find out what you really get for the $75 but then of course it becomes a whole question about what do people wear and all that and Jeff would be pretty resistant to anything involving new clothes just for the shoot.

AKL had a photographer doing family portraits in the Jambo House lobby as well in January. But we found the background to be a bit boring (just a rock).

Also, I would suggest to put in your request what kind of bed set up you want. Since this seems to be the most important thing with your rooms, why not put this as your first request? :goodvibes

Good point! A rock wouldn't be all that exciting.

Well for WL we are booked for the two queen rooms so are all set there, they have it as a booking code. I'll live with whatever view as long as we have connecting. I figured since based on what I've read about the woods view, almost anything will be fine, I might as well try to be super specific on the view request, nothing to lose lol.

For YC, since there are 5 in our room on the reservation we will get a 2 queen room with a daybed, basically they have to! It is requested for Paul and Sandie's but since there are only 2 on that ressie, they can't/won't guarantee that. That's the room I worry about. In all likelihood I won't know what they got until they arrive but hopefully they can tell me at check in since we have requested connecting. The standard room could be any of these

* One queen-size bed and a day bed
* 2 queen-size beds
* 2 queen-size beds and a day bed
* One king-size bed
* One king-size bed and a day bed

Best scenario is both rooms have 2 queens and a daybed (then none of the kids have to share a bed and the smaller people get the daybeds) but at a minimum we need their room to not be just a king. They will add Evan to their room at check in, and I'll mention it at check in as well because then at least they couldn't give us just the king only.

Ok, I think I understand the problem now! You really have a very complicated trip! I am glad that my trips so far only included two people, much much easier to plan! :goodvibes I am sure everything will work out fine, though!! :thumbsup2

planning for two would be lovely, I don't get to do that very often! But I confess, I enjoy all the details of the larger group and figuring it all out.

alot of good info in that update, i do have to say i think you should go for a few more pins, not sure what you paid for yours, but there are a good amount you can get for right about 1.00 with free shipping,

i got lucky on mine i found someone just starting selling, and got 80 for an average of .75 cents per pin with free shipping.

ended up trading all of them except maybe 10 which we kept, wow we had alot of pins, i just realized that.

Wow that is a lot of pins! I'm too cheap. Or spending too much on sunscreen. I am considering getting more though. You got a better deal than I did, I think I paid $1.10 per pin. Great pins though.

Peak Ice tea and lemonade is at the CS soda bar at WL.

As far as scheduling a picture session. Let me give you a little tip. If you find the park ranger at the WL and take that morning tour he can hook you up with the PP photographer there and you can get some limited outside pictures of the whole group. Just a suggestion if you don't want to schedule a session.

Great tip, I'm actually building that into my touring plan, only problem is our last morning looks like it might be best for it for a couple of reasons. How early is the morning tour? We could maybe do it on day 2 before we go to Typhoon Lagoon, I'm just not sure the group will be acclimated enough to get up early to do something at 8 (4 am our time, bleh) and won't really know until we are there.

Wow! Great update! It sounds like you have gotten so much done!:thumbsup2 YAY for almost being paid off! That's always a great feeling!

Oohh...sandals! We just did a little sandal shopping here ourselves the other day, after having a very similar conversation. Nick assured me that his fit.... until I looked for myself and noticed that his toes were sticking way over the end.:rolleyes1

I'm hoping to get my boys into pin trading next trip. I think it would really be something that they would enjoy.

We decided not to make shirts on our trip either. We usually do...but they just don't hold up in the wash.:sad2: It's too bad too because there are some really cute DISigns.

i just saw one today for 1.00 per pin and others that were auctions that were under a dollar per pin, but you had to buy more and take your chances bidding on them.

So, wait a sec. Did I miss somethin? Are you going to get a photo shoot done? Or just rely on PP? And you're thinking about different places to do it??

If I do it, I'll probably stick with my seller as it was wicked fast (free) shipping and no bidding. Worth the extra 10 cents lol.

Debating. Yesterday I was leaning towards no photo shoot, today I feel the opposite! LOL. We will do it at WL if we do it.

FOUR WEEKS from today, right about this time we will be getting ready to hit the parks for the first time! We may or may not have gotten into our room yet but we will be there, will have our tickets, full bellies and ready to hop on a boat to the MK.

With all the changes to Sandie and Paul’s dates, the 3 days at WL it naturally threw more than just my ADR’s off! Now that we have 4 days solo and then 4 with them it has really caused me to rethink my touring plan. I’d planned to have a tentative plan with what parks which days would be “best” but not really worry too much about it. Now, with Sandie and Paul only there for 4 days, I really need to make sure we hit all the parks before they get there, and after and the “after” won’t have that flexibility to be maybe quite as relaxed so they can see as much as possible. Here is my new plan. I could really use some input here as it’s not feeling quite right yet. I’ve struggled with it and am still a little overwhelmed. It’s better but…..I’m sure you will all have some great ideas!

Pro’s to the plan
  • ½ a day at all parks prior to Paul and Sandie arriving, including TL, DTD and DQ
  • 2 full days @ MK, DHS and Epcot
  • 1.5 days at AK
  • Pool time every day built in
  • Nightastic, Wishes, Electric Boat Parade and Illuminations all factored in
  • Major closings factored in
  • Rope drop at all except Epcot
Con’s
  • No DTD time scheduled with Paul and Sandie. I figure one of the ½ days at Epcot or DHS could be dropped for this if need be.
  • DHS is only in the AM, could be a ride issue
  • Epcot is only in the PM, could be a soaring issue
  • Can’t figure out how to fit the Disney Electric Parade or Spectro in based on dinner timings….
  • No F! would LOVE to see F! but at the one showing and dinner times…just isn’t fitting in (again), such a huge time commitment to see it but would really love to.

I have not layered in any specifics beyond what you see so far so am super open to what I might be missing in terms of key things (WS performance times, beach movies at either resort, etc). Parades are not a big deal though other than I’d like to see both MK nighttime ones if I can figure out how to make that work.

I'll take a stab at it......

First I gotta say that it seems that you are running from one thing to another every 3 hours and I don't think you've built in enough time for transportation. I know the times you listed aren't cast in stone but it takes a lot of time to move that many people.

Have you given any thought to making this your first day? (Wed 8/11) Switch day 1 with 2 if you can move the ADRs. It seems a bit more forgiving if your cross country travel wasn't the best and need a more low key day....in any case the plan looks good for this day.

If that was my ADR for Park Fare at 1030am the only park I would be going to that morning would be MK....you're going to be on a bus all morning. And I'm worried that 2 hours for a swim is not enough time to get back to the resort, change into suits, play in the pool and then get changed again for Epcot.

UGH! I know, and why I need help!. This is what stresses me out about this time of year. We will need the pool breaks but it's such a chunk out of a day. It is just as much work for 2 parks with a pool break in the middle as going back to the same park though. It was a lot easier to plan last year without allowing for that. I'm also really worried about people actually getting up early enough for this plan but I've been warning them for months that this is how we have to do it to beat the heat so...we will see how that really plays out.

I did but, 2 things. One there is the later EMH at AK on arrival day and 2 I'm just not sure we will have the energy for a water park after a red eye and I'd rather hit parks first. My original plan with POP was a resort day and then DTD but I'm worried about losing park time and that EMH ADR at Tusker is hard to get. If I moved it to the next day it would be before park close which is way earlier than we eat dinner lol.

I figure if we are wiped at arrival we can hang at the resort till dinner if we have to or try to do a nap once we get in the room, it is flexible

That was my original plan. Until I found out that TSM CLOSES on the 16th. I had considered either MK after Park Fare or simply just back to the resort, hitting Epcot earlier and dropping DHS other than the TSM attempt before bfast. I could move Park Fare but to when? I'd like to do it while at WL and didn't really want 2 sit down bfasts in a row but it could be moved to the prior day. We don't have to be at Epcot by 4.

I figured we'd play that one by ear, it will really depend on what time people melt at AK. Dinner isn't until 7:30, if we leave AK at 1 then that is a LOT of resort time and folks may be chomping at the bit. Or not lol.

Ale & Compass or BCM for CS Breakfast
MK @ 9 for rope drop.
Girls Tea @ the GF 2:20 (boys do whatever they want lol!)
AK 4-7:30 (EMH night)
Drinks at Dawa Bar
Captain's Grille for dinner @ 8:15 PM
Late night swim
Any thoughts to getting Saana for this night instead since you will be in AK just prior?

I tried! And tried and tried and tried. Will keep trying. It would be much better. I originally had a 7:20 Tusker ADR for this night (still have it actually) but b/c AK closes at 9 the later CG seemed mildly better. With a 9pm close we won't get anything after dinner at Tusker (making the EMH feel a little like a tease lol) whereas at 7:35 on arrival day with a 10pm close, we would.

I could do a 2:40 lunch at Sanaa (and then in-park CS dinner at FTB) but then would have to move the tea to....I don't know when lol. Has to be after Sandie arrives and she didn't want the 15th as she didn't want to "abandon" Paul on the first day.

Breakfast in Room
DHS 9-12 Rope drop if possible but not critical
Hurricane Hannahs or BCM CS for lunch
SAB 12-2
Epcot 2-4:30 or 2- 6:30 depending on what time cruise is
World Showcase or SAB/resort for drinks
Kouzzina 5:10 or 7 depending on what final cruise time is
Illuminations cruise at 8 or 9, touring will depend on cruise time
Back to Epcot for EMH (open till 12)

This one is interesting as ALL the published info has Illuminations at 9 but when we rebooked the cruise they said 10. This is what happened to me last year but in reverse, published info said 10 and I made ADR's accordingly and then it got switched to 9 so we didn't see it once!

I really hope it's at 10 I do not want to eat at 5:10.

Fairfax Fare CS for lunch

Sanaa for dinner @ 8:15 PM
Captain's Grille switch with Sanaa??

And I wouldn't worry about getting back to DTD just for Sandie and Paul's sake.....they are the ones that changed their plans on you.
:goodvibes

I would prefer that dinner switch and will keep trying. Same problem though, nothing avail at CG. I can get Yachtsman at 9:15 but we'd be looking at OOP and then using DDP for the breakfast the next day which isn't be best use of credits (though would be a lovely last night dinner).

I did but, 2 things. One there is the later EMH at AK on arrival day and 2 I'm just not sure we will have the energy for a water park after a red eye and I'd rather hit parks first.

So funny how we all have different takes on things....to me you need less energy for a water park because you don't have to really pay attention to anything like you do at the parks....but I see your angle.....takes a lot of energy to walk up those stairs for the slides (I'd be in the Lazy river after an hour )

That was my original plan. Until I found out that TSM CLOSES on the 16th. I had considered either MK after Park Fare or simply just back to the resort, hitting Epcot earlier and dropping DHS other than the TSM attempt before bfast.

Yeah, if the goal is to do TSM then hit that up that morning but I'd go to MK after breakfast.

Now granted I don't memorize the Illuminations schedule every month but 10pm does not seem correct.....it's almost always at 9pm. (Disney's schedule has it at 930pm in December but in July it's 9pm so I can't understand why it would be 10pm in August). I think the person you spoke with was confusing the Illuminations time with the MK Fireworks time (which is 10pm)

I'm having a hard time believeing that CG is booked solid. I think it's your party size.....same with Saana.
