Life’s too short...to never sleep in a treehouse! 8/27 TR is up! Link in siggie

yikes!! I'm tired just from reading about your day! I'm afraid I would be a blubbering mess if I had to go through all of those. I have applied for 3 jobs in my life, all of which I got.

My first was in high school working at the local chinese restraunt...the only qualification was being 16 and capable of serving without spilling things all over the customer.....obviously the guy didn't realize what a clutz I was.

Just the thought of getting out there in a few years when I'm done with school scares the holy heck out of me.

:rotfl:

You know, the 6 months have been humbling on that front. I've never had to look before, not really. Either I was recruited in or promoted up. When I have looked, I've identified who I wanted to work for, gone after then and that was that.

The hard part has been not so much not getting things I wanted, it has been not even getting the chance to interview for them.

I heard back from both of the owners already but of course, the emails said nothing other than that I should be hearing from them shortly regarding their decision. Which would imply they've made one. Interesting given that the HR person is out until the 4th.

:scared1:

I do have faith that whatever it is, it will be the right thing. Still, the waiting isn't fun! One would hope that the package, benefits and references (which they asked for on my way out the door) conversations wouldn't have happened if they weren't leaning towards the positive but...who knows!

Pretty sure I don't have time for the handwritten note but need to get the other 2 emails out asap!

After the baseball meeting.

Congrats on booking PP. And congrats on completing your interview. I'm sure you did great and I hope you are resting, relaxing, and regrouping!

Ok I have another round scheduled for Friday at 2 to meet with HR and the Office Manager and to review some of my previous work with the guy I'd be reporting to as we didn't get a chance to look at much of it and no time to actually discuss it.

I did get a little paranoid there for about an hour after hearing back from the owners...deliberate vagueness will do that to a person! :rotfl:

Must be karma, I did not hear back from him until I'd sent thank you's 6 and 7.

LOL.

I am thrilled though that he used the phrase "I am excited to take the next step" in scheduling it.

Hopefully my competition is not moving to the next step! Of course for all I know he met with them last week (when I refused to do on such short notice) so has an edge. Heck if he has industry experience they may have, or more accurately, likely have run into him elsewhere as he would have to be working for one of their competors unless he's from outside the regions they play in (which is most of the western US).

Need.to.stop.overthinking.

Not one of the easiest things for me to do. :rotfl2:

Not that I'm competitive.

not at all.

I actually read your full update last night, but I was on my way to bed. GACH! I hate having to sleep! (OK, hate waking up even more)

Anyway, 6 hours is an atrociously long time to sit and have to actively engage and think.

Although I wouldn't say I got the feeling that you have it in the bag, I do think you're definitely IN the running!! I would be a little surprised at this point if you didn't get it.

I hope you did keep your vacays as non-negotiable. That is one of the reasons you are GETTING the job! Right??

Round 2 will be the tell all. We'll know Friday....

Aack. Not sure if I will know on Friday. I actually doubt it as they will need to regroup after those meetings and who knows where they are at with the other candidate. It will make for a long weekend! Or a sad weekend. Or a celebratory weekend. :confused3

me no know.

The reality is, assuming they have met with the other candidate for the major (full day) round, they already know who they want. Unless they decide they don't want either of us! :rotfl: The 2 interviews on Friday are more of a courtesy, a "we need you to meet" before they could actually extend an offer. The fact that they are scheduling it officially, before either woman is back from their vacation, is a very very good sign. He had said he wanted to schedule it but still, until it's done, it's not "done". You know?

Oh I want the job for many reasons, not the least of which is the ability to afford vacations and travel. If I don't go away for a long out of country trip with Jeff (no kids) in '11 it will be a HUGE issue. With him. I need to contribute my share for that. Plan is for Australia....

But there are other reasons. Financial security, personal fulfillment, mental growth and stimulation, contributing equally to my household and ensuring the E's are fully provided for for college etc (Jeff handles K&T, I handle the E's when it comes to stuff like that, at least right now) and of course being able to save up and pay cash for DVC!

I have never not worked full time until all of this started 2 years ago. I have never not contributed equally or more to my household. Heck, I was a single mom and sole provider for 4 years. It's been hard but good. I love knowing I can lean on Jeff, don't get me wrong. It isn't really what either of us signed up for though and that can, eventually, lead to resentment. I am mindful of that.

Ok...TMI I am sure!

I figure worst case is a 2 week vacation package with some personal days. I can work with that. It would make some things tight (like my sisters wedding, Evan's TKD tourney in Chicago, Gourmet club weekend and Ron's birthday in PS next Nov...I've already told my mom I'm skipping Girl Scout camp this year lol) but I think between personal days and mooching I could work around most of it, or just miss things. CA in April and FL in August are safe at a minimum.

I would like more of course and think I may have some leverage in that area but we will see. At my level 3 weeks is a little more standard (4 is what I used to have!). I did outline 3 weeks and no one blinked. We will see. That's definitely an HR thing so I should know on Friday about that if nothing else.

I won't quote, as that's a large brainfull of stuff right there!

I totally understand your reasons for going after this job. And no it's not TMI! I think it's a good mind-set to know you could be going into it , though, knowing you might have to give up at least a few of the extras outside of the larger vacays- like Girl Scout camp. I guess that's part of the trade off.

Like you say, on Friday, at least you'll know about that.

Australia??!! Nice! :thumbsup2 My parents LOVED their trip there. So much to see and do.

I hate not knowing.....obviously I haven't learned the whole patience thing.;) So I can imagine how you're feeling. Maybe you could spend the last few days of "freedom" while you can....sleep all day, watch daytime t.v., eat bon bons.....

Part of our agreement when we married was to make sure we made time for couples only trips. To put "us" first. Since we are on the 2nd/3rd time's a charm plan, we recognize the danger of not doing so. It is really really important to both of us. That said, last year, and this year, we've taken those funds and put them to family trips. We haven't had more than a long weekend away sans kids since May of 2007. Which for us is a long time. It takes at least a week to really relax, really be AWAY......

Part of Jeff agreeing to the 10 day FL extravaganza was a promise that Australia wouldn't get pushed...again.

I'm ok with that! Although I really want to see NZ as well and he doesn't feel we can do both in one trip (or in one trip that we'd have enough vacation days for lol!).

Besides, I have that cruise planned that he doesn't yet know about.

I do know something will have to give vacation wise if this job comes through. The pro of being home has been unlimited flexibility in that area. The con is no funds to do anything with. This summer was hard on both of us in that area. Really really hard. We are committed to not letting that happen again, sports schedules (and funds) or not. We will just make changes elsewhere if we have to.

I just re-read the email from the guy I'd be working for. Far more positive than I took it as initially, apparently I had insightful thoughts and bring a welcome fresh perspective!

I will totally take it. :rotfl:

I do need to figure out a summer weekend away somehow though, Vancouver had it's ups and downs and wasn't as vacation-y as we both would have liked and needed from a couple perspective.

I hate not knowing.....obviously I haven't learned the whole patience thing.;) So I can imagine how you're feeling. Maybe you could spend the last few days of "freedom" while you can....sleep all day, watch daytime t.v., eat bon bons.....

I'll be honest, a huge part of me would prefer, if this happens, that the job not start until after we get back from Cali. Pretty sure that's too far out though.

yeah...me and bon bons....and daytime TV! :rotfl:

I will be getting my Zumba in, that is the one thing that will be a huge hardship for me, my Wednesday am class. What I should do is laundry, pruning, interior paint touch up and the all million little things I should get done because I am home. Like mending. BLEH.

I hate not knowing too....it could be a brutal weekend.

I'll have, at a minimum, 2 weeks of freedom before it would start from offer acceptance. Assuming there is an offer made of course.

Hey, Cynthia--I have faith there will be an offer for you.

Haven't been around much lately, but I gotta say you are the type of person I would reccommend for hire.

And I reccommend people for hire where I work all the time and we've never been disappointed.

This piqued my interest, of course! ;) Any ideas on where in Australia you plan/want to go? We traveled quite a bit around the country when we lived there so if you have any questions, feel free to ask. We never made it to New Zealand unfortunately, but I'd love to go one day.

I second that! You will be a quality employee...there is little doubt in anyone's mind about that....but we will miss all your engaging conversations here on the Dis boards. Look, I have you hired already!

I will definitely be reaching out for you when the time comes Carissa! Jeff has been, mostly around Port Douglas and that's his focus. Me, I need to do a lot of homework to figure out where I want to go. It's a darn big country! We actually has a small squabble about it as I want input and he was kind of dictating where we'd go and while I appreciate that he's been before there are (or may be) other things worth looking at! Granted that was a long time ago, before we decided to use last years trip funds for the FW family trip instead of a couple trip. Part of the reason we postponed it was at that time, the airfares were just insane. Who knows what it will be like a year from now which is when we'd be thinking about buying or plotting buying..

Still, he has some pretty specific things in mind so we'll see!

Aww, thanks Mary Ellen!

One of the truly beautiful things about this opportunity is that it is, literally, 7 minutes from my house. My morning routine (which includes DIS!) would not need to change at all! I won't have time in the middle of the day anymore though and I need to figure out what I want to do with the kids in the afternoons...if I get the job I will probably post about that as I could use some input.

I look forward to hearing all about your plans. I lived in Alice Springs and we drove to Uluru (Ayer's Rock) - the only thing really worth seeing out there. We also visited Sydney a couple of times, Perth and the area south of it (beautiful!), Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, and quite a bit of time in Adelaide and Kangaroo Island.

I know airfare is crazy to get there. Thankfully, the government paid for ours (including our trips in the country - because we were in a remote location, they provided the airfare to help keep us sane :rolleyes1 ). :thumbsup2

So much to see it will be hard to decide and it's not like things are close to each other! I can't wait.

That is the hardest part - such a large country and the biggest cities are all along the coast - north, south, east, and west. Definitely makes it tricky.
