Life’s too short...to never sleep in a treehouse! 8/27 TR is up! Link in siggie

I love hearing about everyone's traditions also.

This year is totally different for my kids but is alot like my Christmas' growing up.

Today all the grandkids gathered to make cookies for Santa, this ended in frosting every where, but it ws fun to watch the 2 yr old eat more frosting than she put on the cookie.

Dinner is usually cheese and broccoli soup in bread bowls . Christmas eve we head to see the lights downtown. Then it's home where the kids get new pajama's.

We read the christmas story from the bible, track santa on Norad and then spend several hours trying to get the kids to sleep.

In the morning we're up by 6, 7 if we're lucky. We have breakfast before opening presents. Which is always our family butterscotch rolls.

We spend the day enjoying being with family as friends and family drop by for an all day buffet.

Makes me tired just thinking about it! Right now , I'm waiting for the kids to fall asleep so I can tell Santa he can visit.

Merry Christmas Cynthia & Family

Christmas traditions, you say?

Well, Christmas Eve for me is spent doing music, music, music. I leave my house around 3:15pm to get to church early to set up. I stay at church until after 8:15pm because I am responsible for two masses. Last night I had more help than ever......

Chase...violin
Zach.....flute
Jack....trumpet
Dagmar....recorder, violin
Nicholas (my Nick)....drums, guitar
Me....guitar
Vocals....Linda, Suzie, Natalie, and me

8 musicians, and most of them high school students! They did a great job, worked hard, and volunterred their time happily. They recieved many compliments and I was honored to be their mentor. I was totally exhausted when I got home. Denny and Brian came to the 7pm mass and they helped me lug all sorts of equipment home.

Today we stayed home. Neither Denny or I have family that live close. We often visit Denny's brother for Christmas, but they did not have their annual Christmas party. They are actually new parents, welcoming their first grandson at 12:26am on Christmas morning!

So we had a big omlet this morning for brunch and tonight we have ham for dinner. Ham, mashed potatoes, green beans, and salad. Oh....and some wine! But right now I have a few minutes for Dis'ing.

We also just got Fios TV which has allowed me to view all my old Disney pictures on the big screen. I also watched some of the Disney Christmas parade which looked even better than usual with the Fios, plus its all recorded for later.

What fun traditions to read about from everyone! Thanks for sharing, All!

My family always set out luminaries since I grew up on So. Cal. Also on Christmas Eve we make and eat a big Mexican food feast- Chili Colorado or tamales!! YUM! This year, I didn't have any corn husks so it was chili Colorado.

We allow the kids to open one gift each, we sing some carols, and if we're in the States, we gather as extended family on DH's side.

Christmas morning is spent just us. Stockings, a special meal of almond wreath bread, fruit, eggs and juice. Then gifts.

The rest of the day is play, rest, reading, maybe a board game, etc... Then a special dinner.

Morning All!!!

Christmas Dinner was very good !! Kyle was soooooo well behaved andmy SIL was thrilled that I joined them for the first time since my divorce !! She doesn't have much good to say about her brother , in fact she told her sil's niece that I used to be her brother's wife but now he's married to a B*****!!:rotfl2: I have become the official dishwasher loader at my nieces house as no one else claims to know how other than said niece :lmao: So I guess Christmas Dinner will be with them from now on!!!Judy is happy about it as she grew up in tht tradition !! It is so nice for Kyle as he has 3 cousins around his age !!!!

What a great idea for a post!

Christmas Eve we go over to the inlaws. We do a seafood buffet type meal. We are making scallops wrapped in bacon and a crab dip. Other people are making crab rangoons, coconut shrimp, salad and some sort of fish chowder or lobster bisque. The food is great!

Christmas Day we go over to my parents. We have Roast, Yorkshire Pudding, Carrots with bacon and lots of other yummy stuff. For dessert we have cheesecake.

Then we'll head home and Marc & I will exchange presents. :santa:
Leslie, that all sounds so good! Crab Rangoons? Yum yum and yum! My ex's family used to do surf and turf on Christmas day and it was yummy.

I hope you and Marc had a lovely Christmas!

Cynthia, Merry Christmas!!! :santa: My stomach was growling just reading your food descriptions!

For Christmas Eve, we head to my parents' for dinner and presents. We always have Mexican food, and this year, I am bringing a Tres Leches cake.

Christmas morning, we will probably be up at the crack of dawn opening gifts and then watching the Disney parade. Around noon we will head to my SIL's for brunch. I am bringing the hash brown casseroles, the mini pancake muffins, and the Lemon Fizzes. We will then hang out there for quite awhile playing games and such. :)

I am all about the food and message as well.

Mnn, Jackie that sounds so good! Mexican would be very fun, we will likely do that tonight, it's the perfect day after meal!

Tres Leches cake, YUM! I hope you had a lovely Christmas!

Merry Christmas, hon!

Christmas Eve is all about the three of us. We're staying home this year (which is our favorite thing to do), and according to Italian tradition, we make thirteen dishes, none of which can be meat. There's a lot of fish in my house tonight! :goodvibes Thank god I recently got my appetite back, or that would have been killer.

Tomorrow, we'll have our nice quiet morning, and then Mom, Nana, my Dad, my FIL over for the day. It'll be a relaxed marathon snacking/meal interspersed with present opening and finally dessert. Quite frankly, it's perfect.

But my favorite part, by far, will be watching my son open his gifts. He's so excited about Santa coming. :santa:

TK, YAY that the appetite is back and that the baby pirate didn't deprive you of your Christmas feast! Wow, 13 dishes with no meat, that is a lot of pasta.

Relaxed marathon snacking meal. I love it! Sounds like a perfect day to me.

I hope your Christmas was magical! Watching the kids open their presents is the best!!!

My traditions have changed !

Christmas Eve is usually quiet other than last minute wrapping and shopping !Cookies, milk and carrots for Santa and Rudolph!!!Early to bed !! For the kids that is but then our work starts !!!

Christmas morning starts when the kids get up ( hopefully not toooooo early)!! First is stockings and then the gifts !!
We keep breakfast simple .this year breakfast hot pckets and muffinswashed down with juice !!
Dinner his year is back to an old Tradition with my ex in laws I have to bring a potato casserole anda mincemeat pie ( with sherry) Judy imaking a relish tray!!

Then my Tradition is the 26th to hit Walmart for all the 50% off stuff for next year:rotfl2:

I haven't had mincemeat in years, that reminds me of my grandma who was quite the pie baker, Rosie, I hope you and Judy had a lovely day!

New jammies at our house on Christmas eve too! mnn, broccoli and cheddar soup, that sounds lovely and so do the butterscotch rools. Cherie, I hope you and the rest of the Winkers clan had a wonderful day!

Ok, I feel like a total dork, what is a Fios TV?

Your music sounds fabulous, how lovely to fill your evening with song. I didn't realize Nick played drums and guitar, how fun to have him part of it. I bet the music was incredible!

A quiet day with just family can be just as lovely as the chaotic big groups and I imagine that it was wonderful after how busy you were the night before!

What fun traditions to read about from everyone! Thanks for sharing, All!

Board games on Christmas day is a big part of our day too. My sister joked that it felt like we were at camp! Board games in some rooms, kids on the wii, guitars playing in the background, outdoor hikes...

Sadly I was completely annihilated by my father in scrabble and my sister in Tower of Terror Clue. Goofy the Bellhop disappeared from the Tip Top Club with the Mickey Statuette if anyone is wondering!

Mnn, Almond wreath bread and Chili Colorado! I love luminaries, so pretty!

Liesa, I hope you had a wonderful Christmas in Blank a Stan!

Isn't it wonderful when enough time passes that it's ok to be together again? My brother got divorced last year and that first set of holidays was rough. Enough time had passed that my ExSIL (who is still my SIL in my heart and always will be) was able to be part of our day and it was fine for everyone. We were so happy to have her there, and more importantly so were my nephews.

That is wonderful for you and Judy, it sounds like a lovely evening and perfect for Kyle!

Sorry I've been MIA - - I really missed a lot! (that's what I'm sad about!)

As we busily prepare our own holiday traditions, I'd love to know some of yours!

* What do you do Christmas Eve?
* Christmas Day?
* What is your MUST have Christmas food?
* What is your MUST have Christmas dessert?
* Holiday Tradition?

I too enjoy reading everyone's traditions - Cynthia, that is funny about Jim and Christmas Carol!

Christmas Eve has always been the "mom's day" (Grandma Sweeney, than my mom, and now me - we as kids always knew where we'd be on Christmas Eve - and now my kids do the same! Even tho DS#1 is married, he's made it a tradition to go to DW party, but be back here in time to gather, and then sleep to wake up here on Christmas day!! This year her 17 year old sister got kicked out - and now lives with them - Santa came here. We overwhelmed the poor girl - her mom only gives them a $15 gift card - Santa brought her 1 box of Reeses Cereal, 3 different kinds of cookies, PJ's, 1 CD, and 1 pair of Target "ugg" style boots. Doesnt that break your heart? It does mine!)

Christmas Eve - snacks - Shrimp, veggies, cheese... and the Elves enjoy champagne while they wrap. till 2 am (why always that late? :confused3)

Christmas Day - PRESENTS. DH stays up on Eve to bake homemade cinnamon rolls - this year DS #2 and DH had a bake off!! LOL

I always make sure santa brings a "toy" this year the boys got a "Hog" with a lazer pointer that the car sticks to the ceiling and walls and varoom varoom! This was a HUGE Hit! Santa couldnt find szhu zshu pets but found "bugs" at Toys R Us - a micro chip - that moves thru vibration it was hysterical

Yikes... too much info...

we also make Martha Stewarts Prime Rib, roasted potatoes, and Yorkshire PUdding! YUM!!

Merry Christmas Mary Ellen!

Ok, I feel like a total dork, what is a Fios TV?

Your music sounds fabulous, how lovely to fill your evening with song. I didn't realize Nick played drums and guitar, how fun to have him part of it. I bet the music was incredible!

I am not exactly sure what Fios stands for. I think its some type of fiberoptic system that Verizon uses for TV. Verizon now completely owns us. We have always had their land line, cell phones, and computer network. Now we have their TV. So now we can interface the computer with the TV and watch all our photos and video directly from the TV without any intermediates hook-ups. I could also access facebook directly, if I ever decide to do facebook! Which I might, now that my TR is coming to a close. I can also play any mp3 files on my computer (which includes my original music) directly through the TV. I warned Denny that I might have to start doing this after I listened to him play Van Morrison for 3 hours today!!!!!!!! :rolleyes1 That was the end of Van! :rotfl2:

Oh, and Nick - he took drum lessons for several years and just switched to guitar last spring. He used my old acoustic guitar that I've had since high school. It's a nice little guitar and I am glad its getting some use.

I resisted the scrapbooking over the years armed with the knowledge that my strive for perfection with it would take over my life. So I resisted. But the virtual scrapbooking looks doable. By doable I mean it won't take over a room of it's own in my house. I just may have to look further into it.

By the way-your pages look awesome. It makes me want to come with you!

Hope you had a great Christmas.

Our Christmas Traditions changed this year. My father sold his flower shop. He was the third generation and so we all used to work there during the Christmas rush. It was wierd NOT to be working Christmas eve. I can't say it was enjoyable as I have worked there since I was fourteen so it will take some getting used to. However, I'm sure it will become enjoyable in the years to come. Plus my FIL passed away this fall. So it felt a bit out of sorts with both sides of the family this year. Lots of reminising down memory lane of Christmas pasts.

So fun to read about everyone's traditions!
We have a few. Christmas Eve its Church at 5:00, then back to our house for dinner with my parents and brothers. I made this awesome beef stew recipe from allrecipes.com: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Kyles-Favorite-Beef-Stew/Detail.aspx

Then my 9yr old made us some of Paula Deen's White Hot Chocolate:
1 cup white chocolate chips
1 pint heavy cream
1 quart half-n-half
1 tsp peppermint extract.
So yummy - and fattening, of course!

The girls get to open one gift. Then after my parents and brothers leave, we read the nativity story and The Night Before Christmas. After we put the girls to bed, Scott and I always watch The Christmas Story on TBS while we wait for Santa.

On Christmas morning, of course the girls get up early for Santa, then my parents and brothers come back over with more gifts. I always make a sausage and egg casserole. In the late afternoon, we gather with the extended family at either my mom's, or one of her sister's houses. This year it was my moms. We do the traditional turkey dinner, and everybody brings something. I brought the cheese carrot casserole. We have about 30 family members that come. After dinner we have a gift exchange (we draw names at Thanksgiving).

I love that there are so many different ways to celebrate. How fun that some of you have a seafood dinner or mexican!

.... Other people are making crab rangoons....

Really??!! I thought we only had those in St. Louis - everywhere else I've lived no one has ever heard of them!

Really enjoyed the Christmas traditions and the different types of food!!!

Now how about NEW YEAR Traditions !!!

We do not make New Year Resolutions as they always get broken:lmao:
We have lots of snacking type foods and Hats and Noise makers ( that drive the dogs crazy) We all sit around and watch the Ball drop and then we do !!!:lmao:
Every year Judy says she's going out and thenchanges her mind !! Of course she is saying the same thing this year sooooo we will see !!:confused3

New Years Day is really laid back no special dinner just relaxing in the New Year !!
I will the be 34 days from Disney!!!!:cloud9:

I've never digital scrapbooked but am actually considering designing papers to sell online...we will see! I bet it was sad, I always thought working in a flower shop wold be rather magical, it sounds like a touch Christmas in many ways :grouphug:

and they might surprise you! Some of them surprised me quite a bit though in general, in a good way.

We told the kids about the trip this morning and then passed menu's around the table. Everyone got to vote based on a 5 point scale, 5 being the highest rating. So, based on a 30 point scale...here are the results!

  1. Ohana 29
  2. Sanaa 28.5
  3. Big River Grille 28
  4. Teppan Edo 28
  5. Tutto Italia 27.7
  6. Kouzzina 26.5
  7. Tusker House 26.2
  8. Coral Reef 26.1
  9. Crystal Palace 26
  10. Captains Grille 25.5
  11. Mama Melrose 25.3
  12. Cape May 24.5
  13. Le Cellier 24
  14. Beaches and Cream 23.5
  15. Wave 23
  16. Tokyo Dining 22
  17. Rose and Crown 20.8
  18. Les Chefs 19
  19. Yak and Yeti 17

I'm sending Sandie the top 10, we will see if their votes alters anything. As it stands that would have us eating at

Epcot WS - 2
AK - 1
Boardwalk - 2
AKL - 1
Poly - 1

Which makes 4 of them in walking distance from our resort so I do like that part. Although it may not be the top 7 I'd have chosen (though several of my top picks made the cut) it is a nice variety of foods so that is good too!

Next. Now that the votes are in, what the heck does it do to my binder pages and what DID the kids think when they heard we were going again!

I highly, highly recommend the Captain's Grille. I ate there on my last trip and was pleasantly surprised by excellent food and service. If there's any way you could keep this one, I would totally do it, and our waiter was awesome with our party size (which was big). :goodvibes

I'm really surprised that Sanaa is way up there on the list! That is awesome. :thumbsup2

I'm really anxious to see what you end up going for.

Love your top 10 :thumbsup2

I'm pretty pleased with it overall, it'll be interesting to see how Sandie and Paul weigh in.

I'd like to eat there and am glad it squeaked into the top 10. Not to mention the fact it's at our resort! It could make it in based on Sandie and Paul's preferences but we will see, it is in last place out of the 10 they will be looking at.

It gets a great breakfast review too though so I could see that as an OOP option one day if we feel like it.

I was really (pleasantly!) surprised by both Sanaa and Kouzzina. The funny part is I had Tusker in as an alternative to Sanaa, I didn't expect both to make the cut!

I like your system for voting on the ADR's. Looks like you got two of your top choices - Ohana and Sanna. That's great!:thumbsup2
