Lice, what am I forgetting?

Yeah, reinfestation will probably come from the kid that she sits next to in school.

You dont say how old DD is, but young kids in school tend to sit real close together and they dont have the same need of personal space as us adults. You can fix your own child, but if there is a pool of lice in a class then it is onlt a mater of time before another one makes it across.

Over here, we are expected to inform school if a child comes home carrying unwanted passengers. It is all done anonymously.

There have been many occassions whn when my children of bought home a 'bug watch' letter for us to read and take some investigative steps to be sure.

ABSOLUTELY! She had to have picked this up at school. That is the frustrating thing. No matter what I do to treat it now and to make sure she is okay to be at school--it only takes one parent that isn't being vigilant or sends their child anyway and we have to start all over again. I should probably be putting her hair in braids but I am really awful at styling hair and they look terrible when I try!

I took DD to school yesterday and had the nurse check her. She didn't find anything so let her be in school. I put her hair in a ponytail and told her to not to get her head near anyone else. She said to me "But we are right next to each other at our desks" . We are using the Tea Tree Oil shampoo and conditioner so I am hoping that will make us less desirable to the little buggers.

No sign of anything this morning either. I am checking her morning and night. We will reshampoo this weekend (7 days). I also went to that site you recommended robin and have it open on my computer in case I need it.

My huge concern is that I leave for WDW on Thursday. DH will be here with the girls and have to be the one to shampoo her and check her. He is very capable, but he wasn't here on Sunday so he really doesn't know what he looking for, and I can't even imagine him trying to comb out her hair like I did. My MIL is supposed to come also, but she may decide not to come because of this--and I can't blame her. I need to call her today and let her know so she can make her decision.

My wife went on a 3 day Disney Cruise with her mom and her aunt, so I had to step up to the plate and take care of my daughter's lice problem on my own. And I ended up being the one who had to wash her hair with the prescription shampoo as my wife's medical condition prevents her from coming into contact with the main ingredient in the shampoo. What I am trying to say is that your DH will do just fine.

Put her hair up in a ponytail, use the tree tee oil and spray her hair esp the nape of her neck with hairspray.

Get a Rid metal comb or Licemeister and comb the hair at least three or four times a day. If you're farsighted and wear glasses or contacts - take them out while you're combing.

The mayo treatment was good for us and it was a nice conditioner after using the pesticide. We also did olive oil the day after we did the mayo. Don't forget to retreat with the Red/Nix whatever in 10 days.

Vacuum and do laundry, spray the curtains and mattresses, put away the stuffed animals (and get rid of some! ;) ) but don't get too crazy with the cleaning. They need the head to live.

And for the rest of the school year...hairspray and touch of tea tree oil every morning.

HAIRSPRAY! That is what I keep forgetting. I am going to get a bottle right now and leave it by the door so I can spray her.

Thanks for the reassurance Towncrier. I do know that my DH would do fine--but he would be UNHAPPY! I did offer to cancel my trip but he won't hear of it. He is a total perfectionist so he probably would do a better job than I did anyway!

I think we have the house cleaned up. I need to vacuum her room and the living room again today.

Back in the day my sister had lice and we had to fumagate the whole house to get rid of them.

Dont forget that you can irradicate the bugs on soft toys by boiling the little blighters.

These bugs die quick of dehydration, there is no better way to accelerate this by putting the linnen or soft toys in the dryer and giving them a quick 10 mins on the hot setting.

.......Mwuuhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.........frying tonight!!!!
