Hi

Did they take the characters away for dinner at Liberty Tree in Magic Kingdom?

I heard a rumour they were and was not sure if its in effect now.

Cheers

Sadly, Yes, and it was one of our favorites!
WHAT were they thinking????

Yes the characters are going away some time in January. January 8th if i remember correctly.

That is very sad. I think that the MK is losing something by taking this away. They should replace it with other characters or at least make some type of meal with Mickey. The MK should be the perfect place to dine with the fab 5. If not them then a pirate meal or something.

They are thinking that
1) Some guests want sit-downs in the parks without characters.
2) We prefer a quieter dinner while in the park.
3) We don't want to leave the park for a sit-down meal.
4) Character meals have just gotten to be too many.

IMO, there are enough places you can dine with the characters that were/are at LTT, like chef mickey's and garden grill.

We have reservations at Liberty Tree for one of our days in the Magic Kingdom during our trip at the end of January. I guess that means we will miss the characters. I wonder if we should just skip the dinner there at eat someplace else. The problem is that we have DDP and there are not really many other choices in the Magic Kingdom. We already have reservations at Tony's for one night. My kids are not interested in the Pooh characters at the Crystal Palace. What does that leave us? Should I just keep our Liberty Tree reservations?

Would you consider jumping on the monorail and eating at Chef Mickeys or 1900 Park Faire?

Mickey didn't appear at LTT - Minnie did.

Jan 4 is the last day and I have a 7:45 ADR so I can say goodbye to Minnie, Goofy, Pluto, Chip and Dale. And there are about 8 characterless meals at dinner a monorail ride away and another 2 you can take a boat to. Plus the Plaza and Tony's. Makes me :sad1: .

This is really sad. Disney is making a huge mistake here. :(

Sorry, I don't think so. There are a lot of adult travelers (myself included) who look for non-character meals. In the last several years, they've been harder and harder to find. I first went to LTT in 1982, without characters. I've booked again in January and I wouldn't have if the characters had still been there.

But there are plenty of non-character meals for adults to go to (including LTT lunch). It wouldn't have been that big a deal to leave the dinner alone. I am an adult traveler, and I loved LTT dinner the way it was.

With the parks closing so early during the winter, I don't think we would want to take the monorail to 1900, or anywhere else on one of the nights with fireworks. I agree that there are not very many TS options at the Magic Kingdom.

People seem to forget that even the dinner at the castle is characterless. Yes, you see Cinderella before you go in, but you could also skip that if it were not important to you. The fairy godmother comes in for a few minutes and does a little thing to aknowledge birthdays and special occasions, but it is NOT a character meal where you have characters visiting tables.

So, let's see... if you didn't want characters at dinner, you could eat at Tony's, The Plaza, Cinderella's Royal Table, ... and now LTT. For dinner that leaves only CP for those who want a character meal - and it's not even the classic Disney characters! And no, I don't want to make the trip to Epcot or the Contemporary in the middle of my time at the MK!

I agree that this is a big mistake on Disney's part!

I still have not made up my mind about what to do with ADR at Liberty Tree. It is pricy for dinner and we will be with my mother in law who won't eat any pork or even want it on the table. Maybe I should just try to change to Crystal Palace after all.

We ate at the Liberty Tree Tavern (WDW) and we saw no characters during or meal there. We ate there the 28th. It was a wonderful Christmas turkey dinner...yummy!
I actually enjoy the characters....we did our breakfast with them Christmas day at Tuskar House in AK. It was My husband, son (15yrs old) and myself. Very yummy food.
I do understand some people could do without the characters..... and I also like the sit down meals...maybe they should instead have the restaurant seperated or only certain times for character meetings. That may help those that like one and not the other.

Well, we are sad that the characters are leaving LTT as it was one of our favorite places to eat & did not miss it. This year, I doubt it will make our list. The meal is OK but not that great & without the characters, it will certainly lose some appeal for us. Besides, we can get the Mac n' Cheese anywhere!!

I am very sad about this. I found this resturant perfect I loved the the food and the fact that it had characters too. It was perfect.
