Oh yes, it's the Holiday season again. One more time for the Lexus "December to remember" ads.

:crazy2:

Who else is still waiting for their very own Lexus, complete with Martha Stewart bow, to be delivered to your McMansion (sorry for being so un-PC) this December?

I'd be happy with a car that had less than 100,000 miles on it at this point. A Lexus, I don't think so.

I hate those commercials. I wish there was a TV station for wealthy people only, where they could run those ads without rubbing it in to us "common folk" ;)

Yeah we rich Lexus owners should have our own TV channel. Then we wouldn't have to sit through the McDonald's, WalMart and Hyundai commercials! How common!
They don't even deserve to be displayed on my 60" plasma TV.

If you like the stupid Lexus commercials so much, how about the idiotic Jaguar ones?? Who the H-E-double hockey sticks buys a Jaguar for a present? REmember that dumb one where the wife takes the Polaroid shot of the disappointed hubby and the car is seen in the window?

What I hate about the commericals is that some of the people giving those gifts are in their 20s..how many 20 somethings do you know who have a house like that and can give a lexus?? Maybe some, but not enough to warrent a whole commerical for it.

If they were showing older folk.. you know... the ones who really CAN afford it..it would seem more believable.

DH just commented yesterday to DS9 that his Lexus was on tv -- you know, the one Mom was going to buy him for Christmas......NOT.

First off, I don't think my DH would want a Lexus. Secondly, he is so wishy-washy when it comes to cars, I would never dare to go out and buy one FOR him. DH can't even decide what kind of car he's going to look into getting next time around. Far be it for me to make that decision for him.

Not a bit of reality in that commercial for us.

Where does one get a big-**** ribbon like that anyway? And does anyone know how to make giant bows?

I'm getting Lexi for all my friends and family.

ALL of those "car for Christmas" ads drive me insane! Regardless of the cost, I cannot imagine one spouse purchasing a vehicle for the other with no input whatsoever.

DH thinks a car for Christmas is cool. Here is hoping one year a Lexus shows up under my tree!!!! I have it all picked out too!!!! ;) And I am not older folk, unlike like my friend OT here.

Hey wait...does that mean I am getting one of those Lexi?????? :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

ROFLMAO! And I thought I was the only one that those commercials irritated.

On a lighter note, the Miller Lite People Dominos commercial is a classic! Talk about a cast of thousands.

Do you honestly believe that it is not possible for a 20 something to afford a Lexus???? Maybe being in NY gives me a skewed sense of what things cost , but I see lots of Lexus vehicles around, driven by all age groups. There are plenty of twenty somethings out there who can afford a $30k car and the big houses you see on those and any other commercial. It's all about pushing the American Dream and giving people something to strive for.

Just so all of you sour grape eaters know Lexus is probably the most affordable and has the highest value to dollar ratio of the luxury brands. The whole purpose of marketing is to cater to the entire car driving population not just the old foggies who are sterotyped into being the typical Lexus or any other luxury brand owner. Are the Mercedes and BMW commercials equally offensive to you?

When I first saw this thread I said you know what let it go it's just ignorance, but now, yeah I am offended by it...I drive a Lexus, 3 of them, and yes I have the big house...do I have to apologize for being succesful (not that material things are necesssary to measure the success of a person) but this is the attitude some of these posts convey and that a young successful person shouldn't have luxuries and expensive material things no matter how hard they worked for them.

I came from a blue collar family and my dad worked construction and as a barber to put me and the rest of my siblings though school so we could make a better life for our families. To see how proud he is today of me is how I measure my success. I hate some of the comments that go around this board about the financial status of others. If you don't like your situation fine do something about it but don't poo-poo on others who who are able to affford luxury items that seem to make your stomach turn so much that it would want you to give "us" our own tv channels and advertisements.

At the Mercedes dealership I used to work in, we would make sure the buyer had a great big red bow for the "gift" if they wanted. And we didn't even charge them for it.

We'd even make special arrangements and play Santa, delivering the car to the driveway of the recipient with said bow. ;)

Perhaps it is a NY thing, cause I have the same viewpoint.

While I can sort of understand what you are saying, I do not believe that it was an attack on rich people entirely. I can relate to you. Here in college I get so many side comments from girls on my floor about my material things it is insane. I often get the whole "did daddy buy you that Burberry scarf?". It gets old REAL fast, especially considering that I worked the past few years and buy all my clothes myself.

Some people do work hard for their things. Some people just have expensive taste. Some people DO have money, and just because they have money doesn't mean that they are bad people. :(

When I ate in Emeril's place (err one of them lol) in New Orleans, we walked out after dinner to see a man surprising his wife with a Mercedes for her birthday with a HUGE bow. I thought that was so cool, I didn't realize that they really had those bows. I kind of always thought they were for the commercials, lol.

My DH gave me a car for my birthday a few years ago. He had my mom make a HUGE yellow bow to tie on the windshield... it was a complete (and welcome) surprise.

It wasn't a Lexus, but it could happen... ;)

I got a Lexus last year but no bow :(

Well I am definately NOT a sour grapes person. Not once did I say that the young should not afford those things or deserve them.. I did say that in todays day and age MOST MOST MOST 20 somethings certainly cannot afford those things. Most people just think the commercials are unrealistic. (I believe that was the gist of my post that ToyStory Fan quoted).

(Sorry I edited my original post.. I did not like the way I worded what I said! I think I have "going on vacation brain" because I cannot think very well tonight)

For those of you that were offended by my post about "rich" Lexus owners... try lightening up! The little winky guy at the end of my post indicated that it was a joke. A couple of my best friends are Lexus owners, another owns a Mercedes, and I drive an Acura Legend. None of us are rich. I'm sorry if you had a bad day, or are tired of people bashing you because of your car choice. For those of you not familiar with the concept, this means that the post is a joke, or not entirely serious -> ;)

It's not just people from NY that have burberry scarves and think $30k isn't a lot of money to spend for a car when you're under 30.
I'm from New England and have 4 burberry scarves (one my mommy bought me) :D

With financing rates so low, you can get a great deal on a lexus and they are great cars- my Uncle's has over 200k miles on it and runs like a champ and he's far from wealthy. It's definitely worth financing a car that costs more but has a great reputation than a $15,000 piece of junk that is going to cost a fortune in repair bills.

As far as getting one for gifts- my cousin got one last year for Christmas. It had a huge purple bow on it :)

Most people just think the comercials are unrealistic.

Exactly!

I don't know anyone who has ever received such a gift and believe me I do know people who could afford it. When it does happen it must be quite a surprize. It would be interesting to know how successful that ad campaign actually is (in terms of gifting).

As for the cars themselves, they do have a great reputation. I can afford a Lexus but I'm shopping for the stripped down Toyota versions now .... unless "Santa" wants to leave me a big gift. ;)
