I saw the post for Louisville and that prompted me to post about Lexington!

I'm headed there on Monday for a business trip. The ideas for Louisville look great but I think that's a little far and I don't get much free time on these business trips.

I'm looking for places to eat and some activities that would be good for the evenings. I'm also wondering if there is anywhere near Lexington to purchase Maker's Mark at a discount. I know the distillery is about an hour away but that's going to be too far and I know they're not open in the evenings.

Thanks for any help/advice that you can share!

my brother and dsil live in lexington so i visit very often there... there is a great dueling piano bar called penguin in downtown lex.. a great place to eat is Saul Good (you have to save room for dessert they have a chocolate fondue thats to die for) theres really from what ive seen no place to buy discount liquor but ive never activily searched for any while ive been there

have fun its a really pretty place!

Hey I grew up in Lexington. There are some great places to eat like Malone's,Drake's, and Harry's (Love all of them equally). They are all in the same strip on Tates Creek Rd In Lexington. If you can find Malone's you've found them all.

here are their links in case you need directions from wherever you are staying

One other resturant I HIGHLY recommend is Desha's it's on the Corner of Main St and Broadway. The coconut chicken tenders (and shrimp) and awesome. It's right across from Rupp Arena so you can't miss it.

As far as discount Marker's Mark...there's really no place to get it really cheap. It's all about the same price no matter where you buy it.

We have a minor league baseball team, the Lexington Legends, and the games are cheap and pretty fun to go to.

The Arboretum at UK is close to downtown and is pretty neat, awesome walking track.

Comedy off Broadway is a fun place to go too.

here's a link to the newspaper entertainment section so you can check out what's going on when you are here

Also, ask in the hotels what's going on at the front desk. Most of the ones downtown Hotels keep a list.

Lexington is a neat place too. I would suggest the Liquor Barn for the Makers Mark. There are several locations on the south side of Lexington. There are many restaurants throughout the area, it really depends on where you are staying to keep you close to some suggestions. The only hotel area with sparse restaurants would be Newtown Pike and I75, I'm not sure why there are so few places to eat there considering the hotels and traffic.

DeSha's ... YUM. I grew up in the same town as the original restaurant. I've had the coconut chicken recipe for years. I need to make some, soon! :)

did anyone mention the Kentucky Horse Park?

THANK YOU!

These all look GREAT! I will look up the addresses and see what looks the most convenient. We are staying at the Hilton Lexington Green and conducting the training on Limestone St.

Thanks again for all of the help!

Lexington Green has an amazing bookstore - Joseph Beth Books, so if you like to read, check it out.

You will be right across from Fayette Mall. I suggest eating at PF Changs if you like chinese food. There are several restaurants around the mall - Olive Garden, Abuelos (mexican), Johnny Carino's, Outback Steak - lots to choose from.

I <3 Joseph Beth Books! Theres a great chinese food buffet i think its just called #1 Buffet (at least thats what my niece calls it so i truely have no idea whats its really called)

#1 China Buffet is across the street.
There are tons of restaurants to choose from in that area. You will find both local spots and chains.
Nicholasville Rd turns into Limestone, but Limestone is closed just north of the UK campus, so be prepared for a detour if heading downtown.

#1 China Buffet doesn't look like much from the outside...but OH MY...it earns it's name on the inside! They have a sushi bar, mongolian grill and a huge regular buffet filled with delicious foods.

Joseph Beth is a wonderful place to spend a few hours relaxing (if you like books).

Enjoy your stay!

when i was down visiting them at the end of june we went to #1 China Buffet after my nieces tball game and I was warned before hand that the owners and staff take my nephew and carry him around that apparently go there several times a month if not a week that they know my niece and nephew by name (they are 1 and 5) they actually were approached by the owner at the mall a few months back and asked why they hadnt been in in a while...

the food was wonderful and a huge selection to choose from i can see y they go there often

i am mostly going to be moving down there in a few years its killing me to be so far away from my neice and nephew and only being able to see them a couple of times a year

I really like Dudley's restaurant, which is located in downtown Lexington. The food is terrific and it is a great place for lunch or brunch. I have not eaten dinner there, so I cannot comment on that.

Joseph Beth has a nice little cafe in it, too. Good food and a quiet atmosphere. I definitely wouldn't miss Joseph Beth, whether you decide to eat there, or not. They also have nice little "Kentucky items" - different candies, Maker's Mark sauces, etc., you can pick up as a souvenir. http://www.josephbeth.com/bronte/Home.html

Another restaurant we like is Winchell's. Their reuben is delicious. It's on Southland Drive (towards town from Lexington Green). It's a bar, if you're wanting something really casual, but yummy. http://winchellsrestaurant.com/

Dudley's is also a nice restaurant to try. It's where DH and I went on our first date. http://www.dudleysrestaurant.com/

Oh, also, there a really neat store in Lexington Green called Artique where local artisans sell their creations. They have some really beautiful, unique stuff. It's in the same shopping center as Joseph Beth. http://www.artiquegallery.com/index.html

I don't think there's anywhere you can buy Maker's Mark at a discount, but Shopper's Village Liquors probably would have the best prices.

If you're into historical homes, Waveland is not far from Lexington Green.

Another Lexintonian here and I will agree that Joseph Beth should NOT be missed! The Cafe is great, too :cool1:
