Lexapro? What do you know?

I have no problems with it. Switched from Celexa to a lower dose of Lexapro.

Yes, the black boxes are scary for teens. But if a teen is depressed enough to be prescribed an SSRI, then the possibilities of that are scary in itself. Take the meds and make sure the child knows if they start feeling different in a bad or frightening way, that it is the medicine, not them. And that things really will get better, and to tell their mom or doctor if things are worse, or even not improving. Just tell them to be aware and talk to the people who care.

Do bear in mind that if the Lexapro doesn't work, there are zillions of alternatives, many of which act in different ways. The odds are very much in your favour that something will work - it's just a matter of elimination. I can point you towards a fairly extensive archive of mine outlining stuff on every drug you can pretty much find via PM, but won't post it here on this thread publicly out of respect to the webmasters.

As someone else said, if it doesn't work, there are other options out there. Lexapro did *not* work for me - I wasn't anxious, but it gave me horrible insomnia. I was able to switch to effexor which has been the best anti-depressant/anti-anxiety medicine yet *for me*.

Lexapro made me sick to my stomach- vomiting and diarrhea. These did not go away after a few months, so I stopped taking it. I went to an internist and it turned out that my thyroid was WAYYYY out of whack. Once I started taking Armour thyroid, I felt 1000000% better.

i was on it for a couple of years in '02/'03.

it kicked in pretty fast. once it kicked in, i didn't give a rat's hiney about the things that were stressing me up. it was awesome. i totally agree with a PP that it should be in the water supply!

i do remember for about the 1st month i had a queasy tummy. i lost a bit of weight with it.

and the only side effect i had...which ended up sending me to a neuro to figure it out...i had dialated pupils. it was the last thing in the drug side effects (at that time). once that was figured out, i was fine!
