So, DH & I are thinking of getting a scanner/printer/copier thingy (technical term)! I'm mostly looking at it to scan in scrap supplies/"stuff" so that I can make those cool DVDs with the pictures/scrap pages (lots of techy terms here).

So, tell me about your scanner and why you love it or don't . . .

I can't help you with a combination scanner/printer/copier since I've always had a stand-alone scanner, but I'll tell you about mine.

I have the Epson Perfection V500 Photo. I used to have a cheap off the shelf one from Best Buy (Microtek, I think) and it served me well for many years, but a few years back I wanted to get one that could scan negatives, so I upgraded. I've always had Epson printers, so I figured I'd stick with them for scanners too. I've been very happy - great quality, easy to use.

I am thinking of purchasing the epson 4490 or the v500. My thought or project is to scan all the old photos of the kids and upload them to shutterfly and make them albums, which scanner would be the better for this project.

We have a Cannon MX860. I love the way it scans, printing sometimes depends- if the photo quality is really sharp then it is fine but I don't like the way it prints if it is not as sharp. Also I always have to check on the quality the printer is set for as it seems to lower automatically.

I have an Epson Stylus NX300. It works well, but it's big - and like all of them - eats ink like crazy. You can set the print quality you want - from draft right up through best photo.
