Let's Talk Remodeling

:cool1: So how did that go? Good I hope!:goodvibes

Well, I got about 50 blank emails from her overnight, so I'm not really sure! It was like her computer had a massive hiccup!

I won't get my estimate until tomorrow probably. I don't too much will have changed from the original estimate, other than we want them to do the demo and built the tub frame now.

And surprise, surprise! The two granites that I picked, are both level I! Santa Cecelia and New Ventian Gold are both less expensive! I've done it twice now!

Wait you've picked out the less expensive granite??? Your DH doesn't know how lucky he is!:goodvibes Hope the estimate doesn't change much!:goodvibes

I'm back from WDW and I had a FANTASTIC time!

Now for the scarey stuff. I just got a call from my contractor and they're coming tomorrow to start the demolishion of my kitchen, my dining room and the front wall of my house. :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

Here's the post that explains the front wall of the house problem with pictures.

I'm worried about what they're going to find once the wall is down. But hey I'll have to deal with it one way or another. :sad2:

Welcome back. Surely there was a piece of tile or lighting that you can tell us about. ;) We could all use a Disney break by reading a trip report.

Good luck with the wall tear-down. I know what you mean, sometimes you uncover a can of worms.

Good job on picking out lesser expensive granite. That must be a relief of sorts.

On your tub, what kind of tub do you have now? Based on what I remember of your pictures, I think we have the same kind. Isn't it more of a fiberglass/marble surround skin, than a drop in tub with it's own edge?

Now let me get this straight........you actually picked out the less expensive granite. Really and truly??????!!!!!!! Thats great!! I would say that deserves a

Bill: glad you had a great time at WDW. We leave Friday for a day at WDW, then the 7 night DCL cruise, then back for another night at WDW.

Good luck on the demolition. Here are a couple of smilies you might need while they are doing the work.

Love it!!! :cool1: I really like the color of the silestone & the cabinet hardware! It looks great!:thumbsup2

Thanks. I love the way it looks too. :cool1:

It is the functionality that is getting to me right now. My FIL came back and went right work on the sink. The old disposal is missing a part and they spend all day messing with it. :headache:

I am so feed up, beyond feed up. I told him I don't care what you do, just make it happen. Let's get a new disposal. I counted today is day 80 with no sink and I am DONE! I can wait one day more, but that is it. I am about to cry right now. I just don't feel I have any more patience for this project. :guilty:

Not just once, but three times! Uba Tuba for my kitchen and both selections that I liked the most for the bathroom.

I wonder if they're serving ice water in Hell right now? :rolleyes1

It's a drop-in, but it's square. Both the outside rim, and the inside of it. The one I have now doesn't look like a drop-in, because it has its own built-in decking.

The new one will be oval and will be sitting in granite, so it'll have granite decking all the way around it. It'll look sort of like this but without the missing panel. I don't know what's up with that, but I sure love this tub!

I have to decide - and really soon - if I want to order the panels that go with the cabinets for the tub apron, or if I want to do mosaic on it. I wanted mosaic, but the more I see the panels, the more I like them. :confused3

Well... I also picked the next car I want, so I think I ruined the good vibes of the inexpensive granite. :rotfl:

Let's just say that I didn't do the same thing at the car dealership.

What a fun thread! I've only read a few posts, I'm too tired. I have to spend some time reading it. :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

We are in the process of choosing the bathtub and tile for the kids' bathroom. Once demolition starts, I'll post pics. There are too many choices, it's totally overwhelming. :scared1:

Hang in there - you're almost there. 80 days is a long time to be totally out of sync in the house - especially the kitchen area. You can't just close a door and walk out of the project area (like you can with a basement, bedroom, etc.). It WILL get done. :flower3:

Thats a very pretty picture. I like how the tub is angled out and the granite is pretty too. I wonder what color it is?

You find great sample pictures. :thumbsup2

Our current tub also has its own decking. Its white and seamless and made of some sort of Mystery Material. When we remodel, nothing will be able to be saved, it will all have to go since its all one piece. I have to wonder what kind of tub structure is under this stuff i.e. will something new have to be built to support a normal tub. :confused3

Tough choice on going with the raised panels or the mosaic. Definitely a win-win no matter what you choose. For resale purposes, I would imagine that either one would fly.

Bill, welcome back & good luck with the beginnings of your project.

AMITY, I vote panels.

One thing to keep in mind with jet tubs is you need to have access to it from underneath. Now I am guess most of you already knew this and I am just stating the obvious. Ours is rather simple, but it fits the feel of the bathroom. It is white title with bead board. There are 2 cuts in the bead board to make access panels, but we can also use them to for storage too. It works out, but it is very casual. The whole feel of the bathroom is. I will post pictures if I can get to it. I need to get to the gym this morning.

I just got a call from FIL. He is picking up a new disposal and coming over this afternoon to fix it. I am praying this will be over by today. I know we still have a lot of little work left to be done. I just need this kitchen functional again. I know the rest will come together in time.

Thanks for the well wishes and the smilies!

I'm at work right now and they've got control of my house.

We talked about everything that was supposed to be done today, they're going to demo the kitchen and dining room and also install all of the new windows. As I left them this morning they were tearing down my kitchen!!!
