Let's Talk Remodeling

One thing to keep in mind with jet tubs is you need to have access to it from underneath. Now I am guess most of you already knew this and I am just stating the obvious. Ours is rather simple, but it fits the feel of the bathroom. It is white title with bead board. There are 2 cuts in the bead board to make access panels, but we can also use them to for storage too. It works out, but it is very casual. The whole feel of the bathroom is. I will post pictures if I can get to it. I need to get to the gym this morning.

I have a jetted tub now, and won't be getting one this time. I never use the jets; I can't stand the water popping up and getting in my face.

I love the bead board look too. It's one of the other things I'm contemplating. I just don't want too many different finishes going on, YKWIM?

I just got a call from FIL. He is picking up a new disposal and coming over this afternoon to fix it. I am praying this will be over by today. I know we still have a lot of little work left to be done. I just need this kitchen functional again. I know the rest will come together in time.

It'll get there. Just hang on! :grouphug:

Thats a very pretty picture. I like how the tub is angled out and the granite is pretty too. I wonder what color it is?

I'm not sure, but I agree, it's very pretty!

You find great sample pictures. :thumbsup2

Unfortunately, what I find is usually out of my price range!

Our current tub also has its own decking. Its white and seamless and made of some sort of Mystery Material. When we remodel, nothing will be able to be saved, it will all have to go since its all one piece. I have to wonder what kind of tub structure is under this stuff i.e. will something new have to be built to support a normal tub. :confused3

Ours sits on a blob of concrete that someone slapped on top of our foundation. With you having a basement, I can only imagine what would have to go underneath a tub to support its weight when it's full of water! :scared:

Tough choice on going with the raised panels or the mosaic. Definitely a win-win no matter what you choose. For resale purposes, I would imagine that either one would fly.

I know what will probably help in making my decision! $$$$$$

What a fun thread! I've only read a few posts, I'm too tired. I have to spend some time reading it. :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

We are in the process of choosing the bathtub and tile for the kids' bathroom. Once demolition starts, I'll post pics. There are too many choices, it's totally overwhelming. :scared1:

I have got to remember to takes lots of pictures of my master bath before they start to demo it. I didn't when we remodeled the hall bathroom and I could kick myself now. :headache:

I LOVE spending other people's money! I'll do it!

That's what I'm here for! :rotfl:

Just noticed that we have a tropical depression just south of TX, expected landfall south of Houston! Not expected to gain much strength but will be dumping lots of rain on you & us here in LA!!! Hope neither one of us gets hit to badly with this!!! :wizard:

I know, and I have to show houses at 4:30. I hope the rain holds off until I'm done. I HATE showing houses in the rain. :headache:

My big remodel is starting to come together for our 1903 home. For the kitchen I have settled on cream shaker cabinets and a black beadboard island (possibly distressed to some extent). We will have high ceilings, and I don't want dead space above my cabinets, so we likely will go with transom cabinets to top off the uppers, topped with crown. The tile backsplash will be simple cream subway tile. The sink will be a farmhouse style, possibly hammered copper or soapstone. I am thinking about soapstone counters, and am wondering if any of you have experience with soapstone, either used for counters and/or a sink? If so, what do you think of it? How about maintenance, and how often do you oil it? I have heard that shiny stone counters are on their way out (at least crazy Jeff on "Flipping Out" seems to think so), and think that soapstone might fit better with the era of our home than a granite or quartz. I don't personally know a sole who has soapstone though.

My friend bought a house about that age recently. The house was in middle of a "flip" but the owners ran out of $. So they bought a unlivable house and have to bring it up to code before they can live in it. It is almost ready. They went very much the same way as you did, with the shaker cabinets and subway title black splash. They also have an old fashioned sink and stove. They did get a black granite for the counter tops though. There was so little counter tops it wasn't that high priced.

So here is our good news!

I have a working Kitchen sink!

:dance3: :cool1:  :cloud9: :yay: :grouphug: :cheer2: :cool1:

DH has to do one thing and the dishwasher should be running too.

This means while our whole remodel still has a ways to go to being "done" we have a functional kitchen again and that is really all I need for now. Molding and other odds and ends will be going on for a while. New blinds for the windows, molding around the windows, some paint, a 2 new doors and all the wood on the stairs to the basement and landing still needs to be done, not to mention a black splash we haven't even picked out the titles for yet.

I love it all, thanks for the support and encouragement everyone!

Yea, I think they're supposed to come back tomorrow. But I'm not positive. :rotfl2:

It was scary this morning when I saw them starting to carry stuff out.

Bill, its so spacious!!!! ;)
Good luck. :grouphug:

You know I was thinking how it looked much more open now and maybe I should not put in too many cabinets. :rotfl:

One good thing that's happened so far is there doesn't seem to be additional water damage. So they just have to restud the dining room wall and not the kitchen one too.

It's so neat to document everything with photos these days. I had an online album when we were going thru our remodel. I love before, during, and after pics!
Can't wait to see your finished kitchen!!!

I don't know anything about soapstone counters, but I do have to say how much I love, love, love transom cabinets. I know they're costly, but if you put a glass door on them with lighting, wow...what a statement. Even if you put a regular door on them, still...quite the look! It dresses everything up.

What I've also seen that I like with a farmhouse looking kitchen are those old-fashioned door latches instead of knobs (if you know what I mean).

Your idea of cream cabinets with a black (distressed) island is right on the money. :thumbsup2 Simply beautiful!

Bill, That is great news!!! Hope your good luck continues! :wizard:

Crazy Jeff also said that travertine was "so 80's".

Soapstone counters aren't a big thing here, and I've actually never gotten the opportunity to see them in person. I know a lot of people were putting them in, when I was remodeling my kitchen, on here: http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/kitchbath/

Your selections sound like they're going to be absolutely beautiful! I agree that soapstone would be a better choice for you too. I have granite, but I also have stainless appliances, so I think it's a good match for us.

You might also want to consider honed granite; it'll be less expensive than soapstone. I think it's gorgeous! :)

Woohoo! A kitchen is a HUGE room to be without for any period of time. I remember how miserable it was. The only thing that could rival that, would be a bathroom, but at least in most cases, you have another one to use. Not so with a kitchen!

Remind me of this when I'm complaining about not having a master bathroom in a few months, 'kay?
