Let's Talk Remodeling

Lowe's had some ceramic tiles in the store here that look a lot like travertine! Wait, I picked up some samples, it's called Rialto, the colors I grabbed were White, Noce & Salmon. I'm gonna show them to my contractor & see what he thinks.

Last house we lived in we did the floor, shower and whirlpool tub area in Rialto White. The floor we did in various sizes for that cobblestone effect. Very much like the tile pattern Galahad has done with his solarium floor. I believe the flooring tiles were Rialto Beige and Rialto White. It turned out beautiful.

Thats right...this was the Original Towel Bar Bathroom! :rotfl2:

The time without a kitchen will seem interminable, but it will be worth it!! Good Luck!!! Did they take out dry wall?

No. Well they cut a small piece so they could fix the water line to the refrigerator. But we aren't making any structural changes. He said he should be done with the cabinets Thursday at the latest. I really think he'll be done with them by tomorrow if not today. Then we have the WAIT for the countertops. Also at some point they will be replacing our light fixture. I guess the backsplash will be done when the counters are put in? :confused3

I get to go shopping for a new fridge and dishwasher to match my other stainless appliances.

Yes, the backsplash is after the counters and the painting of the walls (if there is any).

We had one appliance that wasn't stainless, and rather than get a new one, we got some stainless sheeting that adhered to the top of it. Saved a ton on that and it looks like it came that way.

We are painting the walls. We want a new refrigerator as we were poor newlyweds when we bought our current one (no amount of sheeting is going to make that thing look decent), and I am tired of how loud our dishwasher is. MIL is paying for the refrigerator so it's only the dishwasher that is coming out of our pockets.

I really should look into those curtains too. Thank goodness my bedroom window cannot be seen from the street, because I have cardboard on the inside of the window to block out the light! :lmao:

I'll have to check that out. That's the name of my tumbled marble in my kitchen backsplash, which I purchased from Lowe's.

If I have time tonight, I'll take a pic of the tiles & post it for you.

I would love to see it! I saw a picture of a bathroom on the MLS today (Wish I could post it, but we're not allowed to) that I loved! I printed it out and plan to stick it on my DH's pillow tonight. :rolleyes1

It's just the tiles now, nothing has been started here yet. MLS?? what site is that? I want to go look!

Why can't we post pictures??

I'm sorry! I didn't mean to cause confusion!

I was referring to the Multiple Listing Service (I'm a realtor) and I can't post photos of the interior of other people's homes on other websites. :)

If I can remember what subdivision I found it in, I'll post the MLS number. I loved the tile work! It had accent tiles that varied in shades of dark green. I've never seen that done before and it looked really good!

Here's the pics of the ceramic tiles from Lowe's that look like travertine. I don't remember the prices but they were much less expensive than the real thing.

I love those - especially the ones to the left. I'm going to Lowe's later this evening to get carpet prices, so I'll have to grab a few.

I'm sort of freaking out (good & bad) right now. Contractor called to come look at the things we want done in the kitchen, he is coming today! We have not made definite decisions on what we want done, exactly. Our kitchen was redone about 5/6 years ago, the fridge we purchased after the kitchen was done does not fit properly. It is a counter depth fridge but the fit is so tight that when pushed back the freezer door does not open all the way. So a wall or cabinet will have to be moved. I have Corian countertops & backsplashes, but when the back splash was delivered it was the 1/4 inch that I had ordered but half inch. Then they put another shorter back splash in front of it, without clearing it with me first. Well it looked fine & I thought it would be okay & really wanted that kitchen finished at the time. The depth of the backsplash put's it right behind the faucet, so it's constantly wet & the caulking continues to discolor no matter what I do. So I'm going to change the back splash with tile. We also didn't take out the boxing on top of the cabinets & will probably do that now. I also still have that horrid old flourescent light that is set in the ceiling, that has to go. If I can get the kitchen clean enough to take pics today, I'll post them. Sorry for babbling, I'm nervous.

The cabinets are all in! :cool1: Today he is working on placing the cabinet faces on the island and the crowning above the cabinets. I have a call in for the person to come out and make the countertop template!
