Let's Talk Remodeling

Looks great Galahad!

I cant wait to se ethe finished project ( and Im sure you cant either :) )

I am going to get the sealant for the cabinets tomorrow. I have put it off as long as I can and decided that this is the look I am going to stick with for a while so I need to get on with it.

Also have a new bakers rack in the dinette area and that looks nice.

I was surprised just how hard making some seemingly little decisions is when doing a big project.

Sorry, I'm dumb, so I'll ask. What is a "bakers rack" that you would put in a dinette area. We have some that you put on the counter when cooling things but from your sentence it sounds like a piece of furniture. Is it? :)

A bakers rack is basically a metal shelf used to hold items... they used to be used to hold the cakes and stuff while they cool but know they are used more for decoration and it hold nicknacks

well here is an undate on my disaster.... I mean house!

The kiitchen living room is done and has been primed and the celling has been painting. The walls will get done one night this week because my painter ( hubby's uncle is in PA because he's daughter just had twins a few weeks ago and he brought great grandma to visit...

The front addition should be ready to paint by Thurs and the the appliances are going to get delivered on Friday

The new septic tanks are in and have power but they cant put the new fields in this week because it poured here and the yard it all mud!

The old drywaller that screwed us, was supposed to drop a check off Sat but of course he flaked and has canceled his cell phone number so we have no way to contact him, so we are waiting for a friend to get us a new number and then we are going to sue his

wow Tigger!!

I am glad there is finally some end in sight for you. That was horrible!

Here is the bakers rack

It was a gift from the lady that we bought our houses from. Yes plural. We bought this house last year and they moved behind us temporarily where they had a business, then they moved to their permanent home and now my mum is buying their business house. Isnt that the greatest? She will be living right behind us and there is already a gate between the 2 properties! My kids are in 7th heaven!
Anyway, the lady is really nice and left me a bunch of furntiure and is doing the same with my mum.

Galahad, That is looking so great! It's going to be so nice when it's all done. :thumbsup2

Binny, That is pretty. That is great that your Mom is going to right there! Lucky kids!

Tiggger1, Sorry you are having so many problems. I feel your pain! We were totally screwed by a cement contractor about 2 years ago. We were having a stamped circular driveway put in. He came out dug up the front yard, disappeared for a month & a half. Then he poured it & stamped it. The next day I find it covered with plastic. He disappears again. We uncover it & it's all crumbling! Looked like dry desert! He disappeared after that. Even moved out of his home. We were out about $2700! & had to then pay another contractor to not only do it again but extra to tear up the crap job! So hopefully you can track this guy down & recoup the loss.

OK, now I'm actually getting excited about this. Here's a couple of great pics. The first is of those floating lights, without them turned on so you can see the color dots. They are different colors depending upon which angle you're looking at them from. You can stand in the right place and each are different color:

The hot tub is done with the addition of the blue tile on the side:

Not to be out done, two of our Bichons are getting anxious for the whole thing to be done :)

Galahad, those lights are awesome. I never saw such a thing; where did you find them?

The tile work around the hot tub is pretty. Nice job on the colors. :thumbsup2

Are you seeing the light at the end of the tunnel?

Yes. Definitely a light at the end of the tunnel.

I'm not sure which site DW bought the lamps from. She got great deals on most things for the project. But here is what they are (follow this link).

Galahad - I have to say - I really like the bold colors and design you have in your house. Would you care to share pictures of any other areas?? I really love color - but I am a little timid because I am afraid I am going to pick the wrong shade etc.

Sad to say on our end - we're in limbo - The stupid building guy has been out for a month and they have nobody to back him up (SMALL town) so I still don't have a permit to rip my wall down to a half wall. DH took the cabinets out and the gas line was moved for my stove - but I'd really like to get my end cabient in, get my old granite piece cut to fit that and get moving on getting the wall down and figuring out what we're going to do for flooring. UG! I can show you my stove though. Isn't she beautiful??? You can see my old butt ugly white stove in the dining room on one of the pictures :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Wow, that must be VERY frustrating. Our project is going on 7 months. I know many have had it much worse, but it's been long and tedious at times. Good Luck!!!

I'll be happy to take some other pics around the house. It should be cleaned up in a week or two I suppose. We have our entire house furnished in a style called mid-century modern (1940's) with most furniture by a maker called Haywood-Wakefield. It goes well with the bold colors and "modern" rounded lines.

We got the call. Our kitchen destruction begins Monday. :scared1: I need to find boxes to store all my crap...errr kitchen items. UGH. I'm scared, hold me. ;)

Galahad, looking great! Love the colors and lights.

Galahad, I love those lights :thumbsup2

My projects are on indefinite hold. They yanked DH's overtime completely and we're going to have to make some cutbacks just to be able to pay our bills.
Any spare money is going to repairing the garage roof :(

Wow. That's a drag for you and DH. Hope that turns around soon!!!!

More lights went up today:

Galahad, it sure is looking fabulous! You're color choices are wow! Without a designer telling me to make such bold choices I would have been way too chicken. But it sooo works! Please tell your DW we are very impressed!!!:thumbsup2

Doing the limbo rock over here too! Contractors are just too busy (literally) to find the time in their schedules! Once you start cooking on the ss cooktop, I'd love to know how well it cleans up. I'm going to change my cooktop soon, but I'm really into cooking, so heat output is a big deal to me as well as easy cleanup. If anyone else has suggestions I'm all ears.

I know very soon I will be in your situation! Have I done anything to prepare for that day? UUhhh well no!

Hey! I just found this thread today! Here are my lists:

Things Completed:
Painted all the rooms in the house
New shower/tub install
New Bathroom and utility sink
Removed carpet in the smallest bedroom, and turned it into a walk-in closet
Reduced the hedges from about 7feet to 3 feet
New countertops, sink, wall and base cabinet in kitchen
Replaced a few storm doors, a one entry
Removed carpet in basement and painted the floor
Replaced washer, dryer and fridge
Refinished steps to bedrooms and basement steps

Things to Do:
Replace a few more doors
Repaint front porch
Build new back deck
Replace tile in kitchen
Replace porch awning
Go Back to Disney World!

Yesterday I went to Home Depot to order a new front entry door. I was told that my door was too tall - that doors on more recently built houses are shorter. They would have to make the door frame shorter to fit the size of the doors that are made now - which would cost about $250 on top of the $360+ for labor, and this all before the actual cost of the door, fittings, lock, knob etc . . . And the top of the frame inside the living room would be unfinished, because the installers will not do any finishing work. So then I would have to do the finishing myself, or hire someone else to do it :headache:

I decided to pass on the door, and insted just get new insulation around it. Also, since I now had "extra" money, I got a new entry door for the kitchen. The top half of it has decorative, frosted glass.

Even though I am a bit disappointed about the front entry door, at least I'm getting a new "fancy" kitchen door!:goodvibes

I'm glad I found this thread today! Now I have to go back see everything I've missed!

We very much need a new front door and started looking into it. Didn't realize the door frame issue. I need to look into that. But I agree. I was amazed at just how much a new front door is going to cost. But ours is the original wooden door and it's seen much better days. Kinda doesn't go with the rest of our new stuff..... ;)

Well - I can tell you that stove I have posted is AMAZING! Heat output is unbelievable. I have (2) 22,000 btu burners, (3) 15,000 btu burners and (1) simmer burner. My old stove I only have ONE burner I could boil water on and that was a 12,500 btu burner - lol! It takes a lot of getting used to. Plus- on this stove the flame from the burner come straight up - on most other stoves the flame comes from the side and then up - usually around a round plate. My MIL has a Viking range - she LOVES mine better because she just cannot get the heat I can get.

The stove is a Blue Star with open burners - so everything falls under into a tray - you just have to do basic wiping off up top.

I haven't done a darn thing to prepare. And so far all I have been able to scrounge up is one box. :scared1: I thought I had more time, they told us they wouldn't be starting until closer to the end of the month. :sad2: I should be happy it's starting earlier but I am not prepared. I figure though it's a good time to clear out the stuff we haven't really been using. And that makes DH very happy. :thumbsup2 He is always so neat and organized.

Galahad, I am really like your choices for light fixtures. Very different.

Wow. That stove is a beauty. I am so envious.  :)

I have a four burner electric cook top. I miss having a gas cooktop. I can't cook anything right on this thing.

If we ever get this kitchen remodel off the ground, I'm changing to gas. Luckily its already plumbed for it.
