Let's Talk Remodeling

It must be cabinet day, Ours are in also except for a 3 that have to wait for the countertop. Luckly we order the countertop and our cabinet guy will cut it here and get it done in 1 day.. and depending what we decide on itll only take a few days to order

We just had our countertop template made.. and the turn over is 2 weeks. :scared1:

Our corian took about 3 weeks.

Take deeeeeeeep breaths!

Breathing!

our flooring dept (i work at lowes now) had an entire pallet of those travertine tiles in the r oman salmon go into the compactor yesterday. someone dropped hte pallet.

You know cabinets are my favorite things to build.

btw working at lowes seriously has limited my dis time lately. but i am still around.

A whole pallet! What a shame, I sure could have found a use for that!

Froggy, you know you can still head on down to Louisiana & build anything you want to. We can use any reputable craftsmen down here!:goodvibes

shovan, i triED COMING TO N'ORLEANS after the hurricain, but at htat point i was pretty much told by state farm and a couple other ins companies that after hte prevailing wage requirement was dropped by the powers that be, they actually couldnt pay me what i would have had to make. and honestly still the prices there are not up to national levels, and until contractors can make there what they would other locations, they wont be coming down. its sad and really not right, but when i can bill 60 bucks an hour else w here and 16 there? no way.

I guess 2 weeks isn't bad, then. I do hate the wait, though! Here are our cabinets.

That's really not bad. We were warned tha worst case scenario for ours is 4 to 6 weeks, but it shouldn't be that. I hope! :scared1:

Froggy, I'll be posting pics after we finish this phase and wait for the next phase!

Oh, great taste! That's my granite!

ETA: Start keeping a running count of how many times you set something on "your countertops". I spilled more things while waiting for our counters to come in! By habit, you set things there without even realizing it! My favorite was my morning coffee.

We're looking at Thomasville Camden door style as well for our bathroom. What stain color is your maple cabinets? Love the Uba Tuba! Its looks beautiful.

Another question (or two!): Did you upgrade to get the full plywood construction sides or did you do the standard furniture board sides? If you didn't upgrade, was there any issues with the installation? We did Thomasville's sister line, Diamond for our kitchette. The sides of the cabinets were thin compared to Kraftmaid. It didn't give us any trouble in installation, but I was wondering how the Thomasville line performed.

Well from the prices we've been given on our bathroom job somebody sure is making some money! We were quoted as high as $45,000 for the bathroom remodel. Major work was breaking the slab & plumbing to put in a roll in shower, but the price was for stock cheap cabinets, cultured marble & inexpensive tile!

Very pretty! I know the waiting is hard when you are so close.

And it all starts with a towel bar, right?!

The contractor came by & I'm sure this is going to cost a lot of money!

I guess the experts here realized this, but to take the furdown (sp) out from above the cabinets the cabinets have to come down. :scared1: Also to fit the freaking fridge he recommends (as have several other contractors) to move the large pantry cabinet & several lower cabinets with a large bar on top over. Just to get a couple of inches around the fridge! Right now I really hate the cabinet people who installed all of this ust a few years back!

So we are looking a two big jobs in the next couple of months. I think I'm going to be sick!

Anyway, I know I'm ranting again. Sorry!

He said he'd be in touch with prices tomorrow. And I'll start picture taking tonight.

I've already come close a couple times.. and both with my morning coffee! :coffee:

The stain is coffee and I really like how it is an uneven stain. It shows a bit darker in the corners. We were offered a choice of two upgrades for the paneling sides and picked the middle one. It seems to be sturdy enough. There weren't any issues during installation.

But, but, but... remember when you couldn't even get a contractor to show up? ;)

Thanks for reminding me! :lmao: I really do like this guy, so far! Let you know when we get the prices.

But of course, DH & I are already fussing about it all! I figured if this is going to be major, I want to get it right this time! So I wanted to consider the possibility of getting a range over just a cooktop. Which of course would mean moving more cabinets, but we are practically starting over anyway. Well DH hit the ceiling! I really need to finish my pics & post them to find out what you guys think. My Sis-IL & DD are both of the opinion, that we shouldn't even go through the hassle to take the furdown out at all. :confused3 I'll try to post them today!

Well, just keep reminding him (and yourself) that you'll get a pretty good return on your investment. A kitchen can make or break a house.

So can a master bathroom. :headache: :rolleyes1

Well it seems our island is giving our cabinet guys fits. Ooops. He finished the ovelay and trim yesterday. Today he is putting on the doors (essentially covereing up nearly everything he did yesterday). The the crown should be put on the top cabinets and he will be done! The stone place is coming out next Wednesday to do the template then they said it would be about 2 weeks after that for the install. Three weeks without counters (or sink) :scared1: . However DH is going to put some wood over so we have a little work room.

well the septic is done and we found out why they had to redo the leaching field.. apparently the engineers drew the plans wrong, they messed the height from the top of fire hydrent and it was supposed to be 30 inches from the top. so that placed the top of our leeching field almost 5 feet highter than it was supposed to be...so you would look in our yard and see this Huge hill with a 5 foot drop on 1 side...the next day they were fixing it, so it is now level with the rest of the yard...

we ordered countertops yesterday and the color we chose was colorado slate

here is a picture of the new kitchen, sorry it is such a bad picture but thats the only angle i could use to get the whole kitchen

I know this is "one-up-man-ship" but we went nearly 5 months without a counter, sink, dishwasher, stove, etc. etc. etc. I hope yours is done quickly!!!!

I had heard horrors about this so I had myself braced when we replaced our countertops a few years.

We went on a Saturday to see what they had and to choose the edge style - ended up choosing Ubatuba. They came that following Friday to do the template and were at my house Tuesday with my counters!!!! We were shocked!!! They pulled up and I was in a panic thinking something was wrong with the template and we had just lost a few days. Imagine my surprise when they started pulling granite out of their truck! I had no idea they were even coming (The office gal dropped the ball and called me WEDNESDAY to try and set up an appointment for them to install the countertops - she the realized she was supposed to call me Monday.....):lmao: Good thing I work from home and was already there that day.

Nah, it's not one-up-manship. Just sharing of our remodeling tales.

Hey that's what they told us, I am sure it could be longer. ;)

see i hear all these horror stories,, and see standard wait times..lol... btw.. i stripped out our kitchen here in 2003, then started putting it back as i had time.. actually august 03. had the wr eck in oct 03. went back to work full time in oct 04.. and now am working for lowes... and still just have plywood countertops.

we did stain and oil them,, and with asll the other wood in there is looks ok, but it is obviously not finished. i just put the upper cabs in november of 06... theres still one 3 ft base cAB, ( tyhe one that will house all the drawers in the kitchen) to be built and installed... we are using a stainless sink we salvaged off a job. its been long enough since i started that the dishwasher we installed is worn out and needs replaced.....
