Let's Talk Remodeling

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Hey - thats happened here too. And all this time I thought it was my award winning style of laying out the facts logically. Who knew it was just to shut me up! :lmao: :lmao:

I'm shocked!:rotfl:

I prefer to believe it's a combination of my charm, beauty and my constantly running mouth. :rotfl:

Hey y'all! I just came across this thread - I love remodeling! We just finished doing our kitchen. I could post some pics if someone is interested in seeing them. We are so happy with the results.

Up next on our to-do list is a new deck. I really hate our old one.

I'd love to see pics! If it looks half as good as the nursery, I'm sure it's a knockout!

Ok here is the before - that is the day we looked at the place with the sellers furniture. I know, yikes!

We lived with that for two years, but I needed a dishwasher so we gutted...

...ta da!! All we have left to do is buy new chairs and make a window treatment. Soooo happy and it only took 2 weeks from start to finish (and about $8,000).

What a HUGE difference! I love it! Your countertops look similar to mine.

We also did a quickie kitchen remodel. We spent around the same amount, but it took about a month. Two weeks of that was waiting for the granite to be fabricated though.

What an huge difference! You scrapped decades off that room. I bet the old owners wouldn't even recognize the place. Great job. I love the black granite and the white cabinets.

WOW! What a great job! :thumbsup2 I'm dying to know how you managed it in only two weeks & on $8000.??! That's quite remarkable for that price & so quickly.

p.s. I had to tell you that I love your log-on name! I'm assuming your a Corvette lover! As a former Vette owner:sad2: we still miss our '78 & it's been almost 10 years since we sold it.:sad1:

Wow that looks great. And your $8,000 makes me sick. ;)

As for where we are...the first payment has been made, everything is being ordered. Cabinets should be here in June and the destruction will commence. :scared1:

I agree! Y'all did a fantastic job! I remember you posting pictures of your family room before and after and it turned out beautiful as well. Love the nursery too. We're moving next week and my husband won't let me repaint the walls in DD's room, so I get to redecorate her room :teeth:

I'm still on hold with our bathroom remodel & I'm waiting for the contractor to fit in some kitchen remodeling. We redid about 5/6 years ago but somethings are just not quite right.:sad2:

Binny, that door is beautiful! I haven't seen anything like it. Where did you find it?
What did I miss? I thought you found a contractor?

Binny, I like that door too.

Am I There Yet, good luck convincing your hubby!

Galahad I hope the last of your remodeling goes smoothly.

We're moving into our new house next week. I'd like to strip the wallpaper off in the kitchen, replace the countertops, add crown molding to the cabinets and paint them but DH doesn't want to do anything for a long time. I have some convincing of my own to do!

Any thoughts on the best way to scrape a popcorn ceiling?

Not really sure, but we asked our contractors to do that with the ceilings and they told us that it was cheaper and faster just to put new drywall up. Don't know about cheaper (though I have no complaints about their prices) but it sure was fast!

vettechic I am so jealous of your kitchen..

our drywall guy quit on us yesterday and basically left us screwed so we had to postpone the painting, the cabinets getting delivered and installed and all of my brand new applicances...because he left the room in a mess...plus my cabinet installer is leaving for key largo on wed and wont be back for a month so no kitchen for me because the new drywaller cant start to a least next week....:sad1:

 You poor thing! You're going to need a Disney World vacation after all this mess settles down.

Am_I_There_Yet - you said that you are also changing the doorknobs in your house. What color knobs are you changing them to?

What color knobs do the rest of you have? I'm torn between satin nickle and one of the darker shades - like oil-rubbed bronze or a venetian bronze. I like them equally the same. However, I have to wonder if some of the darker shades are a bit too trendy and in a few years will be dated. (Watch, my brass knobs will be back in style.)

For resale, (I'm always thinking resale), does anyone have any recommendations?

I went with satin nickel because I figured it was the new polished brass. I am a realtor, so I too am thinking resale.

As much as I absolutely love oil-rubbed bronze, I was afraid it was be too trendy. Plus, I worked for a new home builder for awhile, and they were also using brushed nickel and they have interior decorators picking their items.

I do like the bronze though! :thumbsup2

Oh, no! I hate unreliable contractors!

Am_I_There_Yet, I appreciate your help. Thats what I've been thinking, its a trend that may not be around for a good long time. We're thinking of changing the banisters on our railings to iron, so thats why I've been thinking of going with the darker hardware to match.

Isn't it funny how one thing leads to another which leads to another. No wonder I can't make a quick decision! Something so simple as a doorknob. But then there's the railings, and the hinges on the door, and the matching finish on the ceiling fans, and so on and so on. Yup, the towel bar syndrome.

What did I miss? I thought you found a contractor?

We have found a contractor that we like & think will work great. I'm not sure if I mentioned it here, but the bathroom remodel is to make it more handicap accessible for DH, we are going through a "grant" process with the state on this. The contractor that we like, was not one of the pre-approved contractors that the state sent out,(which were either awful or just didn't show or call back) but one we found on our own. So he nows needs state approval & then will have to submit a bid to the state.

We like this guy so much, that I'm looking at getting him in to do some minor improvements in my kitchen. He's very busy but his working on getting us in. We are probably 2 months away from starting the bathroom remodel.

Well, if it helps any, I used brushed nickel on my kitchen faucets, I have stainless appliances, brushed nickel hardware on the doors and I have iron pendant lights, and iron knobs on my cabinets.

I honestly never thought about mixing them. Now you've gone and made me think about it... ;)

Seriously, I love the oiled bronze! If it's what you like, go for it. Who knows - it could be the new brushed nickel. It's pricier, so you don't see it as much. :confused3

You know another look that I love, that I'm afraid is trendy? The darker trim and doors. Like a dark taupe? I see a lot of builders doing their trim in that now, whereas before, it was always white enamel.

We're seeing that a lot here too - in the new construction over the past year or so. Its pretty, thats for sure. Most existing houses here still have the glossy white trim. I can't see that ever going out of style.
