Let's Talk Remodeling

Hey, you never know! If someone could want a grilled cheese sandwich with the Virgin Mary on it, I can't imagine that someone wouldn't want some quartz! :rolleyes1

Hey yeah. Maybe if I'm lucky there will be an image of the shroud of Turin in the counter top......... :p

So there was this hunk of something heavy in the corner of the garage. I just thought it was something being used for the project. My son pointed out to me that it's the part of the countertop that they cut out to put the cook top in. So if anybody needs a piece of blue quarts about 2 feet by three feet, let me know. Perhaps somebody will buy it on e-bay. :P

Can you use it in a bathroom? Seems like it would be a perfect size for that...

Leave it to someone. They'll find it if they look hard enough!

I agree with MareQ - is there a powder room remodel in your near future?

dont they usually use that for the cutting board?

I knwo when my friend had hers installed they adhered one piece inside a cabinet in case they ever needed to replace part of it and then made the rest of it into a cutting board for her. I think they just put those little felt feet things on it.

Thats really a good idea. I never heard of anyone having that done.

Good point. We're saving the extra backsplash tile for a future bathroom project too.

Also a great idea. It would look pretty cool!

How is everyone doing with their remodeling projects?

Ours is still plodding on. We've got the floors installed and as pretty as they are, I am kicking myself a bit. They're Brazillian Cherry but being that they're a bit on the dark brown/red side, they're showing everything! :scared1: Dust from your shoes are leaving shoe marks everywhere. Not sure if I had to do it over again would I pick such a deep, rich color. They look awesome, but I know it will always be a battle to keep them clean.

Now I'm knee-deep in door knob hunting. Who would have thought there were so many types and styles of door knobs? Since we're doing the basement, we have to carry the style throughout the rest of the house (gotta change those bright brass knobs!). We have to take out a small loan to do this as I think I've counted over 50 knobs. :scared: And the finishes...antique nickle, satin nickle, oil-rubbed bronze, weathered pewter, venetian bronze...and so on and so on and so on. :sad2: Its enough to drive you batty.

Ours is moving along. They are working on the "inside" finish work on the solarium. They found a problem with part of the sub floor in there that had to be fixed last week so that it matches up right with the rest of the house. Then they found a problem with some of the beams/studs in the new extended walls/dormer that had to be fixed yesterday. Our new electrician is working out much better than the one we fired. They have built the "box" that houses the TV "lift". I think they finish drywall in there today or tomorrow and start the flooring in there soon (tile). The kitchen "little details" have not been completed yet as it is the same guys that are doing the solarium and they are trying to maximize their efforts there. So while we can mostly use the kitchen we still don't have use of most of the main floor of the house since we can't move furniture back where it belongs yet. BUT, there is work going on each day, so I don't feel like we're just wasting time as we have at times in the last 5 month.

I woudl love to reaplce all of those yucky doorknobs. i woudl prefer to replace all of the cheapy hollow doors though first.

Thats ok - I don't even know how! :lmao:

I really like that door. Very, very nice! :thumbsup2 Do you have plans to change the doors soon? Remember, changing doors lead to sometimes changing moldings! :lmao: Next thing you know, you're retrimming the whole house. :scared1:

Mine is still where it was last week and the week before. On paper and in my imagination.

We're leaving for WDW in 20 days though, so I'm not going to even worry about it until I get back. I'll have my husband as a captive audience for 16 hours in the car. Maybe he'll cave in just to shut me up. It's been known to happen.

Binny - LOVE those doors! I would love to have those too! As a matter of fact, I found this solid wood door that I wanted for our front door (we have full leaded-glass right now, and I feel so exposed at night), and I thought, well... it's just wood, how much could it be? That sucker was almost $3k! :scared1:

Mickeysgal - We're still in the process of changing our knobs out to brushed nickel, and we've been in the process of doing it for over a year now. :headache:

Galahad - It won't be long! Sorry you've had more hiccups, but at least the electrician is working out. That's a biggie! I can't wait to see the finished product!

I can't believe I'm falling for all of this hardware stuff - so much that I'm going to a Baldwin "showroom" today (aka - get the checkbook out). I have to see all these metal colors all together.

I was all set to go with the satin nickel (I assume its the same as brushed nickel :confused3 ) but a guy from an online hardware store yesterday told me that it has a greenish cast to the coloring? :confused3 It could be just the brand he was referring to (Weslock). Do your knobs have a greenish cast to them?

Galahad, its those nit-picky details that never seem to get done. They just drag on and on and on. Quite honestly, I don't know how you have done it and are still upbeat and sane. I don't think I have the stamina for what you've undertaken. My hats off to you! :flower3:

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Hey - thats happened here too. And all this time I thought it was my award winning style of laying out the facts logically. Who knew it was just to shut me up! :lmao: :lmao:

I'm shocked!:rotfl:

Hey y'all! I just came across this thread - I love remodeling! We just finished doing our kitchen. I could post some pics if someone is interested in seeing them. We are so happy with the results.

Up next on our to-do list is a new deck. I really hate our old one.

Yes, lets see those pictures!! :)

Welcome Vettechick!!!:goodvibes

Of course, we'd love to see pics! Especially for those of us with projects on hold, who are remodeling vicarously through what we get to hear & see on our remodeling thread!!

I'm still on hold with our bathroom remodel & I'm waiting for the contractor to fit in some kitchen remodeling. We redid about 5/6 years ago but somethings are just not quite right.:sad2:

Binny, that door is beautiful! I haven't seen anything like it. Where did you find it?

No, not at all. I would think brushed and satin would be the same thing too.
