Let's Talk Remodeling

Started our demolition yesterday and we've added another $1000 on to the bill. It seems behind the splash board the old tile was left plus there were huge holes in the wall with broken plaster and no insulation. The guy doing it took everything down and insulated and today he has to put up sheet rock. On the bright side the kitchen is so much warmer now (which is good because it's going down into the 20's on Sunday).

We've had a lot going on here too! The granite was installed today, along with the sink & upper cabinets. Sinks not working yet & lights aren't up, so my pics wouldn't come out. I'll try again tomorrow cus I could really use some help with drawer/door pull placement. Both DH & I were super happy with the look of it all, I can't wait to show y'all!

Can't wait to see your pics!!

Cabinets are in. Now I need to wait until Tuesday so the countertop guys can come and measure. Then it's another week without a sink. I can't wait to start putting some of my stuff away in the upper cabinets today.

Everything is in, except the drawer pulls, the vanity lights & the glass door. I don't have enough light in there to get a good pic, but they will be coming soon!

We can all sympathize! :grouphug: In the kitchen or bathroom no sink or counters is real killer! I was actually shocked to go into the bathroom on Friday & find water running in the sink!

Okay remodelers! Our bathroom vanity area is finally finished!

This is the view of the vanity from the bedroom:

You can see the old carpet that will come out soon, we'll put wood floors there & new wider baseboards.

The lights & the mirror:

See the doors open & slide back, so my DH can pull right under the sink!

Here's one of my antique bedroom pieces that we tried to copy:

We painted the closet door here:

same door, different view:

And the entrance door to the bedroom was removed & replaced with a wider door, so my DH can fit through it, hopefully without scraping the moldings anymore!

After the floors go in, that's the color we'll put on the baseboards & if money allows add some crown moulding to the bedroom.

And here is the frameless shower door with the etching we'd been waiting on!

Since it's been so long since we finished the shower room, here's a reminder pic of that.

A great big THANK YOU goes out to everyone here for all your advice, answers & ideas!!! I don't think we could have accomplished this without everyone's help! :goodvibes :worship:

Oh and I forgot to include a pic of one of my favorite things we put in the bathroom! We put the electrical outlets inside the cabinets on both sides. I can leave my blow dryer plugged in AND out of sight! I also had the contractor install (hardwired) a lighted magnifying make-up mirror that pivots out. It's so cool, I feel spoiled!

Shovan: Your bathroom remodel is just beautiful.:thumbsup2 I would love to have a shower that big. The bathrooms in my 1400 sq ft ranch would require an addition to get a shower that large. :rotfl2:

We are going to do our hall bathroom in the spring sometime. It will not be too elaborate but it should make it look quite different. We are changing the vanity, the mirror and adding a storage cabinet over the toilet. The vanity top will be granite. We will still have a shower curtain for our shower as we are not changing that out.

Here is what we have picked out.

This vanity looks so much better in person with the granite top. This picture doesn't do it justice.

shovan,
It is absolutely Gorgeous!!!! Love your faucets, love your granite and love your tile!! Fantastic job!!:worship:
You must be so excited to be done!

We went shopping last weekend for our towel racks, and new hand soap dispensers. I'll have to post a finished pic.

Shovan, that bathroom is a sure fire winner. Beautiful!! :worship: :worship:

Are you done, as in done, done? :woohoo:

That vanity area is gorgeous. :lovestruc :lovestruc

Thanks Y'all! :goodvibes The bathroom is finished! I forgot to take a pic of the shower after the towel bars & robe hook were put in, but yes it is totally finished now. We are beyond excited to have it done! We are so happy with not only the look of it, but the function has improved sooo much over what we had. The accessibility for my DH is just great. It is making life a whole lot simpler, easier & just freaking better!

mickeysgal, Are we done, done? Well with the master bathroom, YES! The bedroom, den, hall bathroom? :sad2: Not hardly! We'll be putting in wood floors & new baseboards in the bedroom next. Then hopefully this year, sheetrock the rest of the den & get a granite counter for the bar in there. Of course now that the bathroom looks so good, I've noticed that the cabinets in the hall bath look pretty shabby & the whole rest of the house really needs a coat of paint. Oh & we need a new garage door, and would like to replace the front door. It's never ending isn't it. Now only if we could win the lottery.;)

Not quite yet. We liked the one they had on the vanity at Lowes but I am still not sure yet. :confused3

Bolding mine.
Those words I can't relate to. :rotfl2:

Uh oh...and there it starts. :scared1:

All joking aside, I really admire your overall design - it has a beautiful blend of colors, texture, and quality. Congratulations.

Shovan,
The bathroom is beautiful! Although I may be a little partial b/c ours looks very similar. We used the exact same faucet and sink! Love the look, you did an awesome job!

OMGOSh all the bathroom are gorgeous!!!

I am So envious! I would love to update our half bath. That is a long time down the road though.

I did find out something very interesting though. Our city provides Rehab loans to upgrade houses to be more energy efficient. I have a meeting next week with the lady but from what I know now they send someone out to help you decide what can be done to make your house more energy efficient. This includes windows, furnaces, hot water heaters, roofing, the list is actually really long. They will do it at 3% and stretch it out for a long time, 20 years in some cases.
You can even use your own contractors.

If any of you are looking for stuff like that you might want to see if your city offer someithing similar.

Thank you again!
It sure is really scary, that when you finally get something finished & it looks so good, that you start looking around and :scared1: ! It all starts with a towel bar, right?:lmao:

If you remember we did have assistance from our state to make handicap accessible renovations. And then we spent a lot more of our own money to upgrade everything! The tile, the vanity, the sink, the counter! You name it, it costs us even more. We would not have been able to do this without the state's assistance though! For which we are very very grateful! In fact, my DH's HA counselor will be coming by today to do a final run through. We will be taking her out to lunch after to show our appreciation!

Picking out the granite made me a little crazy! Thanks to AMITY's suggestion on the crema bordeaux it came out beautiful! I think my choice would have been a mistake.

Oh, wow, Shovan! I LOVE that vanity! It's so nice to see some finished bathrooms. Because apparently we'll all be old and gray before mine is on here.

Y'all did a wonderful job! :thumbsup2

I''ve been waiting for you! I was anxiously awaiting your opinion on it all! Thanks again for all of your suggestions & help!:worship:

I hope you get it done before you are old & gray! Too late for me, I am getting old & if not for hair color would be gray!;)

Hi everyone!
The bathrooms are gorgeous. I'm so jealous of everyone with a nice big bathroom they can refurbish. Our only bathroom is the size of a half bath, but I'm in the process of picking out stuff for it now. I'm hoping we can start the remodel soon (DH's work schedule is crazy). Right now, most of the bathroom is going to be tiled the same color as Shovan's shower. with the upper half of the walls being painted anything but beige or yellow :rotfl:

Just think of much less you'll spend. Or think of the quality items you can buy, because you don't have to buy as much. :thumbsup2
