Let's talk refrigerators

Also my dad thinks Lowes has the best warranty. When his went out they decide they couldn't fix it and just cut him a check for the full price of his almost 4 year old fridge. The did come out twice, 2 days in a row, but they have a lemon policy that 3 times and they get you a new one.
I was thinking Menards since they had 11% back, but when I got that 10% off code from Slick deals to work I just went with Lowes since he was insisting. We have had awful luck, our Whirlpool that came with the house was only 6 when it died. So we needed the warranty. We didn't get one with the electrolux :sad:Bought it from a guy whose brother worked for them.

we also looked at frigidaire gallery series, but the ice makers in those are poor. My brothers kept going out, he bought from the same guy we did so no fixing it after the first year. I really loved that the shelves and drawers all moved and the no fingerprint doors. But in the end went with LG.
My friend has a frigidaire too and she said her ice maker never worked, but she still wanted me to get one. But ice is a big deal to us.

In 2003 we bought on of the first french door fridges on the market. It was a Kenmore Elite and we loved it. In 2008 we moved into a home with a built-in fridge so the Kenmore moved into the garage where we store overflow stuff. It still works great and in the 11 years we've had it we've had no problems with it even though we don't vacuum the coils often enough. That sucker is built like a brick and really well organized. It's amazing what I can fit into it. It's also really easy to clean.

We have a Samsung french door. We really like it. It has lots of space, and we do have filtered water and an ice maker. The water and ice maker are NOT on the door though and I LOVE that. The outside looks nice and smooth and there are no mineral deposits from dripping water. The ice is in a tray in the freezer and the water is just inside the door, on the side. It is really hard to find a fridge that doesn't have that on the outside.

OP here - thanks to all for your reviews and opinions. Ya'll had me sold on a bottom freezer until...we discovered why our freezer was frosting up, thawing and not circulating air, thus lowering the temp in the refrigerator as well.

I feel like such a doofus! :rotfl:

We figured the age (13-14 yrs. old) meant the fan was shot and it wasn't worth repairing. Low and behold, while tossing the thawed items from the freezer the night before garbage day, we found a small ziplock bag of leftover chopped green pepper that had fallen behind the bottom bin, and blocking the air vent thingy (that's a technical term). ;) Plugged it back in, monitored all the temps with a thermometer and it's back to normal.

I think it just wanted some attention...:rotfl2:

Will file away all your recommendations for NEXT time!

We bought this one through searsoutlet.com:

With shipping, we saved 1300.00 over the price shown in this picture. I just checked and didn't see any right now but check often because it is worth every penny. I love the water dispenser inside the fridge instead of outside in the door. You have to grab ice from the ice maker in the freezer but that's no big deal to me.

We had an electrolux that went out after only 3.5 years. My dad had the same issue so we knew it was coming. I was told by many people to stay away from GE and Samsung. A friend who works for GE said she would never buy one even with her huge discount. And then a friend's boyfriedn works for HH Gregg and he said never Samsung. They are all crap and he would't take one if you paid him.

We got an LG French Door refrigerator 28 cubic foot with ice/water in the door from Lowes for $1874. It was the same price at Best Buy and Menards. I ordered online with a 10% off coupon and went through Upromise to get $102 back. This was better than Ebates. I got the 4 year warranty.
I really like the French Door. It has so much space. We have a stand up freezer too, but I like the freezer. I feel like I can find stuff easier in the bottom drawer. We really wanted a 2nd ice maker, but it was $1000 more for 30 cubic square foot and it did have a few more lights, but I think ours is plenty bright.
DH uses a ton of ice, we just keep the bottom full too if we plan to need more. we have had a few weeks now and love it.

This is what we got, but it was onsale. Pus I used a 10% off online.

That is nice. :thumbsup2

I love the "tall feature" of the ice dispenser. I fill large drink mugs with ice/water and I have to fill a cup with ice/water and pour that into my mug with my current fridge.
