Let's Talk Bras....

Hope it's not too much off topic, but I am needing to find a strapless bra for my 38 DD daughter's prom dress. Can anyone steer us toward a comfortable and supportive strapless for a larger size?

I wore a good one with my wedding dress. It was actually one of those ones you basically glue on  but kept everything pretty much in check (I put it on myself but would have been better with some help) for about 6hrs.

It was similar to this:

I was a 38D when I wore it and I wasn't concerned about spilling out of it.

I used to wear VS Body by Victoria but the price was just getting to be ridiculous.

I went to Kohls and bought a few different bras. When I found one I liked, I went back and purchased more. They are about half the price of the ones at VS. The brand is called Barely There.

Here's a link. (Hopefully it works.)

I don't wear a larger size though so I'm not sure how it works for ladies with bigger bust sizes.

They say hand wash but I'm too lazy for that. I just was them on delicate and hang them to dry. Some I've had for over a year now and they are still in new condition. Can't say the same for some of the VS bras I've purchased in the past.

Are they $20 in store? I might give them a whirl since they look almost exactly like the body by victoria bras.

But I normally only pay $25 for the VS ones on sale w/ a coupon but I need a whole new set of them very soon and VS doesn't really have any total purchase coupons.

I think it maybe depends on the store? You could always call and ask. I have gotten them in the store at that price before though. I typically check whenever I'm there and if they are one sale (and if they have my size in stock) I grab one.

The bras at Target beat out the ones from Victorias Secret according to Consumer Reports. For the price they can't be beat.

Which ones, specifically, at Target? I'm in the market for new bras, too! :rotfl:

Curvation! I just discovered these! Bought one, then went back and got four more. Great support, no seams, no wires, and 15 bucks!

I absolutely love Cacique from Lane Bryant. I am a 40DD and I need support and something that keeps the "girls" in place because I lift my disabled son alot. These are the only bras that keep everything where I like it. They run about $35 but they run alot of sales and promotions so they aren't too bad. Just stock up when they are on sale. :thumbsup2

Goodluck!!

As a 38DD I think I'll be looking into the Lane Bryant bras, so thank you for the recommendations :thumbsup2. I have purchased Gillain and O'Malley bras at Target and they have been ok. But like the original poster I too am in need of full coverage, but prefer underwires, no padding as I have plenty of my own (but a molded cup), and can do without the deep plunge.

The Fredrick's ones are good. I've gone that route in the past. Before the "girls" got too big I occassionaly purchased bras at VS, but alas I've outgrown their bras :rotfl2:

DD to D myself. Recently decided to use this:

Now I honestly use them or go braless. I'm much more comfortable. Was having aches and pains prior to this. Now, for the first time in years, I have been pain free.:thumbsup2

Not for everyone... Sometimes I just pop them in to go into public, them I pop them out as soon as I hit my car and head home.:rotfl: Cracks my DH up.;)

Wow...you must be um...perky... I'm a DD and w/o a bra I'd be down wayyyyy tooooooo looooooooowwwwww...... :scared1::scared1:

I've always loved Bali no underwire bras. I've been a few cup sizes as I lost 100lbs from 42DD to 34C. They have been the best for full support and you don't fall out of when you have to lean over. I buy mine on sale at Kohls.

I've never been able to find anything that keeps you in at Victoria Secret when you lean over.

I pick bras that are not all cotton as I have found that those like to shrink in the wash so I get the ones that have an all spandex like cup without the cotton padding inside.
:scared1: WOW that is great...sorry to hog your thread...its OT just wanted to give ya a :thumbsup2

I love the balconette bras from Lane Bryant. They start at 34C I believe and I almost always get them on sale. I'm a 38D (I also have 3 kids) so I really need support and have found these to be the best bra for me.

I needed a strapless for my sisters wedding....I went with a long-line strapless from Wacoal. Also, the lady fitting me said you typically have to go up a cup size in a strapless.

If any of you have a Nordstroms near you, go get fitted there!!! They are great at sizing you. Also, different brands cut differently so ignore the size and go for what fits....you're the only one looking at the tag!

That said, my current bras are Chantelle (about $65) size 36D and Natori (about $55) size34DD. I also have some Wacoals that are 34DD/36D depending on the style. I never wanted a "padded" bra, but the lady at Nordstroms convinced me to try a Chantelle with the molded cups. Let me tell you, they keep the girls in place! :cool1: After wearing that bra the first time, I got complements on my "nice new sweater" from some gentlemen who had definitely seen that sweater before!

I've watched "How to Look Good Naked" with Carson Cressly (sp?), and he says get a good bra and a good haircut and you can fake everything else. Take his word on the bra....get one that fits!

I wear a large size and recently went to Von Maur for a fitting and liked the Chantelle ones. The one I got was pricey ($88) but there are some things you have to make room in the budget for. I like it so well I'm ready to make the switch and buy a couple more.

I love love love Gap Body T-Shirt bras. They are about $36 here, but you can find them on sale easily in the "regular" (beige, black) colors. I am 36D and these are the only bras I can deal with at work (I'm a doula and I wait tables sometimes) The straps don't slide and they hold up very well.

I've also in the past loved the Lane Bryant Cacique bras. Very comfortable but most of them have at least 3 hooks and I personally prefer 2 well spaced hooks.

No matter what bra you buy never put it in the dryer! I ONCE sent my laundry in and forgot to separate out my bras, they DID NOT and ruined my "fancier" ones. These were not the afore mentioned Gap t-shirts, but still, it's like throwing money away.

Personally, I don't care for the Victoria's Secrets bras (body by as well as lacier ones) as I find they don't last particularly long, though I understand the appeal. I think they are a bit expensive for what you get back.

Best thing I ever did? I got fitted for my bra at an independent retailer. (yes also they do that at Victoria's Secret but I've been given 4 different sizes there!)

With heavy breasts being comfortable is of utmost importance, especially when I'm at the occasional 48 hour labor! I don't want to be thinking about my bra strap digging in to me!

36DD here and I like the Cacique from Lane Bryant. You don't have to be a larger woman to buy there. I am a size 6 but I have a discount store here called Gabriel Bros. that often has them for 5 bucks or less, that's how I found them at first or I would have never thought to buy from Lane Bryant. I wait for a good coupon and a sale and get them pretty reasonably priced.

I get all my bras at Lane Bryant. January and July is when they have the buy 2 get 2 FREE sale. I always wait for a 25 off $75 or really 50 off $150, when I get 8 and add a few clearance clothes. So 8 bras for $100 plus I got 4 shirts. I like the cloth demi cup. They even ordered some and shipped them to my house for free when they didn’t have enough in my size. They came in 2 days.

:lmao::lmao::lmao:

Not really. I just don't care.:confused3 Comfort is more important. I couldn't live with the pain any longer...
