Haunted Mansion is my (and DD5) very favorite ride...and I (and I'm sure a lot of DIS members) love talking about Disney and those things we love.
SO...I thought I'd start a thread on Haunted Mansion for those that also love it.
  1. What do you love about it?
  2. What's your favorite part?
  3. Do you find it scary?

I rode this when I was 6 and the one part I remember is
  • when sitting in the doom buggies and looking in the mirror and there are ghosts sitting in the buggy with you

Other cool parts:
  • Writing on the tombstones while in the queue (funny)
  • Talking Head in the ball
  • Seeing footsteps walking up the stairs on the wrong side
  • Graveyard with singing heads
  • Heads missing in the pictures
  • Doors trying to open
  • Entire backstory (just watch any of the youtube videos on the history)

And I love how every time you ride this, you see something different.
I do not find the ride scary at all (nor does my DD5), but just tons of fun

DH looooooves the HM. It terrified me as a kid, and to this day, it still freaks me out!! :scared1:

My favorite part is getting off the doombuggy at the end :lmao: But, I'll endure it because it's literally my DH's favorite ride. I find ToT much less scary than HM! Does that make me crazy?? :rotfl2:

The backstory.....bride, husbands, attic, falling out of the attic into the graveyard, your graveyard welcome, hitchhiking ghosts.

The 'newly' added endless staircase, with footsteps.

My favorite is the endless hallway. I'm not sure why but I wish you could pause in front of that hall and just look for a second. I also love the ballroom. I love seeing the ghosts come out of the herse.

I also love at the very end the ghost that's bricking up his own tomb. Not sure why I find that so funny. :)

Love that ride!!

The Ghost Hostess at the end "Hurry Backkkkk". So many little details throughout the ride. My absolute FAVORITE experience.

This made me laugh.

I was scared of the hitchhiking ghost in our buggy at the end as a child. Eeek. It bothered me.

My dd4 asked if the ghost would come home with us and when I said no she said "awe". :scared1: It didn't bother her at 4 and I was scared at 7. Go figure.

Both of my kids love it. The details are amazing.

The overall theme is just incredible. A haunted house but the ghosts are not really out to get you or grab at you .... save one.

My favorites? The Singing Busts in the graveyard! Madame Leota! The ballroom scene! All of these were the only parts I could stand to look at as a child without hiding my face in my mom's shoulder.

Do I get scared..... I HAVE to sit on the right side of the buggy so someone will be between me and that horrifying bride in the attic. Here comes the bride indeed. :scared1: And heaven forbid the ride stop much longer than to let someone on/off the ride. I'll start singing Grim Grinning Ghosts or Small World at the top of my lungs. If it's not obvious, I'm a pretty big chicken with an overactive imagination.

I absolutely ADORE Haunted Mansion. It's easily my favorite ride at Disney World, and I typically drag my family/friends on it multiple times every trip. I just love the whole macabre feeling and that it transports you into the story so well.

As an adult, I certainly don't find it scary, and have on good authority (from my mom  ) that even when they took me on my first WDW vacation when I was 4, I wasn't frightened at all.

I'm so excited about the new Haunted Mansion gift store, as well. I'm back at the world in only 38 days, and am really looking forward to buying one of the Haunted Mansion magic bands if they're still available.

Tightrope girl. I don't know why, but I adore Miss Dora! I have always been fascinated by her, and my MNSSHP costume is of her (Marc Davis version), and we have two paintings/prints of her in our house.

Also, in the new line there is a internment that says, "Drink a toast to our friend Ken, fill your glass and don't say 'when'". DHs name is the same, and that line describes him perfectly!

What a fun thread to read! We LOVE this ride! We have many favourite parts.
1- the dinner party scene (we like to find the hidden Mickey plates)
2- 'Hurrrrry Back"
3- the hitchhiking ghosts
4- the back story
It's all good :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Fun thread!

This was my dd's favorite ride on our last trip and she was newly turned 5 at the time. She still talks about it constantly.

I think the thing I love about it most is that it is scarily themed without relying on any nasty blood and guts. I like that there is nothing gross that you see like what the cheap haunted houses do around Halloween.

I also love that there is so much detail in the ride that you see something new every time you go through it just like another poster mentioned. I'm not sure how many ride throughs it would take to be able to see every single thing, but I bet it would be a lot.

We love it so much too! Fiance and I are looking forward to this more than just about anything else for our trip in March! My absolute favorite part that I remember from being a child is the floating head in glass that's talking. That was always the part I'd remember as a kid when I thought back to my trips.

The first time I rode this ride I was 10 and it was Halloween day. This was loooong before MNSSHP. I was so scared. But I loved the ride and may have over thought it before I went in
. I still find the beginning of the ride before you actually see any ghosts to be far scarier than when we start to see ghosts on the ride.
I love the new cue and how every time over the last 20 years Ive always seem something that was different or that I didn't notice before.
I love the changes they added in WDW with the stair cases and the bride in the attic.
I still get a little creeped out at the beginning and I love it.:scared1: Foolish Mortal am I.

It creeps me out. And, if the ride stops I totally freak out.

I absolutely positively LOVE the ballroom scene. It has been my favorite for as long as I can remember. I've always wanted to do a Halloween costume based on this ride and now I think this upcoming year I'm going to try and go for it! I would love to figure out a way to do one of the ballroom dancers..maybe kind of like those in the MNSSHP? Or the tightrope girl?? Gets me excited thinking about it!

My favorite is the endless hallway. I'm not sure why but I wish you could pause in front of that hall and just look for a second.

I agree...the "endless hallway with the ghostly candelabra. Absolutely magnificent and really creepy!

The loading area is super creepy, as well.

The Ghost Hostess at the end "Hurry Backkkkk".

Yes...that is killer...sublime.

I always thought that it wasn't a very popular attraction and was in danger of being removed someday...until I joined the DisBoards and saw just how popular it actually is.:confused3

Ditto! We've been back for more than a month and DD constantly asks 'when can we go on "monsters" again?' (That's what she calls Haunted Mansion)

OMG...I can't believe I missed the store. I totally would have bought something and worn it at home. Where is it located? Totally kicking myself! :headache:

Oh yes...and I forgot the other two that some have listed
  • ballroom with ghosts (how do they do that???)
  • "huurrry baccckk" (in the creepy voice)

Gee...guess all the parts are my favorite :rotfl:

I love everything... although my first time on that ride was different. I was 23.. we had my cousin who was wheel chair bound with us.. we went in the exit ( it was 1999) and I rode with my eye closed the entire ride..I refused to open them. I hate scare stuff and I was the biggest wuss ever!!! Rode again in 2000, had to go in the stretching room and again rode with my eyes closed... WUSS I was...
