Am I the only one who is not overly concerned about possibly being sued because someone gets hurt playing in my yard or in my pool or I look at their kid funny:confused3 It seems that there are so many posts on here that end up with people talking about being afraid of getting sued. I think it is a sad day when some people won't even have a friend over or let a kid shovel their walk in case they get hurt. Maybe I'm naive but I refuse to live like that. I guess I like to think the best about people but who knows maybe that'll bite me in the butt someday:rotfl2:

i'm with you on that one. at least under normal circumstances.......

a few years ago a bunch of neighborhood kids were playing football outside. my son sliced his leg open on a piece of glass. looking back, i guess i could have sued the homeowner???? it never even occurred to me. :confused3
i was just thankful for the man that carried my (heavy!) son home and put him in my car for me! we went to the ER and he ended up with around 40 stiches :scared1: it was nasty, but still i had no thoughts of sueing.

I am not concerned with it either.

We have always had a group of kids in our yard, playing football or baseball, swimming in mom's pool or just playing chase or something.

I never really gave getting sued much thought.

Sadly, there seem to be far too few people who think the way you do. When there are personal injury lawyers advertising non-stop on TV, and news stories about people getting big $$ from lawsuits, people are going to look for opportunities to cash in. I remember my insurance agent back in NJ saying that back when he started his business insurance was not anywhere near the cost it is today because now people look at minor accidents as winning lottery tickets.

I have a large automobile policy and a very large umbrella policy. Thus, I do not worry about being sued. ;)

I have lots of kids hanging out at my farm all the time. I probably should worry more about lawsuits than I do. Especially when you throw large animals, like horses into the mix. I believe they are what is called an "attractive nuisance".

i'm 38 years old and grew up running wild, always lots of kids around, shooting bb guns, swimming in pools, lakes, and ponds, etc. i have NEVER heard of anyone suing/being sued for injuries. has anybody?? :confused3 it's always stated as a concern, i've just never heard of it actually happening......

Not me - I just make sure parents sign a waiver if their children are over our home. ;) Actually, if my child sustains an injury at home, I send him/her right over to our neighbor's lawn, to pretend it happened there! :rotfl:

Here, anytime we turn anything even remotely accidental in to our health insurance, we get a letter asking us what happened, where it happened, etc. If our health insurance provider can find anyone else that might be remotely responsible for little Johnny's stitches, they are going after them. It's a little hard not to be paranoid.

Same here - kids from everywhere in our yard or swimming in our pool in the summer. They also sled down the hill in my front yard.

I have insurance... :surfweb:

:lmao: I actually DO have the parents sign a waiver.

Exactly. You may not have a choice as to whether the other party gets sued. And even if they are not successful in their suit and you are not found responsible, how much do you think you would have spent defending yourself?

Us too, my husband fell down our stairs and broke his toe and we got 2 letters, the first asking us where it happened and the scond asking us if we were sure it was our stairs. Well, they lead from our hallway to our foyer, so I assume they are ours :rotfl:

I had to laugh at this. That's exactly what my husband's employer requires from each employee whenever there is a celebration/function outside of work. If you don't sign the waiver, you can't attend the function. :upsidedow

Exactly. Besides I refuse to live my life afraid of what someone else may decide to do. Nor will I hold back my kids lives from having fun with their friends.

Too many major worries about things that are really happening to worry about something that may or may not even happen.

We had a child climb our tree out front (we weren't even home) and fall. Because it happened on my property, our home insurance had to be the main insurance. They did also try to sue us, but our insurance company said if they did, they would ask for neglect charges to be brought to the the parents. I don't know if they could have been, but they dropped the suit. My insurance company also paid for the sweater the ER cut off, to fix the little girl's broken arm, on the insistance of the parents.

Several years ago, I slipped in my mom's driveway getting into my car (I guess I didn't shovel good enough LOL). At the ER, the nurse asked me if I was sure it happened in my mom's driveway, because if it did, that's who would be paying the bill. Silly me..it was my own drive way.

Had this happened to me, our family would have made sure that we exacted a little "friendly" revenge... :lmao:

If people would make an effort to get to know each other, there might be a lot less tendency to sue. It is much easier to take legal action against someone you don't know well and don't really care about. Making friends with people makes them much more likely to try to work things out in a friendly manner. People are way to isolationist now days for my liking.

I grew up the same and yup, I do know of someone being sued for injuries. It split up my group of friends. One of my friends' parents sued another one of my friends' parents over a bb gun injury. Both kids were negligent, these were girls, btw and teens.
