Let's Share Gas Shortage Info

Prices are coming down in our area. They went from 3.09 this morning down to 2.89 and some even 2.79.

The Governor of Georgia has removed the state gas taxes for the rest of the month of September. The savings in Georgia will be .15 cents per gallon.
He asked residents to report stations that do not comply with the order.

Gas prices are down in our area running at $2.99 a gallon for regular unleaded! They were $3.49 this morning! :cheer2:

I cant speak for the rest of the country, but here in NC, Ive spotted the "no brainer" trend of what I call "zigzagged price increases" over the past 3 years. It raises to $1.50 for a week, then drops to $1.40 for a few weeks then jumps to $1.75 for a week or two, then drops to $1.60 for a week or two. Then it raises to $1.95, then back to $1.75 and so on and so on. Anyone else here see the trend? It never falls to less than it was before the most recent hike (usually 10-15 cents more), and each time the hike is bigger than the last. Kinda "diversion psychology". Not a steady upward raise, but a rise and fall method. In my opinion, this was just a very good excuse to hike the prices all at once, and I doubt seriously we'll ever see the $2.49 prices again, which were what it was here 2 weeks ago. My guess will be after this is all "supposedly" cleared up it will be back down to $2.89 for a few weeks till they raise it back to $3.09 again.
BTW, a gas station in my town is advertising gas at $2.83 for 87 unleaded. When you get in line, and get to the pump, you suddenly see the bags over the 87 octane and 89 octane, leaving you paying only for the 93 octane. While it may be honest enough (the 93 octane is priced very good), I have to wonder is there really no 87 octane? Noone else here seems to be out. :smooth:

From what I've read it seems that southwest florida is not coming back quite as fast, though some say by the weekend. Our prices have been falling here and Georgia's prices will fall at least 15 cents tomorrow. Orlando doesn't seem to have any problems with gas and Disney even gets theirs from the Virgin islands. Does southwest florida have a different supply than the other southern states?

Interesting--ours went UP!!
But saw the same thing again last evening--one station had regular at $3.09. Right across the street, another had it at $3.19. Were two cars at the $3.19 station--maybe 20 at the $3.09 station!! By waiting in line, they probably burned most of that .10 cents a gallon.
And another observation--on I-83, people still driving at 75-85 MPH (as usual).
Just everyone slowing down to 60-65 would save untold gallons of gas annually.
Think it'll happen?? :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Think Tampa gets their petroleum by barge from the gulf coast refineries.

Drove to FL today through GA on I-75. The only problem we had with gas was that Costco was out of premium (at $2.60) but had regular unleaded. Saw prices ranging from $3-$3.20 per gallon for regular unleaded along I-75 but never a problem with availability. If these stations dropped prices due to the govenor repealing sales tax, I would have hate to have seen prices yesterday.

Has anyone drove into Orlando via I-95, I'll be driving in on Wed. The only trouble spot I could see would be Charlotte and maybe Columbia but I plan to gas outside of the cities since its usually cheaper anyway. Sounds like if you got through on I-75 today, it should be more than fine on Wednesday.

Ours is still rising as of today! We are now at $3.99 for premium, and $3.79 for regular.

Gas in Southeastern MA is anywhere from 3.19 to 3.99 a gal when I left this morning, but when I got to FL it was anywhere from 2.79 to 3.19 a gal for regular unleaded. Some stations were out of the mid and premium grades but I have not found a station in north central FL that is completely out of gas. I was able o get gas for the lawnmower this afternoon at 2.89 and there was not too many people at the station and the one across the street was also 2.89 and had no one there at the time I was getting gas.

There was gas shortages earlier in the week in FL acording to DS but it seams better now. I can't speak for the Orlando area stations as I went up 417 to the house. I will most likely hit Disney either tomorrow or Monday, I'll give a report afterwards.

I believe the gas situation is a lot better in Central Florida. Much of the gas shortage issue was due to over-reaction and people filling multiple cars and gas cans.

The BP right down the road was out of gas for one evening. They are back up and running at $2.89. They consitently stay lower than many places around.

I have not been through Disney property lately to see the proces there.

my husband experienced people fighting over gas containers and gas locks this week at work. this is what this panic is doing to people. they are going back to stealing gas from cars again which means we go back to locking our tanks again. watching and reading about the gas situation its hard not to panic. i even have to urge to go top my tank off and i will. i'm only doing it because my husband got paid and thats what we always do. to me this is about history repeating its self again like it did in the 80's i believe maybe even the 70's,overall it was a bad experience at that time.

Even though the Governor killed the state taxes on gas here, we have not seen much relief. Gas is still hovering around $2.99/gal to $3.35/gal. I am good because I have conserved all week long and will conserve next week. I am not driving to Orlando but will drive to Birmingham to catch a cheap SW flight. That sure does look like a good decision now, I was on the fence when I made it back in early July when gas was $2.35/gal. Now I know it was a good deal with a 27 gal tank a fill up costs me $100. Good luck to all the other drivers.

Here's what happened to me this weekend. On Friday I drove to 4 different gas stations until I could find gas. I ended up having to buy premium and was the last gas customer at that station. All pumps were bagged after I got gas. We left for Disney after Dh got out of work. We passed by 3 different gas stations until we got to I-4. Those stations had bags over their pumps. We arrived at WDW and saw that gas was $2.99 so filled the tank, then checked in. Yesterday after check out, we topped off the tank for our drive home. Gas at WDW was down a penny to $2.98. The Hess stations on property had signs saying "We have gas". Our stations on the way home still had bags on the pumps. Guess we'll see what the week brings. I know on Fri afternoon the news showed a gas tanker arriving in Tampa at a private dock.

Let's hope they can get things back to normal.
Up here, gas still above $3.00 but no shortages whatsoever. In fact, went down this AM (to fill up lawnmower 5 gallon can) and was the only customer getting gas!!

We just got home tonight. If you can make it to exit #1 in southern GA (the extreme most southern tip on the GA/FL state line) on I-95 you can get gas for $2.57 per gallon!!! We filled up there earlier today. There were 4 different gas stations on that exit, and all at that amazing price (though last week it was the norm everywhere) Its $3.19 only 2 exits later in FL, and $2.81 the next exit north. Gas here in NC varies from about $2.88 - $2.99.
