A few weeks ago when I was new to this board I posted that I couldn't believe how mean people can be to each other and that I was leaving.

with encouragement - I obviously stayed and really enjoy the boards but we all know that some posts can get ugly.

Now another DISer wants to leave and I think that we should all encourage her to stay and try to be more respectful in our posts!!

This is a political season and we are going to disagree on issues but that doesn't mean we have to be hateful.

I worked on Capitol Hill and saw more civil debates among the top republicans and democrats than I see here - what you see on TV is theatrics - trust me at the end of the day - we all went to the same bar!

We all want the same things for this country - we just think our way is better.

Do you remember the pit you had in your stomach on 9/11 - we all had the same pit in our stomach's - at the end of the day we all care about the same things - let's try to care more about each other!

I totally agree. Thank you for standing up and speaking out.

Some people like to hide behind their computers and be mean...that's life on a BB - sorry, but it's true.

Some people like to make grand exits (not saying that happened this time). If you really want to leave, then you leave.

People should realize their comments may get other comments -that's why they post to begin with. They may not always like the answers.

That much being said, I agree people should be nicer. I hate BB Bullies

They really need to bring the Political--er--the Debate board back.

I am trying to stay out of it, but it is hard.

Actually, LAZ, I think you're right. The debate forum really provided a place for people who wanted to engage in , well, debates, to do so. And te meak did not survive there. ut it wasn't on the community board.

I have a rule of thumb... if I see something that I disagree with, I just don't post. I read it and move on! That way I don't say anything that is going to come over the wrong way.

I agree that there is ALOT of unnecessary harshness and I surely don't want to be the cause of anything that could hurt someone else.

Maybe others should think the way I do? :)

Quote from Bambi that I tell my kids (almost) daily:

Thumper "If ya can't say something nice, then don't say anything at all"

Someone commented that the CB had turned into the Debate Board. In some way, I agree. I think that the political threads and other debate threads are fine but it seems like any thread can turn into a debate nowadays.

ITA! I've only been posting for a few months, but I've "lurked" for about 2 years now. I've noticed lately how some threads turn ugly....and these are threads on the theme park boards or the resort boards. Yikes! :earseek:

It's okay to disagree, I just don't like to see people attacking each other......

Thanks for posting this, Julia & Nick's Mom! :wave2:

Some people like to hide behind usernames on the internet and say whatever they think, whenever they want to. It's happened on every single bulletin board I post on. It's ridiculous that grown adults can't have more tact than to show some manners even when being anonymous but it's true... In a way, they make me sad... they must be really miserable IRL to come online to build their self-esteem up. You know?

Wish they'd find another board to harass people on.

Something that I have noticed latetly... it is the NEW members who are being rude... and what gets me is... they are rude, nasty and cause alot of pain and heartache and then we never see them again. Like they came here JUST to be a pain. Anyone else notice this?

Some times there are posters who just irritate the heck out of everyone. The poster is totally clueless and just doesn't get it. The poster keeps bringing up the same subject(s) over and over and over. It gets old. You'll understand soon.

For the most part, just about everyone is "nice" here, but after awhile you will notice the posts which irritate everyone.

Panther, I think the problem is that those "NEW" posters are mostly old posters who got banned for being nasty and argumentive (surprise, surprise!).

Ever notice how many of them are well-versed in the "history" of other posters? They didn't learn that stuff overnight; these are people who have been coming here to make trouble for years.

And for reasons I can't explain, certain internet providers (AOL for one) give their customers "scrolling" IP addresses. When someone has one of those in their computer account, it's very difficult to ban them permanently.

The sad fact of the matter is that these kind of people infiltrate almost every big public BB eventually.

We have two choices in dealing with them. We can ignore them--hey, it's no fun to argue with someone who doesn't argue back.

Or we can support each other by being kind on threads where we see it happening.

DAH, didn't cross my mind as I would never think of doing that, but then again... I would never get banned!!! Hope not anyways!

Ok, anyways, I am all for the IGNORING and the SUPPORTING and being NICE! :sunny:

It's a shame we have DISboard terrorists. It seems that some people just can't stand to see others getting along and enjoying Disney PD. I for one hate to read the terrorist posts, I try to back out of them whenever I realize it has turned into a hate debate. I much prefer to read the happy, supportative, friendly posts. I vow to keep a positive attitude when posting on these DISboards. Thanks to all who also try to stick to that same idea.

Actually, as mean as some can be here, these boards are MUCH nicer than another one I used to post on.

It was a baseball card collecting board. I think that 90% of the posters were male, many were young. And they were VERY mean to each other. If they disagreed, it would become name calling, and questioning each other's sexuality. There was one guy there who created a whole fantasy life for himself and wouldn't back down when the others called him on it. I don't even read those boards anymore, it just got too mean.

At least here, most of the threads are pleasant. People ask questions, get quick answers. People need support, they get it. People share a funny thing that happens in their life. I agree that many of the political threads get mean. But I love reading them! I never post there, however. I don't have thick skin so I know I'd get insulted when my opinion was trashed.

But if people leave, that's their business. I won't waste time telling them to stay.

I don't know if computers make people "hide'. I think sometimes it makes them speak their true opinions in a blunt, bold way that they wouldn't in real life. As to whose leaving...I don't know. But some people on this board also like to be the center of attention and get upset when they are not, or when someone disagrees with them, or (gasp) posts something about themselves that they don't want to hear. What kills me, is when people are blunt, they are hounded, chased, and attacked, but it is okay, because the people attacking them are "defending" someone who is popular. If I post something that is blunt and direct, and yes, mean, it does not mean that I am insecure, childish, or have deep mental problems. It means I am speaking my opinion that I maybe would not do face to face. If someone wants to make a grand exit, let em go, I say.

That's for sure. If they stuck to their debating threads, it wouldn't be a problem. But they're not.
