I have recently been comparing and contrasting attractions at WDW and at DL. So it makes me wonder...

What shared rides/experiences do you guys think are better in Disneyland, and which are better in Walt Disney World? A lot of attractions are shared, but most are better in one particular park.

Would love to hear you guys opinions on this. :thumbsup2

Get your Dinosaurs out of my Indiana Jones!

At DL Space Mtn, Indiana Jones, Fantasmic, Small World, Tiki Room are better. Side note PotC was closed when I was at DL

Now at WDW ToT, Winnie the Pooh are way better.

Kae, it's really no competition for Pirates. It is ten times better at DL.

The funny thing is, my younger siblings hated Space Mountain at DL. They claim WDW's is way superior. I think Disneyland has a better ride, but WDW has a better queue.

ToT is better at WDW. If you're in it just for the drops, it doesn't really matter. You might even prefer CA's because it's shorter. But for story and my overall enjoyability factor, WDW wins.

I'll start since we recently visited WDW and are DLR regulars. When we visited WDW, we usually do not spend a lot of time in the MK. But this trip I wanted to see the ELP, Wishes and Memories in front of the castle. First, do not sit right in front of the castle for the fireworks in MK. It's a great spot to see the Magic, the Memories and You show , but you miss a lot of the fireworks :sad1: Sit to the sides. We attempted to find a spot for the ELP but gave up and walked onto Pirates (my DH's favorite ride at Disneyland). WDW's Pirates ride is sorely lacking, as my DH said as he got off, "what happened, is that it?":confused3
Plus the lighting for the attraction is much more noticeable. You can "see" the floods onto the attraction. In the Disneyland version, the floods are better hidden, you don't notice the spot shining. We also noticed that the cannon does not have (or wasn't working) the "air" vibration that the Disneyland ride has. There's more that my DH noted, all I know is I will not be able to get him on that version again.;) I do wish that they would put Philharmagic in Disneyland, love that attraction!

Splash is better at WDW but the Matterhorn at DL is better than the one at the Magic Kingdom!

My brother and I had the opposite reaction after getting off DL's Pirates for the first time. We walked out, and were silent for awhile. Then he looked me in the face, and asked me, "What happened to this beautiful attraction?"

I totally agreed with him. While we love Pirates at our home park, The Magic Kingdom, Disneyland's beats it in every aspect.

That was always a pet peeve of mine at WDW. The lights are really noticeable.

But I noticed at DL that they are indeed much more well hidden.

And Philharmagic! is definitely the best 3D show Disney has ever done.

I'd like to make a trade. Indy for Philar? :lmao:

I know a lot of people think differently, but I prefer Peter Pan at WDW, because they have a 3D view of London as you fly over it, and it seems that much more real.

Jungle Cruise is clearly better at WDW, because it didn't have a chunk cut out of it for Indiana Jones!

That being said, Pirates, TTMM and the Haunted Mansion are all better at DL. Buzz Lightyear is also better, because you can actually pull the guns out of the slots, and you can actually see where your laser is hitting! My score suffers seriously at WDW. ;)

I also like the side-by-side seating at Space Mountain at DL, rather than the 'single file' seating at WDW. And teacups... maybe it's my imagination, but I think they're faster at DL. However, I like the cover/shade at WDW.

Autopia is better than the Tomorrowland Speedway, only because of the theming. But the theming of the Tough to Be A Bug movie is better at WDW (going into the tree of Life? Awesome!).

Restaurants are generally better at WDW, although Cafe Orleans is one of my favorite Disney eateries of all. The Cinderella meals inside her castle blow away Ariel's Grotto.

I'm fairly indifferent towards Splash having a best.

I like the single seat in DL because it's easy to see the rich themeing on the left and right. I like looking out and seeing BTMRR.

In WDW I like the extra themeing except for the hopping rabbit WDI was so proud of. That need to be redone.

You had me until you mentioned one of my top 3 rides. The Haunted Mansion.

In my personal opinion, it's superior in almost every way. As I said in my trip report after coming back from Disneyland for the first time...

"The Haunted Mansion

This was a tiny bit of a disappointment admittedly. But you've gotta understand from where I'm coming from. The Haunted Mansion is my favorite Walt Disney World attraction. It's a classic. Opening day, 1971 it was there. It has a sort of...just "feeling" about it. It's hard to explain, but the mansion and I hit it off in '03 and I haven't been the same since.

I think it's partially the outside. The mansion itself. WDW's is kinda foreboding, a bit creepy looking but it makes a statement. Sorta like, "BAMM! I'm here, do you dare enter me?" But besides that, we have a much better queue. It's extremely interactive. (Not DL's fault. WDW's just got received a update to that part of the attraction.)

But inside the attraction is where it started to fall a bit flat. I think the fireplace room with the changing Master Gracey portrait is more effective then just the bland room at DL. (Where names are carved into the mirror. Seriously makes me sad people would do that sort of stuff.)

Stretching Room is pretty much the same, except instead of the roof going up, the floor goes down.

However! I do enjoy the hallway scene more. With the moving busts and the changing portraits. Along with the the actual boarding room. (So much cooler at DL)

But on the actual ride, I prefer ours. We have the Escher staircase room, the music room, a (slightly) better attic, our Madame Leota floats, we have the new interactive hitchhiking ghosts, etc.

So a slight disappointment, but I would still recommend it. A classic and deservedly so. But WDW has spoiled me on this one."

But besides that, I agree with you. :goodvibes

I hope you're joking...we don't have a Matterhorn. :rotfl2:

Are you sure? Joking aside I've been in the MK and overheard people say the Matterhorn is in AK. This didn't just happen once.

I would be in Disney heaven if we got a Philharmagic (probably not spelled right) here!!

I frequently hear comparisons between Everest and the Matterhorn. They're totally different rides, so I think it's not a great comparison. The only two I can think of is that,

1. They both have Yeti's. (Ours is affectionately referred to as "Disco Yeti".)

2. They're both coasters/thrill rides.

PotC and Space Mountain are definitely better at DL.

ToT is way better at WDW with the randomized drop sequences!

One of the things people rave about is Disney's Aladdin . It's a great show, not to be missed. But I think unfairly said it's Disney's best because there isn't anything close at DLR to compete with it, causing a lot of bias.

I do greatly enjoy the Lion King, Finding Nemo and Little Mermaid shows in WDW. Are any better than Aladdin? Maybe but it's hard to get past comparing them against each other. Love Finding Nemo, liked the movie, like how it's transfered onto a stage. Lion King has great costumes, it's fun watching the monkeys bounce around and Simba is there nodding his head in agreement with me right now. The special effects for the Little Mermaid are awesome.

But all of these shows are not versions of each other, all have thier own merits, and they are hard to fairly compare.
