All the sore losers' complaints are falling on deaf ears here in my house. I know that last Sunday was Seattle's first Super Bowl but I don't know how many times they've been to the playoffs so I'll just tell you this. That's the way playoff football is played. You get one game....not a series like hockey or baseball. One chance. Anyone could have an off game or injury. Crazy things happen...it's part of what makes the game so tense and exciting. Pittsburgh was sputtering in the first quarter...OK maybe the first half...but when 60 minutes was up, Steelers were on top. That's the way it is, and if you don' like it..maybe football's not your game. The Steelers won, deal with it.

Bad calls unfortunately part of it too. It's how your team reacts to it when it comes (and it will come) that determines the outcome. I can't tell you how many times I sat and watched the Steelers get "robbed" of a victory.

Like the game when Bill Cower shoved a picture of the the scrimmage line of 11 Steelers when they were called for having too many men on the field into the referee's pocket??? I realize the refs are part timers and very knowledgable but my six year old can count to 11!

Or the botched coin flip. In overtime...the winners can easily be decided on who get possession of the ball first. You win the coin flip...you win the game!!! Bettis said heads!!! You could hear him!! Do Seattle fans ever wonder why they suddenly change the way coins are flipped? Coins are called heads or tails before it's even thrown in the air because of that fiasco.

Do you remember when the team (can't remember who they were...I want to say New England) missed field goal but because a Steeler accidently knocked into him, was called for "roughing the kicker" and they got to rekick and won the game??? Oh my word...that game hurt.

And the Polamalu interception. Good grief...how can a ref study the replay over and over and still get it wrong! They admitted that was a mistake. Did you see Polamalu's reaction when the ref reversed the call. He shook his head, put his helmet on. And went right back to work.

They shook it off and kept playing. THAT'S class. That's a champion.

The Steelers had tough losses this year, mainly due to injuries to key players.....just part of football. They entered into the playoffs in a difficult situation with their backs against the wall and they overcame it. They overcame bad calls, being the sixth seed, being on the road. They took the card that was dealt to them and won anyway. I'm so proud to be a Steeler fan this year. I only wished that they could have done it by beating New England. After watching them beat us on our own turf to get into the Super Bowl..it would have been sweet to beat them.

So all the people crying and whining about the play calling in the game. Stick around, shake it off, get used to it....it's what playoff football is made of.

There....I said my peace. Now I will keep on celebrating!!

What SHE said! :teeth:
Hey, how about our post-game celebration in Pittsburgh? not ONE SINGLE arrest was made after the game or during or after the parade!!! Now that is what i call a city with class!!! How many cities can say ZERO arrests after their team wins? i bet not too many, if any at all. :thumbsup2

That might be the most fantastic piece I've ever read on playoff football. I've been on the other end of it. Unless they're playing the Steelers (and even then sometimes... don't kill me :rotfl: ) I bleed Silver and Black. Don't know why, but the Raiders have a big chunk of my heart. To watch the "tuck rule" incident rob us of that game, and to watch the Steelers games you mentioned (all of which were excellent examples, by the way)..... sometimes bad calls kill you. Sometimes you overcome them. Usually, the better team overcomes them.

Not to mention that they were mostly deemed correct.

Either way, your point struck well here. It's HOW you pick yourself up and move on that really matters. I don't believe the Steelers victory in Superbowl XL will "go down in history as tainted". I agree that they overcame all odds to win, and THAT is what will be remembered.

Thanks for your post! :goodvibes

Wow... that was a fantastic post. I couldn't have said it better. I tried on another thread and failed miserably. Thanks for taking the words out of my mouth!

I can finally say it...
Here We Go Steelers... Here We Go!
I was afraid to say anything before the Superbowl for fear that I would jinx them. (I had Steelers logos etc. in my Signature on the boards last year and they lost the AFC Championship game.) I swore if they made it to the Championship game this year, I would keep quiet till it was over.
I guess I am safe now!!!:cheer2:

EXCELLENT!

You missed one though....the extra 52 seconds that were put on the clock in the New England - Pittsburgh game - which DID affect the outcome of the game. New England scored a last minute field goal to win.

How did the Steeler's organization react? I pulled an excerpt from an article about it here. The bolding is mine:

The mistake caused the final quarter to last 15 minutes, 52 seconds, extra time that proved invaluable to New England after the Steelers tied it at 20 on Roethlisberger's 4-yard touchdown pass to Hines Ward with 1:21 remaining.

After New England got the ball at its 38, Tom Brady needed only 31 seconds to complete passes of 17, 14 and 6 yards to set up Vinatieri's third field goal of the game. Forty-five seconds ran off between the time Brady found David Givens for 6 yards to the Steelers 25 and Vinatieri kicked the decisive field goal.

Steelers president Dan Rooney was unaware of the mistake until being alerted Monday by reporters.

''There's nothing to say. The game's over,'' Rooney said. ''It's not going to change the score.''
Now, that's good sportsmanship!

THANKS for a Great Post! I'm going to print it out and hang it up so I can
respond intelligently if the topic comes up. Lots of Happy Steeler Fans around here though, I'm happy to report. I still can't believe it! Thanks!

It feels like a dream. Like I'm going to wake up and its not real..

Don't know if anyone else feels this way, but its kind of a let-down now. OK its over, we're the World Champs, go on with your life. Seems like somethimg else should happen. Don't know what, but there was so much hype for 2 weeks, now its over.

I totally know what you mean...the 2 weeks was like the longest of my life and then it was over. Like you say, it's like waiting for Christmas and then it's oever ...now what? I already can't wait for next fall.

I know what you mean. Yesterday I took down the decorations in my office. In Pittsburgh, an office decked out in black and gold is pretty commonplace during the playoffs, but here in Richmond, I was one of a kind. I was so sad that it was over.

I did print out my "World Champions" cheer card though from the Post-Gazette and hung it on my door. I had to hold on to just one piece.

I totally agree w/ you and the others. I was thinking, "when should I take my decorations down?" yesterday. I'm feeling deflated as well, but I'm still on cloud 9. :cloud9:

That's why I asked if the Pro Bowl was worth watching; even if the AFC is dominated by IND players. At least we could see a pair of STEELERS playing. After that, it really will be over, right (unless the Pro bowl isn't worth watching)?

JC Penney has jumped on the band wagon. If you go on line and click w/in a department you see their STEELERS WIN w/ the Steelers logo. Here's a link to a JCP page. I'm just surprised to see a national corporation do this. I haven't seen this before. http://www4.jcpenney.com/jcp/products.aspx?CatTyp=DEP&DeptID=11848&PCatID=28735&CatID=29625&ItemTyp=P&GrpTyp=PRD&ItemID=0e05663&RefPageName=CategoryAll%252Easpx&RefDeptID=11848&RefCatID=28735&cmAMS_T=U3&cmAMS_C=C1&CmCatId=EXTERNAL|28735

Thank you to everyone who replied to my post. :thanks: I can't believe I didn't get a single email regarding reply to this thread. I thought maybe I killed it! I'm glad I came back to re-read it and see all your remarks. I guess I was so tired of hearing people raining on my parade. And the "Pittspuke" remark after everything the Steelers overcame was really uncalled for.

After the game, I went out to Kaufmanns to get championship teeshirts and hats. The behavior of everyone out on the streets was nothing but CLASS!

They shook it off and kept playing. THAT'S class. That's a champion.

And that post, and many others posts by Steeler fans, lacks all of that.

BTW: After the bad call most of the Steeler bench, including Cowher, was crying, whining, and basically acting the same way anybody would when a call that bad is made.
