Lets get to know each other thread!

I'm lucky enough to have lived in Florida since I was four years old, and I love everything Florida—especially the beach (I’ve been dreaming about the feel of salt water on my skin—can’t wait for the weather to be warm enough to swim!), Disney World, St. Augustine, and kayaking any navigable water.

I live in an amazing modern house (most friends have described it as a tree house, but it’s been called everything from a bird house to a space ship to “the weirdest house I’ve ever seen”) that was built in 1970 by someone who must have been a pretty wild architect—it would not have been my first choice of architectural styles, but we bought it for the location (right in the middle of town in a popular university neighborhood) and the lot (wooded, almost an acre with a little creek bordering the back of the property). I love to pan for prehistoric sharks teeth and other fossils, which are plentiful in the creek.

DH and I have been together for 20 years and married for 10 of those. Together, we like to do all the Florida things I mentioned above, plus we love to eat out (I’m vegetarian, DH is not, so it gets interesting!), listen to live music, and play with our animals (cat and dog, both rescues).

We have a great local music scene and DH plays the mandolin, guitar, and banjo, so we are acquainted with many local roots music fans (bluegrass, blues, folk, etc.). Nickel Creek is my favorite group (not that they are local—I wish!).

I work professionally in health care (two different licenses) plus I buy and sell out-of-print books and ephemera on Amazon and occasionally Ebay. I love yard sales and estate sales, and my shift work (three 12 hour shifts per week, so I always have a 4-day weekend) allows me time to poke around at sales. I do a fair amount of volunteer work and have been active in the movement for single-payer, universal health care insurance. I’m a huge mystery novel fan and I’m hooked on several series: Carlotta Carlyle (written by Linda Barnes), V.I. Warshawski (written by Sara Paretsky), and Kinsey Milhone (written by Sue Grafton), among others.

DH and I are blissfully childfree but many of our friends over the years have had children—I love kids but didn’t want any of my own. I just turned (gulp!) 50 this year but feel at least 15 years younger!

:wave2:

My name is Meloney, I'm 22 and have a DD2 (TERRIBLE 2) and a wonderful DH. We've been together since I was 15 and he was 16. We met while be both worked at the Philadelphia Zoo (I swear one of the best jobs ever!). My family consists of us, my mom who was diagnosed in 2003 with ALS, 3 aunts, 5 uncles, and many cousins. I never met my father because he was a guy who my mom met while on vacation in Hawaii, had a fling with, and found out she was pregnant by after she had come back to Philadelphia. She said that he was the last guy she had "been" with before she found out she was pregnant and anyone before that happened to far away for it to be that person (she was 18 at the time). She was floored when she found out, she felt embarrassed and ashamed of herself. She didn't believe in abortions and she never told him because she figured that he would never believe her nor care. So she kept it to herself. It doesn't really bother me much. My uncles have been a very strong support system in my life, so much so that I can't really remember even wanting a dad. I've always had a positive male figure in my life. I just wanted to know of my dad was cute or not  .

Anyway, back to me, I like to travel, especially to Disney World (I'm currently trying to figure out how to get back there in 2007, LOL). I go to Atlantic City alot because I like the atmosphere and I like slot machines :) ....but I definitely don't need to call that 1-800-gambling number.... yet....DH and I love to eat out and are known to drive 20 miles or more just to try a restaurant that we've heard so much about. I'll find them online, find the closest one to get to and we're off! I currently work at home taking calls for various companies and I sometimes promote parties and host them on the weekends. There's one tonight for Allen Iverson.

I don't smoke, I do drink and I have a potty mouth  . My favorite restaurants are Romano's Macaroni Grill, Outback Steakhouse, and Famous Dave's barbecue. I'm a Leo and my favorite colors are red, orange, and gray. I love to cook and am a stickler for any new Todd English or Wolfgang Puck gadget from HSN :teeth: . You know how they have NA and AA?...well I should be in SA for shopping. I'll admit. I'm Meloney and I'm a shopaholic :) .

I love to read and I get mad when someone sees me reading, interrupts me and asks me what it is that I'm reading and how it is. I get so engrossed in books, you don't want to see me when I get interrupted :furious: :teeth: .... I like Christmas movies and movies that have anything to do with vacationing. I got National Lampoon covered :thumbsup2 . I'm a neat freak and a germaphobe. I only get on the computer to work, DIS, and play SIMS....I like to do a lot and put an emphasis on traveling because I'd hate to die or be paralyzed or something wondering what the heck I have missed out on. I do it for my mom, who wishes she could do everything I can, but unfortunately can hardly walk or feed herself and is usually confined to the house. She gets cared for by me and when I'm not there, someone else in the family. She always has someone around. She lives through me so I want to make sure I live it up.

ETA: Oh yea, and my favorite tv shows are Heroes, CSI (the original), Laguna Beach, TwentyFourSeven, Real World, Golden Girls, The First 48, Dog The Bounty Hunter, and The Bad Girls Club.

AND I like Victorias Secret undergarments, Ralph Lauren clothing (I'm really preppy...I just love it...I was told that if I were ANY female actress, I would be Reese Witherspoon, just based on style), and Juicy handbags.....LOL...okay, do you think you know enough now? :goodvibes

melonyb21, we have a lot in common. I, too, have a potty mouth, like Victoria's Secret undies and kill threads!

Let's see.

I'm 37 (I think. I always have to do the math). I'll be 38 on Christmas day. But in my mind, I'll be 12 forever. Which means my DS will soon be older than me!

My BFF is my hubby, Sean. He is one of those genuinely good people. I swear I don't deserve him!

I have a 10yo son, Will. He's hooked on VMK. And I'm OK with that. He is thrilled to have a mom who's addicted to WDW. DH just doesn't get it though, so our best trips are just Will and me.

I have a degree in English. Used to teach high school. But I have moved on. Sadly, I just wasn't making enough money teaching. Now I'm in advertising, and I hate about 80% of my job duties :sad2: . I love being in the office and being with my girlfriends/co-workers.
I long to start a real estate investing business with my Dad. I'd really kick butt at it. My plan is to stay at my job for another year and save, save, save. (allowing for May's WDW trip of course!) And then start the biz. We'll see.

I'm really a shy person (and I have the Xanax to prove it), but you'd never know it. I suppose I'm a good actress, cause if you just met me you'd think I'm very outgoing. I am a real hoot with my friends and family. Just not comfortable with strangers.

My parents live here in town. So does my grandmother. My sister and her 2 kids moved in with us for a couple of months earlier this year when she'd finally had enough of her wretched husband. She got a job here and set up a nice home for her and the kids. Everything was looking great. And then she took the loser back. I swear I just don't understand her. He threatened to kill all of us, and she takes him back. :confused3 I've told her that I will never set foot in her house as long as he's around, and now we rarely talk. Even though she lives 5 miles from me. Sad really.

I don't believe in coincidence. I believe everything happens for a reason. Whether it's by divine design or some other force.

My free time is in large part dedicated to hanging out with DS and DISing. I ensure that I have free time by having a housekeeper twice a week. That's my wisest investment to date! I can play in a cardboard fort on a Sunday night without feeling guilty about the laundry that's piled up in the laundry room cause I know it will be taken care of by the laundry fairy while I'm at work tomorrow. And speaking of the cardboard fort, that's where I'm headed now...

I am 40 and have been married to a wonderful guy who is 49 for the past 19 years. We have 2 kids - DS is 17 and a Jr. in High School, DD is 8 and in 2nd grade.

I grew up in San Jose, Ca. I moved to Los Angeles with DH shortly after we met in San Jose where he came to escape his Mothers death after college. We lived there for 7 years then he took a job here in Reno and here is where we will probably stay. My DH is the oldest of 5 and grew up in New Hampshire. He is not close to most of his siblings but we do try to see his Dad and Step Mom every few years. His entire family remains in New England and my In Laws winter in Florida.

I have one brother who is 8.5 months older than me due to his being adopted. My brother and I are very close although he tends to be a little manic/depressive and drinks too much. He married for the first time last year and I love my SIL, she is the most awesome woman. I am hoping they make me an Aunt soon. My mother has suffered from from mental illness my whole life although she was never treated. Just last week after a 5 year battle with her and the mental health system I was able to obtain guardianship and move her into a Dementia care residential home. My father had a complete sex change about 10 years ago and our relationship is strained at best.

I work full time as an Accouting/HR Mngr. for a Mfg/Const. company. I work 6 miles from home and love the short commute. My DH is an engineer for the worlds largest gaming systems manufacturer. He is an introverted nerd and I am an outgoing technically handicapped control freak. We make a great combo. My best friend lives next door. I know lots of people but I have 2 really close friends.

I am very active in community organizations and the kid's schools. I am also an active Booster member and have come to love high school football and mourn the end of the season every year.

My DS and I are extremely close and I dread the day another woman comes into his life and steals him from me. ;) I am very proud of the young man he has become and am secretly hoping he goes to the local University for the first couple of years at least so he can live at home.

My DD is the dream child. She was the baby that never cried, slept all the time and remains very kind, thoughtful and compliant. I am still wondering when this will wear off.

I am an avid reader, and love to play Scrabble. We enjoy camping and rent a cabin in ClearLake, Ca where we relax and float for a week every summer. We usually make DL every other year and didn't discover WDW until 1999 when we went to celebrate the Millenium New Years with my DH's family. We love long weekends to SFO, Portland, Seattle and central California.

I love Country music. I watch all the CSI shows, am still an avid ER fan, Survivor and Amazing Race are the only reality shows I like. I discovered Criminal Minds and am now addicted to that. Loved the new shows Jericho and Heroes and we all miss Alias....

And if you can't tell by now, I am a little long winded..........
