Let's Discuss Dumplings

I've never had chicken and dumplings!
It's a pretty "down-home" dish with rural roots. If you grew up in an ethnic household or with parents who "convenience-cooked", it's likely you would never have tried them. I know a few people with Moms who weren't great in the kitchen and they mostly ate stuff that came out of cans and boxes. I know a few more from immigrant families that ate fabulous, exotic dishes but never had simple stuff like bacon & eggs or grilled cheese sandwiches until they were out on their own. :wave2::jumping2:

Dumplings are one of my husbands favorite foods...and I never, ever make them! Never crosses my mind since we never had them growing up.

We much prefer the light, airy ones.

I've never had them either. My household was definitely not "convenience-cooked" and I wouldn't really call it ethnic (unless Canadian is ethnic :duck:). Just not really a "thing" here. Actually, I opened this thread assuming that it was about Chinese Dumplings :guilty:

Or I simply grew up in an area (Jersey shore) where they weren't common. Your contradictory explanation is hysterical, though.

I think the world is big enough that a lot of things one thinks are unique to a certain regional culture are actually quite similar to cultures we consider "ethnic'. That kind of flour dumpling is actually pretty similar to matzo balls or even Chinese flour dumplings.
