Happy Tuesday, everyone!!!

I hope that you all had a good weekend. Mine was very productive and I actually got laundry done and the kitchen and family room picked up and looking decent. Long time since that's happened.

I spent yesterday helping DD move stuff out of her storage space and into her new duplex. It's a cute place, but the carpet stinks to high heaven. I don't know if it's a mold issue or a dog urine issue, but we (the other two sets of parents) and me are trying to work on the issue to get it resolved. I had to leave earlier yesterday than I wanted to and left the other two moms to work it out. I have a text message in to DD to find out what's going on, so we'll see later today what the status is.

We love DD's roommates. It's a girl and a guy. The girl is DD's best friend and she is fantastic. The guy is also great - extremely smart and outgoing. I think they're going to have a fantastic year together.

DS is starting to pull things together. Right now, he's working on the book list to see if we can get some of them cheaper online. The bookstores really gouge you here!!!! His last day of work is Wednesday, and then he and I will kick it into high gear to make sure he has what he needs. Things are more than slightly crazy here.

Well, gotta get back to work but I thought I'd drop you a line to let you know I'm still alive. Sheila, I hope things are doing well on the health front - I thought of you this weekend. Melissa, I hope you're getting everything together with no stress (yeah, right). Still no word from the future roommate?

Good news on the apartment front. They replaced the stinky carpeting with laminate wood flooring, replaced both the front and rear doors, replaced the dishwasher, and gave the kids those peel and stick tiles to put down over a very old and damaged kitchen floor. It will be so nice I will want to move in!!

Glad you had fun at the lake. Sorry about the work stacks - been there, done that. Also glad that the roommate has surfaced!!!

I'm adjusting to my new work situation. There has been so much turmoil that I can't even begin to list it all. We've had numerous people lose their jobs, we suddenly have NO money, and things are not going well. Nonetheless, I'll make it (don't have much choice, do I? ).

I agree. At first, there was a little bit of my conservative nature that was taken aback when she told us of their plans to room together, but after thinking about it, I am happy. He is a very smart kid, already been accepted to the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He doesn't know if he will attend yet, though.

I think they will. DD has a bigger bedroom than the last place, as well as more living space. More room to spread out! Still only one bathroom, but they'll have to learn to deal with it!!

Yeah, it sounds kind of strange to tell people that you're disappointed when the tests come back normal, but we need to find out what's causing this problem.

That was my thought as well, "Darn, they came back NORMAL?!? So what does that mean?"

It has been a disaster of epic proportions thus far...

Sorta like you're in one of those 70's "disaster movies".

We had discussed going out this weekend, but I've been so stressed and discouraged this week that I haven't done anything at home, so I'm going to force myself to make a dent in the huge pile of laundry that's waiting in the bedroom.

Fortunately I did a lot of laundry last weekend, so I don't much this weekend. But that stuff never goes away!!! Just like doing the dishes!!

That was my thought as well, "Darn, they came back NORMAL?!? So what does that mean?"

That means the doctor hasn't got a clue what's causing her problem (known as autonomic insufficiency - in other words, her body isn't regulating her blood pressure the way it's supposed to) and that we're being sent to someone who specializes in what's happening with her (but they wouldn't have taken her without all of the other tests having been performed first - you can only get in through your doctor).

Sorta like you're in one of those 70's "disaster movies".

Feels like it too. You know how there's just one disaster after another one? Same here!

Fortunately I did a lot of laundry last weekend, so I don't much this weekend. But that stuff never goes away!!! Just like doing the dishes!!

Thank goodness for dishwashers!



DD has recently taken up canning. She LOVES pickled okra, and it's not cheap at the store, so she decided to take advantage of her daddy's garden. I cannot begin to tell you how sick I am of smelling vinegar!

Happy Tuesday to everyone!!!

Well, the house is a mess around here as DS has taken over the downstairs as he has "staging areas" throughout. We went to Wal-Mart on Sunday morning and spent big bucks on shampoo, body wash, shaving cream, and other boy stuff. I am headed to either Best Buy or Staples after work today to buy a small printer for him. We are pretty close to having everything that he needs, save for a few items like an umbrella, some cologne, and a few snack items. Good thing - I'm financially depleted!!!

Melissa, I know that you're in the same boat. I am getting increasingly sadder as Thursday approaches, but I haven't cried yet. I will on that day, though - no question about it.

Sheila, has your DD gone to Vanderbilt for her tests yet? Any results? I hope that you're adjusting to all of your back to school stuff and that things are starting to calm down some!!

I no longer have a fax or phone due to "budget cuts". Please keep in mind that e-rate pays 90% of the bill, so the service only cost us 10% of the actual cost. BUT, he still wants me to continue with some of what I used to do (using the fax machine in the school office).

I sent him written notification that I would continue to do so only with the understanding that I was not responsible for any breach of security regarding employees' personal information (including SSNs) since the office fax is not in a secure location. I would hate for anybody to have a problem, but it would sure serve him right.

Haven't heard from Vanderbilt yet. DD's doctor has to submit her records for evaluation and then they call him back. He told us that it usually takes a year to get an appt. We're hoping we get lucky and do better than that.



My thoughts are with ya'll with the boys starting college. I hope everything goes smoothly. DD's classes start Monday. We're going to hate to see her go.

I'm glad that you're liking the librarian job - at least there's a silver lining to all of this mess. With the cost of gas, all of us really DO have to consider how far away from our homes we want (or can afford) to drive each day to work! I am fortunate in that I only have to go in to the office on Fridays. Helps us out.

I'm glad that you're enjoying my New York trip vicariously. I do the same thing when I know someone is going somewhere fun!!

I hope and pray the same thing goes for your DD. At this point, late December would be good, she will be on break from school. We too hit Wal-Mart with DS over the weekend for office supplies and toiletries, then I found a locking footlocker at Bed, Bath & Beyond and we got all the necessary cables, flash drives and writable disks at BestBuy. I too am tapped out!

I'm glad your DS is on top of his packing, my DS has done NOTHING! Are we surprised I washed all his new bedding and was up until 1:30 this morning getting the comforter dry. I can't sleep when the dryer is going, I worry too much. There are Wal-Mart and BB&B bags all over his bedroom, he just pushed them out of the way and went to bed last night. Brat!

When you mentioned a laptop lock was it the kind that has a cable and you secure it to the desk? We looked at it and weren't sure if that was what we were looking for DS seemed to think there was some other type

This is the new Scheels Store where DS will be working 245,000 or so SQ. FT. he went to Orientation and got a tour yesterday. They are building a 65' tall ferris wheel in the center It is similar to Cabelas if you have ever been to one, but it is HUGE! He is really excited. Click on Construction Photos at the top right and you can see how immense this place is going to be. DS was given 2 VIP invites for the Grand Opening "Event" that will take place on 9/27, lots of local and state hotshots are expected to be in attendance, including the Governor. I'll have to keep an eye on DH, he knows the First Lady and the Governor recently filed for divorce (very publicly) DH who is a staunch supporter of our Governor is

Well, I have to admit, I am a wreck. I am not an "emotional" person but this week is getting to me. I am all teary and it is making me a little crazy. At this point, I just want the whole thing over with. The anticipation of him leaving I feel is far worse than the actual event will be. Oh gads, here I go again. this is stupid, but I can't seem to pull myself together.

Thursday is DD's 10th B-Day - Poor thing, she is getting a little pushed aside this year. She wanted her ears pierced and I felt she was old enough, so on Saturday we went to the mall (the entire family ) and she got little Peridot birthstone earrings. She is just thrilled, she has been keeping her hair in a pony and stops in front of every mirror to check herself out

That's really what I was thinking too. That way she wouldn't have to miss any classes, and she wouldn't have to be distracted worrying about it while school was going on.

I just can't figure out the money situation. We've been cut to the bare minimum and several people have lost their jobs, and we still only wound up with about $60,000 extra after meeting budget needs (which could be wiped out pretty easily if something big goes out in the district).

He would have been in even worse shape if he had hired the friend from Memphis. Interestingly enough, he told the board that someone in Washington, D.C. was going to hire her if we didn't. Want to guess where she's still working (and it's NOT in Washington )?

DS has decided that he's finished putting together his "stuff" except for his clothes. That will happen tomorrow, I guess. He's off at the dentist now and will go see our pediatrician for the last time tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. for his last annual exam. The doc doesn't see patients over age 18. We've been with this guy for DS's entire life and he's been a really great doctor, so we will miss him. Plus, he's really good looking so I will miss the eye candy!!!!!

That's the one I was thinking of. You may want to hold off until your DS gets to campus to see if he needs it. The one we are going to use is DD's and she didn't use it much. However, the dorm next to hers had a lot of theft problems, so it was needed there.

DD has chosen Olive Garden as her restaurant of choice. DS has to work until 7 so it is going to be a later dinner but it is the only night we ALL can be there.

Yum. I love Olive Garden. We are going out after DS's doctor's appointment tomorrow night to Red Lobster for crab legs. DS loves them and could eat pounds of them.

That's really what I was thinking too. That way she wouldn't have to miss any classes, and she wouldn't have to be distracted worrying about it while school was going on.

You know, I would have thought he would at least have that much sense (what was I thinking ). I was very plain in my wording and kept a copy of it, so if anything does happen, it's his tail.

I just can't figure out the money situation. We've been cut to the bare minimum and several people have lost their jobs, and we still only wound up with about $60,000 extra after meeting budget needs (which could be wiped out pretty easily if something big goes out in the district).

Do you have some source of outside auditing? That would be interesting.
Here the schools and the Univ's are in trouble, the State is in a huge budget crisis and is cutting back on the funding. The funding generally comes from Sales Tax and gaming revenues, both have taken a huge economic hit and the State is suffering.

He would have been in even worse shape if he had hired the friend from Memphis. Interestingly enough, he told the board that someone in Washington, D.C. was going to hire her if we didn't. Want to guess where she's still working (and it's NOT in Washington )?

My goodness, that place is HUGE!!! I hope your DS has fun working there. How many hours will he be working per week?:

He will be working 2 days a week from 5-10p.m. and every other weekend.
He is excited - it is a family owned business and they kind of arrived here without all the fanfare that one would expect for an operation of it's size. When Cabela's opened last year it was a huge deal and the public was aware of just about every step of the process from the initial planning stages to the grand opening. Scheels flew in way under the local radar

I'm so sorry. DH and I have discussed the fact that this is DD's last summer at home. She'll be getting married on June 6th so that will only be about a month after she graduates.

It's pretty rough, isn't it? I mean you go through all that trouble of having them, paying for them, and putting up with them, and then when they get grown and start being fun to be around, they move out...

I had a mini melt down yesterday (okay, I know, big surprise given my current emotional state) anyway. Our house has lost almost all of it's equity, our college savings accounts have taken a huge hit due to the decline of the market as have our retirement accounts and the Univ. has dramatically increased costs due to the state budget cuts.

I am excited. And tomorrow is nail day - manicure AND pedicure. My body is in shock at the pampering!!:

DS has decided that he's finished putting together his "stuff" except for his clothes. That will happen tomorrow, I guess. He's off at the dentist now and will go see our pediatrician for the last time tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. for his last annual exam. The doc doesn't see patients over age 18. We've been with this guy for DS's entire life and he's been a really great doctor, so we will miss him. Plus, he's really good looking so I will miss the eye candy!!!!! :

DS had his final check up with his Ped last fall.......Eye Candy, you know that reminds me, when I was a teen, my Ped was a hunk!
My DS had the same ped since he was 3 when we moved here, DD still see's her, so we haven't lost that connection.
I'm not sure DS is all that worried about clothes. This morning he headed out the door in a t-shirt and underwear. I was out on the porch and asked him if he was aware he was in his underwear and he said "yeah, my shorts are in my car"

That's the one I was thinking of. You may want to hold off until your DS gets to campus to see if he needs it. The one we are going to use is DD's and she didn't use it much. However, the dorm next to hers had a lot of theft problems, so it was needed there.:

DS wanted to wait, he figures he can get the "recommended" apparatus at the student book store.

I agree - the anticipation is worse than the actual good bye. But still bring kleenex. I know I'll blubber on the way home.:
