Oh, forgot to tell you, I went back to swimming lessons last night. It went much better than the first time. I am getting a lot better at putting my face in the water (my big deal). So I am actually really looking forward to next week's lesson. The girl that teaches me is a real sweetheart. She's a year younger than DD and a year older than DS and I really like her a lot. So I'll never be Olympic-caliber but if I can at least do a decent stroke and float in the deep end without panicking, hey, that's all I want!!!
Good for you! That is great that you are back at it .

As far as the Olympics, you never know. I have read about guys who get drafted to pro sports in their 40's, I don't think an Olympic bid would be out of the question;) When is the next summer Olympics anyway? Just think you already get the altitude training............

Yeah, all I gotta do is lose about 30 pounds, weight train, watch my diet, run . . .

Forget it!!!

Morning girls:

Just popping in to say Hi

Sandy: I sacrificed a Cleveland Indian to the Biology God's last night so your DS should do much better on his test today:lmao:

Horseshowmom: Ummm, it's Friday, does that mean you have to check out? Here is a  to help with the post departure depression.;)

It is Homecoming tonight - we need a win to stay in playoff contention! Go Panthers:banana:

That's it, I got a ton of stuff to do - you all have a great weekend

Busy as well, but I also hope that everyone is doing fine and has a great weekend.

Good luck with the Homecoming game, the slumber party, and the joyful reunion with Chachi and Tigger!!

Thanks for the sacrifice, Melissa. That was one lopsided game last night!!

Just a quick check in! I got home safely (after literally being run off the road by a SUV on I-40  ) late yesterday afternoon. All pets seem to be present and accounted for. My Chihuahua is covered with fleas :scared: from spending his days out in the kennel while DH was at school. (DH swears he only spent his days out there! :rolleyes1 ) It looks like a bath is in order today (fleas HAVE to GO).

DH was really glad to have both of his girls home (I'm not sure, but it may have been so DD's cat would have somebody else to cling to! :rotfl2: ).

More teacher training today, but it should be done by 2 p.m., and I'll be free (to go home to wash the dog! :lmao: ).

Y'all have a great weekend (Melissa, I hope you survive it all! :thumbsup2 ). Sandy, you have fun too!

Like the Red Sox I survived the weekend:cheer2:

Horseshowmom:
So glad you made it home okay despite the idiot in the SUV on I-40.:scared: I am sure the animals as well as DH were glad to have you home. Fleas! Yuck, poor Chachi! First Mom is gone all week, he has to hang out in a kennel and to add insult to injury she comes home and gives him a bath - the indignity of it all! :rotfl2:

That is one advantage to living where we live, no fleas! I remember when we lived in Los Angeles, the flea problem was a royal pain for both us and the cats.

Sandy:
While your beloved Rockies were sitting around resting and hopefully getting fat and lazy:rolleyes1 my boys had a very busy sports weekend, there was lots of yelling and high 5'ing all around.
It was rumored that DS along with the HS baseball coach were found huddled around another friends cell phone in the boys bathroom at the HomeComing dance checking the Red Sox score on line. There was much hollering coming out of the boys bathroom that night! :lmao: The Baseball coach shares DS's passion for the Red Sox!

How was the 2nd Biology test??????

The Homecoming game was the most miserable thing I have ever experienced. Here in the high dessert it rarely rains and if it does it spits more than it rains. Well, there was a weather system that moved in on Friday and it was accompanied by 50-60 mph winds (higher on the ridges) and rain, not the usual mist, but a someone turned on the hose type rain. The rain would not have been so bad, but adding that wind and it was brutal. The Homecoming Princesses were trying to hold into their skirts and gave up on the tiarra's. The game really depended on who was with the wind each quarter. The kickers were getting no yardage punts. The ball would go up and we could see the wind blow it back. (This was happening all over, we saw the game highlights on the news from all over N. NV) Our kicker had some of the longest yard kicks of his career depending on which way he was kicking. Several kick-off kicks cleared the end zone, sailed over the track, over the fence and into the adjacent parking lot! It was crazy. My sleeping bag which is the saving grace in the cold/wind did a great job until the 3rd quarter when it soaked thru and started to leak. In case you are wondering we did have umbrellas but with the wind they were useless! The ball was slippery, the field was slippery and the wind just howled!

Bottom line: We won the game and earned a spot in the regional playoffs! We have one more big home game that is for the "Valley Cup" it is a trophy that was created with the school that our zoned kids attended prior to the building of our high school. Last year was the first time we brought the trophy home in 6 years and we are not ready to give it back!

DD's slumber party - Oh my gosh! Smack me over the head if I ever even speak the word slumber party again! 8 screaming, giggly, attitude infested, bossy, big mouthed, ungrateful little girls! Okay not all 8 were that, only 7 of the 8 and believe me my Princess is on her way to being “One of THOSE Girls” Brat! Got rid of them all yesterday at 10 and went back to bed. I woke up at 3:30 in the afternoon!

That is my update, back to work - super busy week............Hope you all have a great day!

Poor Chachi. I'm sure he was very glad to have his Mom back home again!! :lmao: Sorry about the run-off-the-road incident, but glad you are okay. :)

Congratulations on the football win, Melissa. I'm glad you survived the slumber party - you were a brave mom to have that many girls over!! The attitude of kids not your own is a really difficult thing to deal with - I have a hard time liking other people's kids a lot of the time. :cool1:

Congrats as well to the Red Sox, although the Rockies will be ready for them come Wednesday. DD tried to get online to get World Series tickets for a game in Denver, but it was a no-go. The demand is incredible here!!

Oh, are we forbidden to speak now that the Rocks and Sox are in the WS? ;) You can ask your DS for clarification, as I wasn't sure.

Busy as well, so back to work.

Have a great day, all. :goodvibes

That is one advantage to living where we live, no fleas! I remember when we lived in Los Angeles, the flea problem was a royal pain for both us and the cats.

There have been several articles in area newspapers concerning how bad they are this year. The last several years we've had very mild winters, and then you factor in the extremely hot and dry summer we've had. Altogether it makes for flea misery (and I use Frontline).

I feel really sorry for the girls. Do they wear formal gowns like they do here? If so, those conditions must have made for a mess. :sad2:

Of course, I also feel really, really sorry for the parents who suffered through it all! :flower3:

Bottom line: We won the game and earned a spot in the regional playoffs!

Now that was worth hanging around for!

I'm afraid that's a curse we all have to live through at least once (once is usually enough!)! :rotfl2:

DD's BF got her ring sized last week, so I don't think it's going to be too much longer now. He's got to go to Indianapolis this week for the National FFA convention (Sandy, with your background, you may be familiar with that). He's taking 11 kids on an airplane who have never flown before. The kids are pretty excited. He also has 3 chaperones to assist him with them. He's never taken teenagers on a trip before (this should be interesting! :lmao: ;) ). I suspect he'll have a whole other perspective on it than he did when he was a teenager and going on these trips! :rotfl:

How exciting. Do you think she knows that he's got the ring and will be giving it to her soon?

Yes, I am familiar with FFA. Never belonged to it, but knew some kids that did. How fun for those kids, and what a learning experience for your future son-in-law. You are right - it is VERY different to be on the "adult" side of those things!!

Well, at least you can both speak to me...
True enough. If Melissa refuses to talk to me, we'll use you as the go-between. ;)

How exciting. Do you think she knows that he's got the ring and will be giving it to her soon?

She knows he's got it. As a matter of fact, they met for dinner Friday afternoon when she was on her way home (she had to study and couldn't see him that night). He had just picked it up from having it sized. He didn't let her see it but did tell her he had it in his pocket and would be happy to relinquish possession of it. ;) (Told her that he might die in a plane crash on this FFA trip, and he would want to know that she had it. :rolleyes1 ) She asked him if he had talked to her daddy yet, he admitted that he hadn't, so she told him that it would have to stay in his pocket! :rotfl2:

She doesn't have any idea when he's going to really give it to her (he was just teasing Friday). I'm pretty sure it will be before Christmas though.

I found some old pictures of her over the weekend. She was only about 6 or 7. I can't believe how much she's grown (or that's she's all grown up now :guilty: ). I'm glad he's a good one. He really does adore her. He doesn't care whether she wears makeup or not or whether she dresses up or not. In fact, quite the opposite. :goodvibes

Y'all have a good day!

The poor animals, I just remember the misery and to see their skin literally crawling:scared:
I feel really sorry for the girls. Do they wear formal gowns like they do here? If so, those conditions must have made for a mess. :sad2:
Yes, formal although this year 3 of them were wearing knee length and one was wearing floor length, it didn't matter, the dresses were plastered to their bodies and I was thankful to realize that at least they were all wearing some sort of slips & undergarments (last year, a couple of the princesses really needed the "smoothness" that slips & panty hose offer (it was kinda scary!) so I guess this year, someone was listening to all the raunchy comments that were made last year.
I'm afraid that's a curse we all have to live through at least once (once is usually enough!)! :rotfl2:
Funny, it seems to be one of those rights of passage Mom moments (you know the kind that fellow Mom's don't warn you about! They went thru it therefore all other Moms must also to remain in the Mom Club:rolleyes1 )
DD's BF got her ring sized last week, so I don't think it's going to be too much longer now.
How exciting, any clue if he is up to something by way of unique proposal?

The attitude of kids not your own is a really difficult thing to deal with - I have a hard time liking other people's kids a lot of the time. :cool1:
While like you, I am not overly fond of others kids, I was ashamed and horrified at my own brats attitude. I told her Dad and Brother last night some of the antics and her brother said "She and I are going to have a chat, she is not going to go down that road and be one of THOSE, I have too much time invested in her":lmao: Oh she's in trouble now!
DD tried to get online to get World Series tickets for a game in Denver, but it was a no-go. The demand is incredible here!!
That is because the Red Sox fans bought them all up well in advance having no doubt of the outcome:rotfl:

So I just had to make one of those calls I hate to make.
I planned DS's OSU visit around the NV. Day Holiday, now the football team made the playoffs which means practice is on for Monday (we will be in Oregon). I called the coach, I never call the coach regarding playing, I speak with him all the time regarding food planning of some sort, but never, ever do I bring up playing.....(I refuse to be one of "those" parents)....DS was concerned that he might be penalized for missing practice. So, I call coach and remind him that we are headed to OSU and DS is going to miss practice, and that DS is very concerned. Coach responds: The College visit is very important and I know it has been scheduled for months to "avoid" him missing practice, and I know you can't reschedule ( I probably could, but I am not giving that info up just yet) "I can't put him in for the 1st play, because I have a rule about missing practice, but he will be in shortly thereafter" my 1st thought is a 4 letter word:mad: For goodness sakes the kid is visiting a college and will miss 1 practice! Then I calm down, speak with DS who is okay with it - he knows that Coach has a rule but he also knows that he is their strongest tackle and that he will play. So that is where we stand, I am going to go call SWA and see if I can get him home on Sunday without it costing me a small fortune.

Pssstttt, Sandy, you around? Had to share;) :rolleyes1

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- The Boston Red Sox are 2-1 favorites to win the World Series, according to Las Vegas sports books, but some bettors are hoping the Colorado Rockies' fairy tale continues.

"The Red Sox are favored because first of all they've been the best team in baseball all season long," said Jay Kornegay, director of the sports book at the Las Vegas Hilton.

My DS sent this to me and invite me to share:rolleyes: :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1

Disclaimer: Not copied and pasted in it's entirety :goodvibes there is more in the article (rgj.com) something about a Cinderella Story, Momentum of post season sweeps by the Rockies yada yada yada :lmao:

Good Morning, Ladies. :goodvibes

Well, let's hope Chachi is now clean and free of those pesky fleas!!

Melissa, those Vegas oddsmakers are looking at the teams on paper, not in real life. The Sox have a huge payroll with a lot of "name" players. On the other hand, the Rockies are a bring-them-up-from-the-farm-team group, sprinkled with some Latin American finds. If I were a betting person, I would probably bet on the Sox too. But I'm going with my heart, which is wrapped in purple!!!!!!!!! :cheer2:

The Rockies website crashed yesterday, just like many folks thought it would. DD tried to get tickets, but couldn't. They're reopening it again at noon today and both she and I are going to try and work a little magic and come up with some tix. Fingers crossed. :woohoo:

DS got his AP Biology test results back - a "B"!! :yay: He said that 1/3 of the class still failed THIS test, so we were very proud of DS for his accomplishment. The teacher still has some "issues" as far as I am concerned, but we'll continue to stay close by to monitor the situation.

DS is in "playing the field" mode as far as girls go - stay tuned to the ongoing soap opera!!

DD is finished with midterms and is VERY happy. She did quite well on the ones that she knows the results for, so all is good there. I don't know if you remember, but she initially refused the use of our green loveseats because they were "ugly". Well, after using pillows on the floor and having NO living room furniture, DH and I took a trip up to Boulder on Sunday and brought up 1 loveseat and another recliner that we own. :rotfl: So I guess that "ugly" is okay when you don't have anywhere else to sit!!!!

Well, back to work. Check in when you can. Have a great day, all!!! :wizard:

Heart never makes a good basis for a bet:lmao: Which is why I don't gamble, it's the only way I know

The sacrifice worked all the way around  congrats to your DS - I agree, keep an eye on that teacher

:lmao: That boy likes living dangerously!:scared:

Good Job to your DD:cool1:

:rotfl: Funny how that works - DS thought the same of Dad's Honda Accord until it was passed down to him and became his only option if he wanted his own wheels:rotfl2:

Horseshowmom:
How is your DD doing? Any more issues with the creepo?

Spent last night at Costco loading up for the team dinner we are hosting tomorrow night, then came home and made 75 PB&J sandwiches for this mornings team snack. Have I mentioned that I am really tired of cooking:rolleyes1

While working on the sandwiches Deck'ster was hanging out by the back door when we noticed the 2 raccoons that until last week I hadn't seen since Spring. We turned on the outside lights and turned off all the inside lights and watched them eat Deck'sters food. We then tossed the bread ends from the sandwiches out there and us "City" folks sat in our breakfast nook for about 1/2 hour just watching the Raccoons which were inches away on the other side of our sliding glass door. They sure are cute! Deck'ster does not seem to be bothered by them (other than they ate his midnight snack)

Well, back to work - hope you both have a great day!

Heart never makes a good basis for a bet:lmao: Which is why I don't gamble, it's the only way I know
Me too!!

Good luck:wizard: that would be so exciting to be able to go!
Thanks. I wasn't even going to try for tickets, but DH said to at least give it a chance. The website got around 9 million hits yesterday morning!!

The sacrifice worked all the way around  congrats to your DS - I agree, keep an eye on that teacher
Sacrifice MUCH appreciated!!! :thumbsup2 DS says that the teacher picks on two girls in the class that sit in the back and are friends. To help them do better on his tests, apparently they picked up AP Biology study guides at Barnes & Noble. Well, to the teacher, this is "cheating". For the life of me, I can't see HOW. There are some parents getting involved, so I'm sure this won't be the last thing we hear of!!

:lmao: That boy likes living dangerously!:scared:
Yes, he does. But at 17 you can still do this sort of stuff. When you're 30, not so much!!

:rotfl: Funny how that works - DS thought the same of Dad's Honda Accord until it was passed down to him and became his only option if he wanted his own wheels:rotfl2:
DD has become SO much more aware of the value of a dollar. It's almost funny to watch!!!

Hang in there, the season is almost over. Then you can turn into a slacker once again!!!

The raccoons sound funny. I'm surprised that Deck'ster (great name!!) didn't mind that they were around. Although what would he do to stop them? ;)

Did you ever have a "talk" with DD about the slumber party behavior? Kids!!

Back to work now . . .

Horseshowmom . . . what Melissa said . . . any word on the creepy ex-boyfriend?

Funny, it seems to be one of those rights of passage Mom moments (you know the kind that fellow Mom's don't warn you about! They went thru it therefore all other Moms must also to remain in the Mom Club:rolleyes1 )

We all just want to make sure that everybody else has to suffer the same way we did! :rotfl2:

How exciting, any clue if he is up to something by way of unique proposal?

Apparently, he's working on it. His mother said that she offered him some suggestions, and he didn't seem to interested in any of them (said they weren't "special enough" ), so she just left him to his own devices. This is going to be interesting, because while he really is a great guy, I wouldn't rank him as being extremely smooth and/or romantic! :rotfl: Well, at least he's trying!

It's like my slumber party, no one warned him ahead of time! He has to suffer thru it to stay in the Teacher Club:lmao:

He was pretty nervous about the whole thing. His mother said this morning that when he was packing he said that the last time he did this HE was the teenager! :rotfl:

While like you, I am not overly fond of others kids, I was ashamed and horrified at my own brats attitude. I told her Dad and Brother last night some of the antics and her brother said "She and I are going to have a chat, she is not going to go down that road and be one of THOSE, I have too much time invested in her":lmao: Oh she's in trouble now!

Well, as we've recently discussed concerning my own DD, it can flare up from time to time. ;) But I'm in complete agreement with your son! :thumbsup2

I know you're frustrated, but I'm glad that your son is satisfied. Hopefully, you'll be able to adjust your flight schedule, and everything will work out all right!

:thumbsup2 (It's more interesting that way anyway! :rotfl2: )

I'm with you!

DD's roommate is the DD of my first cousin. When the girl moved into the apartment last year, they bought her all new furniture (living room and bedroom furniture). This is really nice stuff too. The girls have a nice place, but I wouldn't have paid that much for it.

Considering the girls will have to move it to Jackson next year and then back again at the end of that year, I wouldn't have put that much money into it. DD has a hand me down bed (but it doesn have a nice memory foam pad to make it softer ;) :rotfl2: ).
