You know, since WHEN does the seller think it's okay to not leave feedback, until youve left yours?

Like I pay for something right away - they wait until you (apparently) dont leave them negative, and then leave yours??

I remember years ago - seller left FB upon payment, and buyer left FB upon receipt. :confused3

And there's a seller - whom I wont mention, but sells a LOT of Disney park stuff - they even have a warehouse in Orlando. They take to long to ship... like auction ended 8.8 - still NADA! :furious: And no FB either.... :sad2:

I've had a big problem with sellers not leaving feedback lately. I would say out of my last 5 items purchased I've only received feedback for one. I always pay the same the day.

that drives me crazy.....I don't get it either, my part of the transaction is done.....my part equals PAYMENT....sellers part equals receiving merchandise in a timely manner and that said merchandise is what was advertised.

oooh, I didn't realized that I too needed to vent.

HIJACK - CathrynRose, I was at my dollar store the other day and I believe they had a million of those hair things you were looking for, but I can remember the exact description of what you wanted as that thread was about 100 pages long. If you feel like it, you can PM me what you were looking for and I'd be happy to pick them up for you./end HIJACK

When I have purchased from high volume sellers, I have often not received any feedback at all, though I pay the same day and leave feedback for the seller when I receive the item.

I agree with your point. I always leave feedback when I receive payment, right after I go print out the shipping label.

But in their defense - when did it become really big? I'd say a little over a year ago when many BUYERS started making unreasonable refund requests like

"I found a loose thread sticking out of this hem on the 5 year old pair of blue jeans you just sold me for $1.50. I know you said they were used, but you didn't mention this defect. Unless you refund my money, I'm going to be forced to leave a negative feedback on your record."

You know, I love EBAY and there are still some awesome deals out there and it is still a pretty decent way to clear out your house and get some extra money, but it used to be a more reasonable experience all around.

My DH was complaining about this also the other day as he was walking me thru my first, yes first  :faint: transaction.

As a long time seller, let me chime in. In our defense, Ebay is getting progressively larger each year. Unfortunately that includes a larger proportion of, let's just say "not so nice, with perhaps a screw or two loose" people who win items and A) leave bad feedback because they don't know how, or don't bother finding out how, to resolve issues any other way B) Nasty folks who just do it. C) Do it by mistake and then don't bother to correct it D) Do it out of anger or frustration and then apologize sheepishly when they realize it was unwarranted and again, don't bother to correct it.

My policy is, if you are happy with our transaction, please leave me positive feedback and I will gladly and promptly do likewise. I do not leave feedback first anymore due to the "mistakes" that pull down my rating unfairly. No one has ever complained to me and I've had this policy for about one and a half years now. My feedback is back to 100% positive and I do not want to jepordize that just because someone had a bad day and regrets it later.

If a seller leaves positive feedback after getting payment from a buyer, he would have to *assume* all is going to go well with his part of the transaction. Sometimes, as Toby'sFriend stated, a buyer can be *very unreasonable* and retaliate with negative feedback. (There's no pleasing some people.)

If I were a seller, I'd wait till the transaction was totally complete and the buyer had left feedback for me. After all, if the feedback is negative, the transaction may not be over. You could have to refund money, replace item etc.

This is partially devil's advocate...as I don't find feedback that big a deal on Ebay, but honestly, I don't get the 'my part of the transaction is over when I pay' thing from buyers.

To me, the casual seller, not paying me is by far the least harmful thing the buyer can do. I've had a few nonpayers. I just file and relist. (btw, these non payers, who I each gave over 6 weeks to pay, are the only negative feedbacks I've given)

I use Ebay casually. The delay in income isn't a big deal at all. What is a big deal is when buyers are unreasonable after the sale. People who complain about small things and want to return items that cost me money in shipping. People who claim things never arrived and charge-back. People who use paypal protection rather than the postal insurance system.

I don't 'feedback' extort. I leave feedback either when the buyer does or when they notify me that the item has been received and it is satisfactory. On the few occasions when the item has not been satisfactory, I wait for feedback until things have been resolved. Not to extort, but because I think that this resolution is still part of the transaction.

I also consider this from the point of view of someone evaluating feedback. If someone is a pain in the neck after the sale, I want to know before I let them bid on my auction. So saving your feedback until the entire transaction is complete is a service to future sellers.

I agree with eclectics. Sorry, but I am not leaving pos feedback when you pay because I have had a few folks who then turn psycho and claim you never sent the item etc. I always have DC but am just waiting for that person who decides to post that I didn't send the item when I did. I will do all I can to work out any issues, but I want to make sure the transaction is truly completed before I leave my feedback. All I want though is a note from the buyer saying they rec'd the item and are satisfied. I don't wait until I receive the feedback on ebay itself.

I agree completely!!!

When I sell, I leave feedback when I'm paid. They did their part when they paid me. Whether or not they leave me feedback afterwards isn't an issue as far as I'm concerned (sometimes they do, sometimes they don't).

On the other hand, I WILL NOT leave feedback first when I'm the buyer. I always pay immediately with paypal. Over and over I get little notes in the package asking me to leave feedback and saying that they will then do the same. Most of the time I ignore it and don't leave feedback. When I get an email from one of them, I email back and politely explain my policy to them. So far, they've always gone ahead and left the feedback first after getting my return email (and then I leave it in return).

I understand how and why some people feel as they do that not leaving feedback first is a form of protection, I just don't agree with doing that. But, that's JMHO.

I also agree with ecletics. The first time it happened I was really shocked. Person told me they didn't leave feedback until the buyer left theirs.

After the first time I had to give into a buyer who was going to leave negative feedback despite the fact I did nothing wrong, you bet I hold back until I'm sure the transaction is complete.

Aint that the truth?!?!

I recall searching for items - and you'd actually have ZERO results...

I remember when it used to shut down so "Skippy" could do maitenance.

I swear to you - my hugest regret was not getting eBay stock AS SOON as I was on there, and it was available. Geez - my girlfriend and I were ebay'ing in early 1996!!! Foolish - foolish - foolish..... :sad2:

ETA - I also sold for a long time, and I always left it upon receipt of payment. Their part was done - whether or not they had a screw loose. JMHO.

I completely agree. The seller is rating the entire transaction, not just how fast the buyer pays. Some people will try to keep your item yet demand a refund, etc., lie abotu receiving it, whatever. You'd be surprised at what some dishonest buyers will try to do. NOT MANY. . . BUT SOME.

As an 8+ year seller on Ebay, I never leave FB until I know the buyer has gotten the item. I have even put that on my auctions so that buyers will know.

Over all, as both a buyer and seller, about 60% of the time I have people leave me feedback. Not sure why that 40% doesn't bother to just type in a few words. :confused3

One last comment. I am not a "casual" seller. This is a large part of my business and it's how the bills get paid. My feedback is VERY important to me as it has the ability to increase or decrease my business yield. Feedback is not a requirement and I don't have to leave it for anyone, nor does anyone have to leave it for me. Just because someone pays promptly does not "entitle" them to good feedback. Feedback is voluntary. It is up to the two parties to leave it, if and when they wish. If someone gets a bad taste in their mouth because of someone's feedback policy, feel free not to buy from them again, jmho.

The biggest problem IMO is the number of sellers who think four weeks is an acceptable delivery time. They get all nasty if you want to complain about how long it took.

Because of this there are many times I haven't left feedback. Leaving them something isn't worth them leaving something bad for me in return when I've done nothing wrong.

While I do see both sides of the situation and have been on both ends as well, I have put this policy in place when I sell. I have over 20 items out there that I have not received feedback for, some of which were from May. I left feedback for most of the buyers but when I realized I was not getting it in return, I too started waiting until after I received feedback. I don't know what the best solution is but it would be nice to have my score reflect my total number of sales.

I hear that... like I said, auction ended 8.8 - paid that day - here we are 8.22 and nada. :confused3

And I'd love to finally receive my item and leave a *Slow* feedback - but since nothing's been said on mine yet - Ill probably do what you do - nothing.

And again - this is a seller we all know and love. I cant beleive how long this is taking. I should have just "picked it up at the warehouse" - Ill be at WDW in 30 days.
