I can assure you you didn’t let anyone down. In fact, I’d wager a guess that you’re the only one who really cares about how many trees go up. It’s fine to have a “thing” — a hobby, a passion, an identity, an eccentricity — but it shouldn’t be a source of stress for you. It should be fun. Once it becomes work and stress, you should reevaluate. If you’re beating yourself up because you failed to live up to an arbitrary standard created by yourself, maybe it’s time to change the expectations. Like I said, I have a bunch of trees (though still fewer than you) and they’re all stored away pre-decorated. Because, if I had to decorate them each year I would never be able to keep up with it, it would be stressful, and what’s the point of ruining the Christmas season with that?
