I should probably write a trip report but instead just posting when I get a chance some random things we learned this trip. First thing learned - MAKE A ROOM REQUEST. I thought I would give up control and we were happy with our room at POP in the 60s building, back side, it was pretty quiet. However, when we moved to GF, we walked into our ground level room and looked at each other in dismay. It was on a busy walkway with lots of people walking by and it smelled musty. DH went back to the desk to request a change (we have never done that before, but then again, I always put a room request in before). We got moved to a second floor room in Conch Key but it didn't have an open balcony. It was closed in on the bottom half, so if we sat down, we couldn't see anything. Next trip, I will be my controlling self again and research and do a room request.

Just keep in mind even if you make a request you may not get what you asked. Requests are just that, there is no guarantee that your request will be met.

That kind of stinks, being in a room where the lower half of the balcony is enclosed. I wouldn't have even known that there were rooms with that type of balcony in a deluxe resort, but I guess there are. I probably would have gone back again and requested a room with a full balcony.

That's for sure! Sometimes I get my request, sometimes not but at least I'm at WDW. ;)

Okay so when are you supposed to fax in your room request? we have already requested adjoining rooms (I have 4 kids) and a crib but should I fax it right before we leave? and where would I get the Fax #?

I think it is always worth it to make a request even if the resort is unable to honor your exact request- it gives you an opportunity to present yourself as a frequent knowledgeable visitor. Let them know what is important to you: building, bed size, connecting, closeness to elevator. I usually only make one or two requests hoping that I will get one or the other ....

If you don't make a request then you are a name and room level, they don't care if you got it rack rate or discount. They are just assigning rooms probably AFTER they assign all the room requests.

yes, I agree. We have been lucky in the past to get our requests but they have been very general - I just couldn't see going back to the front desk after getting the second room with solid balcony and asking to be switched again. We had the three kids with us lugging all the stuff as well.

Faxes may get read, or they may get circular-filed. Make any requests when you make your reservation; if you've already booked, call back NOW and add any requests to your reservation... keeping in mind that the fewer and more general your requests, the more likely the resort will be able to meet them.

I always do the room request faxes. In fact a couple of years ago we did the 4 night cruise and then spent 5 days at GF. Before I left on the cruise I asked the hotel to fax my room request. I was requesting a room at GF with a view of the castle. When we arrived at GF and walked into our room we had the most amazing view of the castle. My DDs were so thrilled and we spent most of our evenings watching the fireworks from our bedroom. I say always put in a room request if you can because it doesn't hurt.

Nobody is saying don't make requests - just that many times, faxes are ignored/discarded, what with the plethora arriving in recent years.

It just makes the most sense to make requests while you are making the reservation, or calling back as soon as possible after that.
