Lesson learned. Need more days in Disney!!! Aug 2010 (NEW 1/20-COMPLETE)

I've never been to Yak and Yeti, but it sounds good! The cake I got was very yummy. I generally prefer the Chinese style mousse cake to Western style mousse cause it's more jello-y than the airy. Does that make sense?

I think I get it. Jello-y would be more solid or compact. Sound like they would both move a little if you gave them a little shake. "Watch it wiggle, See it jigggle."

Sooo.... what was the story about Sunshine Seasons?

DANICA!!!!!!!!!

Oh, you caught onto that. I also realized I forgot to tell the story, AGAIN. Ok, here it is.

On my first day, after arriving at Epcot and riding SE, we went to Sunshine Seasons for lunch/dinner/food.

We ordered the half chicken meal. When choosing sides, I wasn't sure if I could choose 2, so I asked the CM.
CM: "No, you can only get one." I look at him confused and checked the menu and it clearly said I could have
Me: "Are you sure?"
CM: "Ok fine, because you're asking so nicely, you can choose another one." Around this time, another CM came by and asked what was going on.
Me: "He told me I could only have 1 side!"
Other CM: "He's just messing with you. He's mean like that."
Me: "It's my first day here too!"

After we pick up our tray of food, I look around to find drinks, and I remember that I can get free ice water at QS places. All I could see were dispensers for drinks including water, so I went back to that same CM.
Me: "I can get free water from those dispensers right?"
CM: "No ofcourse not. You have to pay."
Me: "But I thought....."
Other CM: "Stop picking on her! Yes, it's free. You just grab a cup and tell the cashier it's water."
Me: "Stop being so mean to me!"

Of course, this whole time, Andrew's just laughing away.

I thought it was pretty cool of those CMs to joke around with us like that. It was super empty at the time we went to eat at, so we were the only ones at the chicken counter.

I love it when they joke too !!I locked my KTTK card in my room on a solo trip !!Wet to front desk where the CM very seriously told me I was the first person EVER to do that !!!:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Glad you had a Happy Birthday, Yuki! What a nice surprise! So was your Mango mousse Chinese or American?

Hahaha, I do that a lot too... people ask me if Space Mountain goes upside down, I say "Yes, five times." Then I press the button to send them off, and go "Actually, just kidding."

Hey guys! Before I reply your comments and head to bead, I just wanted to let you know that I'll be going to the annual Food and Wine Expo held in downtown Toronto tomorrow! It's how I've chosen to celebrate my birthdays for the last 3 years now. Since I turned 19, basically (the legal drinking age in my province). :cool1: I'll be taking lots of pictures to show you guys when I come back! One of my favourites from last year was frozen eggnog! They mixed eggnog with liquid nitrogen. It was very cool and VERY yummy. My first time having eggnog too! :thumbsup2

Haha, those CMs are so awesome. They really make WDW so much more enjoyable for us.

It was Chinese! I think I prefer it more cause it's not as sweet so I can have more :lovestruc

Hahahaha, AWESOME! I have a friend that's terrified of coasters that go upside down. I thin she would've wanted OFF the ride if you told her that.

Wait.....she was there when you were!

Um...it's hard to describe how eggnog tastes like.....sweet custard cream I think? You have to try it yourself

Yuki Enjoy the Foos & Wine Fest in Toronto!!!!

Thanks Rosie, I did!

Dude! I'm going there today too! Maybe we'll bump into each other :goodvibes

Oh my gosh, if I had known sooner!!! We could've met up! I was there from 2:30 to 7pm

I'm jealous even though I don't drink I do EAT!!!!!:rotfl2:

I took lots of pictures! I'll be posting an update tomorrow. I didn't go to the seminars, but I watcha some of the shows at the Food Network stage.

If I had known sooner, we could've exchanged numbers!

Hey Yuki! When are you going to post about the Food and Wine Expo?? I'm excited to see your report!

Gourmet Food and Wine Expo 2010

As promised to Jen, I shall update! This past Saturday, I went to the annual *points to title* that takes place in the Metro Toronto Convention Centre at the end of November. This is my 3rd year at the expo and I've been celebrating my birthday here.

I DID have a good time, but unfortunately, was pretty disappointed. My favourite restuarant did not have booth up and the frozen eggnog had not returned. There was a distinct lack of FOOD at this food and wine expo has compared to previous years. I found myself having seconds of the samples instead of trying everything once. The food ticket prices also seem to have gone up.

Ok, before I begin, I have to apologize for the photo quality. I took these with my super old cell phone camera and the convention space was pretty badly lit.

I learned from waiting in super long lines last year that I should arrive earlier. The expo is open from 12 noon to 10pm. Last year, I got there at around 5pm. Waited in line for 30 minutes to exchange my online ticket, then waited another 30 to get into the Expo.

This year, not only did I show up at 2:30pm, they improved the line system! Instead of lining up to get my vouchers exchanged, they just had one long line into the expo and would direct the people with online vouchers to one side to scan before letting them in. I thought this way was much more efficient.

So, we get into the expo and get our sheet of sample tickets. They look so pretty! They had this shiny sticker on it and everthing. Ok, I just realized that I failed to take a picture of it. My bad.

Every year, the expo has a theme. This year's was Flavours of Texas.
SSPX0264.jpg

The only problem was.....you really couldn't tell. There was no special themed decorations like they had for last year's theme. And you wouldn't even have known this year's theme if you didn't stumble into the little corner their booth was in.

Ok, my biggest mistake was to not take pictures until about.....an hour or so later. And even then, I forgot to take some pictures....Good thing I had seconds!

Our first sample was the bison risotto. It was something Andrew really liked from last year, so we had to get that first. As always, they have a huge line and it cost $5 for a small plate! It was good, but not $5 good.

I bought a sample of 2 scallops for $3 while he waited in line. I can't remember what type they were, but they were cooked very well.

We then wandered around the expo, looking for my favourite restaurant, Canyon Creek Chophouse's booth. Eventually, we found out they weren't there! They had amazing food at their booth last year. I even checked the online list of vendors to make sure! I guess they don't update it often.

We found a booth selling water. When you come into the expo, you're given a souvenir wine glass to bring around with you to try the drinks. They had washing stations all over the floor space. This one place was called Q water. It was supposed to be super filtered water. For $1, we could haveunlimited refills of our glass for the rest of the night! So....of course, we payed the $1. They gave us this cute little coaster napkin that we have to show to get our free refills. The water was pretty good.

SSPX0271.jpg

We made a stop at the Nickelbrook beer booth because we love their green apple beer. We saw that they had a beer float for $3!!
SSPX0276.jpg

This was VERY yummy. It was a pretty big cup too! This photo is of our 2nd cup.

M&M had a booth and I remember buying something.....OH YES! It was bacon wrapped beef with a mushroom and white wine sauce. THAT was very yummy too. They had a whole bunch of their appetizer line for sampling. This is another one of them.
SSPX0280.jpg

I know this was yummy, but not so sure what to call them. Fried hor d'oeuvres? The place had more food, but we had already eaten some before I remember to take a picture.

Ok, I'm throwing chronology out the window. I can barely remember what I ate. no, I didn't write any notes down cause my hands were busy holding food and drinks. I'm just going to go by my pictures and go from there.

Across from Q water, there was a booth that was adding liquid nitrogen to cream, similar to my frozen eggnog.

I tried the Brew-le.
SSPX0265.jpg

Here's the guy pouring in liquid nitrogen.
SSPX0266.jpg

MMMmmm, this was VERY yummy. I should've gone back for more of this. It was nice and creamy and not too sweet.
SSPX0267.jpg

There was a stand that was GIVING OUT mussels! So we snatched a cup or two...
SSPX0268.jpg

It was pretty small.....nothing really special about it. Couldn't taste the flavours so well.

Ok by this time, we had gone through all the food booths, but going through it the 2nd time, we realized we missed a few booths! Like this one and their prime rib slider.
SSPX0269.jpg

It was definitely a good amount of meat for the sample price of $5. This was heavnely. Andrew loves prime rib, so he really enjoyed this one.

At this point, Andrew was already full! Can you believe that?

Oh, I this I know why. We bought a little sausage sandwich from a pulled pork lace. It was yummy, but had a lot of bread, so that was pretty filling. We also took a seat at the Food Network stage and watched a food cooking demonstration. At the end of it, we were surprised with FREE FOOD! They came out with plates of the two dishes the cook demonstrated. Unfortunately for me, there was cilantro in it, which I'm allergic to. So I couldn't have them, but Andrew tells me the stuffed tortilla was very good.

After our prime rib slider, we visited one of our favourite places. Rodney's Oyster Shack. We bought 2 plates of 3 oysters. MMmm, we love raw oysters but never really have a chance to have them. I keep meaning to go to the restaurant every year, but it never happens.

We wandered near the front cause I knew my best friend, Anndrea,
was going to show up soon. We passed by these adorable macarons.
SSPX0273.jpg

SSPX0274.jpg

It's her favourite dessert, so I decided to try them. They were $2-3 for ONE!!! Soo pricey!

I bought the praline chocolate (right) and the peppermint (left).
SSPX0272.jpg

The praline wasn't that great. It tasted like a ferrero rocher, which I love, but it wasn't anything special. The peppermint was nice and soft and very yummy.

Anndrea shows up around this time.
SSPX0275.jpg

After I led her to the Q water and recommended some foods for them, I decided to try another of the frozen cream flavours. This one is the Tanzanian Devil. Made with Tanzanian chocolate and brownie pieces.

Here's a better picture of the liquid nitrogen.
SSPX0278.jpg

And....here's the ice cream.
SSPX0279.jpg

It looked like a pile of s**t. It wasn't that great either. It was too sweet and melted too fast.

After settling down in a nice quiet spot in the expo, the back right corner next to the cheese tasting, we went for another plate of oysters!
SSPX0281.jpg

The red sauce is White Boy sauce. It starts off a little sweet, but ends in a really nice spicy touch. The white is a horseradish sauce. That one's Andrew's favourite.

I love this sign.
SSPX0282.jpg

I also had half of a lobster tail. It was very yummy, but I don't think it was worth $5.

It was around 6pm at this time, so Andrew and I decided to just hold down the fort at our spot, while my best friend and her DBF went to try some more foods.

On our way out, I bought some macarons with my leftover tickets.
SSPX0283.jpg

The blue is a Blueberry lemon, the pink is a Rose-Lychee Raspberry, and the beige is an espresso one. I bought these home for my family to try. I took a bite of the blue one and it was SOOO GOOD. Unfortunately, I left them at home and returned to Waterloo.....so I never got to try to others. I regret it to this day.

At the expo, there was a booth about food safety, and they were handing out these apple stress balls! So we took some.
SSPX0284.jpg

In the end, we spent $80 on food tickets for the 2 of us. We didn't have as good a time as we thought we would here. I think this will be my last year here.

We left at around 7pm. We spent almost 5 hours here!

Jen, I hope you had a better time than me! If this is your first, you probably did cause you don't have the past to compare it to.

Sorry you didn't have as good as a time as your other visits. The theme sounded promising though. I'd visit Texas just to try their Mexican food. Lol. Mexican food is just so-so in NYC, surprisingly. The lychee macaron looks so yummy!

I know, I'm the worst Dis friend ever for getting soooooo behind, but I'm fianlly all caught up again!!!

Loved the two updates you did (especially the Chiiiiiiinnnnnaaaaa part and soup :lmao:) and the other updates (Halloween, bday, food and wine) and can't wait to hear more! I won't get to far behind again, I promise! Now I have to go catch up on yet another TR......
