I feel it coming on....a massive sinus infection. My throat hurts, my glands are swollen and my sinuses are throbbing. I'm going to call my ENT in the morning, and hopefully he will put me on some antibiotics and maybe prednisone to knock it out of me.

Any suggestions for getting well soon? Vitamin C? How much? Anything else? Right now I'm on Singulair, Mucinex & Flonase, but I had to stop taking my Zyrtec because I'm having allergy testing done on Oct. 19, and you have to be off of it for 2 wks prior to testing. Great timing, huh?

Wahhh, I don't wanna be sick at WDW!

Right before we left for Disneyland last month I started getting a cold and so did my son. A friend of mine told me about Airborne. They are tablets that you disolve in water. They are loaded with vitamin C and some other vitamins and herbal extracts. This stuff was devoloped by a teacher who was sick of getting sick. You take it at the first sign of a cold (although I had felt this coming on for a few days when I took it the first time and it still worked for me and my son). You can also take it before you fly in an airplane or visit someone in a hospital; anywhere germs are rampant. My friend's mother had terminal cancer and she couldn't get sick because her mom couldn't afford to get sick and her immunities were shot. For years I have taken Vitamin C, I know they say it doesn't help but it always helped lessen my sypmptoms. This on the other hand knocked it out. By the next day it was gone. I got it at a drug store but I have seen it at Wal Mart and Target. Give it a try!

Hey disneymama73, we are having the same problem. We leave in 3 days also and my dd came down with a sore throat. We are trying gargling with warm salt water, eating more fruit, tea with honey. My friend who is really into natural health told me to have her gargle with raw apple cider vinegar mixed with water. She also takes Ecinachia and she said Airborne is good too. Going out tomorrow and getting some more things so she feels better. Hope you feel better before your trip.

You have my sympathies! I hope you feel better soon.

Garlic works well for me -- it's a natural antibiotic. I take an odor-free garlic tablet once a day usually, and I've gotten sick less frequently since starting this, plus when I do get sick it doesn't seem to hit me as hard. I take it twice or three times a day if I feel something coming on; if I'm really fighting something bad I resort to lots of real garlic (ie, a couple cloves/day, on garlic bread or in soup).

With the allergy testing, usually you can't take anything that has a antihistamine in it. So, be careful w/ all over the counter products. I would call the allergist office and explain your situation. I've been through this-- they'll let you know which cold meds you can take that won't affect your testing results.

my fave is as follows:

day one:
~1 single dose 100,000 IU vitamin A (retinyl palmitate, not beta carotene)
~every 2hours: 1 20-23 mg zinc lozenge and dose of goldenseal echincea (per bottle instructions. my fave is New Chapter Cold and Flu capsules), 500 mg vitamin C (i do caps)

day two and three:
1 single dose 100,000 IU vitamin A
same as above for zinc, ech, goldenseal, and C

day four
no vitamin A
same as above for zinc, ech, goldenseal and C

day five:
just ech/goldenseal and C 3-5x per day if needed

day six:
just ech/goldenseal and C 3 or so 'x' per day if needed

Absolutely positively do not take this if pregnant or possibly preganant.

If pregnanacy is a possibility, then up to 90 mg zinc for 3-4 days and up to 3000 mg vitamin C per day (divided doses) and garlic as the herb instead of the goldenseal/echinacea.

The other advantage to eating real garlic is people with (and without) contagious conditions tend to keep more distance between themselves and you :D

Thanks for your suggestions! I forgot all about Airborne! I have seen it before, but never tried it! I will call the ENT for sure tomorrow before I take anything OTC.

SamRoc: Hope your dd feels better in time for your trip! Where are you staying? We'll be at OKW from 10/7-10/9 and then at SSR 10/9-10/10. If you see a short-haired crazy lady with glasses with 3 girls who appear to be driving her absolutely mad, that would be me! :rotfl2: We have a Peg Perego stroller with a lime green ribbon - if ya see us, please say HI!

Kaytieeldr: :rotfl2: Yes, real garlic would definitely keep people away. Good thing I love garlic! Not sure everyone else will love it though.... :)

Hey Disneymama73, thanks. Figures my dd starts getting sick right before our vacation! We are staying at Ft. Wilderness from Oct 7-11. I asked my dh to bring home some lime green Mickey heads from home depot, and he brought home purple!! I have to go tomorrow and get some. Have a fun trip!

LOL! If ya want something done right, you have to do it yourself, dontcha? I can just see my DH in Home Depot....

"Lime green....purple.....ehhh, what's the difference!"

:rotfl2:

Hope you have a wonderful trip! :)
