lesbians need not apply

All people currently have the exact same right to get married.

That's why everyone is telling you that you would feel differently if you were gay.

They don't have the right to marry the partner of their choice. They aren't covered under the FMLA if something were to happen to their life partner, and companies do not have to extend the same rights to them that they do other heterosexual workers.

It's not right.

Do you believe it is acceptable to fire people because of their sexual orientation? If you do, you are in favor of denying certain people their civil rights. Homophobia is anti-freedom and it is un-american.

First off employment is not a right civil or otherwise, it is a contract between the employer and employee. I would find it highly objectionable for a public entity to fire someone based on their sexuality. I find nothing objectionable for a religious entity for firing someone that doesn't conform to their stated code of conduct. If that code means not having a homosexual relationship then so be it.

but only some of the people have the right to marry the person they chose to marry. I think this is where the argument usually turns into people marrying livestock, pedophiles marrying children, etc.... carry on.

Yes actually they are, they are exactly equal to everyone else. Should they be granted better access to various benifits yes, but that doesn't make the current status unequal.

You don't get it, do you?

Inequality is NEVER equal.

You can make your regurgitated, talking-point arguments all day long, Master.

Enjoy the acceptance and civil rights that come along with your heterosexuality.

Right and equal are not always one and the same thing. Personally I want the governement completely out of marriage, they should sanction civil unions and leave the marriages to the churches.

No. That is not what it is. Actually, I know a lot of people who are gay and who also have children -- and they have pictures of their families on their desks at work.

QUOTE]

So a flag is a no no but a picture of my gay family is ok? hmmmm i don't see a difference. I think heterosexual people declare what they are all day everyday. It just is so commonplace that we do not see it.

I responded to a specific statement with a specific reply, I have already clarified it and no matter how much you quote, post, argue, disagree- the post remains the same and my response remains the same.

Master Mason does not understand the "whining for additional laws" because he is not gay. I can not be any more clear than that. If you want to generalize and run with it, feel free to do so but my response is going to remain the same. My suggestion would be to move along to a post you do understand.

master mason and i both live in california. i think this state has progressed significantly on this topic. it never hurts to ask questions and understand further what people deal with.

as for inviting me to "move along", i find that out of line. this wasn't a "homosexuals only" thread. it was about two teenage girls and what happened with their school. you were encouraging generalization a few posts back...now that is bad?

We agree there...only if they allow ALL adults to marry the partner of their choice - regardless of orientation.

No arguement from me on that. But you have to agree that it is currently equal, do I understand why you don't like it, absolutely, but that doesn't make it unequal.

If I were king, civil unions would be for any two consenting adults, no futher restrictions.

Wait, so a religious institution can fire me on the basis of my sexual orientation, but I can't fire a religious person on the basis of his creed. Is that the deal? NO WAY!!!!!

And you don't get it .... equal doesn't mean you like it, it just means that it is equal.

Where did I make any presumptions about you? I was just stating that you can't substitute empathy for the reality. I think you read to much in my post and took it as an attack, and that is far from what I meant.....:thumbsup2

you didn't mean "your" ? [stet]

okay. i didn't think it was an "attack"...i just thought you meant me.

If you are the employer and his religious activities violate your code of conduct, then I have no issue with you firing him as well. He would be violating the terms of your employment agreement.

I said "post" not thread. Move along from my posts and no I don't think it's out of line.

Why would a homosexual want to work for a church that believes homosexual activity is a sin? Why would a religious person want to work for a company that does not respect his faith?

Oh Master. I "get it". Most of us "get it".

The people who don't "get it" are the ones still claiming that things are equal in this country. Those are the ONLY ones who don't "get it".

Hey Master, did you just say that so we would do this?:
:worship:

What can ya do for those Christian gays who want marriage, any solution there? :smokin:

No. I do not have to agree and I don't. You have your opinion and I have mine. As I said before, your opinion would be different if you were gay.
