lesbians need not apply

i agree.

there have been homosexuals in the military forever. what has changed is that people make their sexual orientation/preference/practices a matter of public discussion and display instead of keeping those private things to themselves.

:scared: :lmao:

Ya mean like heterosexuals, they miss their loved ones too?

this is ridiculous.

a person doesn't have to be black to understand and/or feel compassion towards civil rights (which by the way aren't only about minorities).

a person doesn't have to be homosexual to understand and/or feel compassion towards the social desires of homosexuals.

a person doesn't have to transform into a dog or cat to understand and/or feel compassion for animals.

In a way I agree with you, but then again, empathy can never replace reality.

how does that change the premise? If one straight person cannot understand because they are not gay, how does that not imply that only gay people can understand.

Again-are there no straight people aligned with the cause of equal rights for gays?

No, actually there are many heterosexual folks who recognize bigotry 'n discrimination AND some of them are Christian too. :)

sorry, but this seems a bit overboard to me. there are scads of compassionate people who believe in the same things of which you are a proponent who are not homosexuals.

sorry, but I wasn't speaking to the "scads of compassionate people". I was speaking to Master Mason. I did not find anything in Master Mason's post that led me to believe he was one of the "scads of compassionate people".

No what I can't understand is whining that we need more laws when you just stated we already have such laws. Enforce the ones that exist we don't need a new law that would be ingnored just as much as the current laws.

When there are bad laws or rules such as DADT, I'm all for changing them and think it should be done.

true though, right? we simply cannot escape hearing about sex ALL THE TIME now. who needs to talk about it constantly?!?!? ew!

So it's okay as long as homosexuals don't mention their homosexuality?

:confused3

I thought we called that DADT?

i'm not actually certain what you mean by this (in the last posts either). i'm sure people miss their loved ones when they are away. i do not think discussing private matters is appropriate, ever, in the work place. if the military is a person's chosen work place, everybody should keep their traps shut about their sexual lives.

i agree.

Shouldn't we be criticizing the problems with the system rather than blaming the homosexuals because they should just keep it to themselves?

Most people don't make their "sex practices" a matter of public discussion. A homosexual relationship isn't all about sex acts, however, that seems to be the first thing that pops into the brains of people who oppose equal rights for homosexuals. On a social level, it really illustrates the ignorance and fear of the unknown when it comes to homosexuality. Same sex couples are just trying to live their lives by working, raising families, going on vacation, planning for retirement and all of the other things that most heterosexual couples are doing. The fact that a discussion of same sex marriage immediately brings a focus to how these couples have sex, it really says something about stereotypes and why personal views are depriving the LGBTQ community of equal rights.

Why not focus on the other ways that homosexuals live their lives instead of what they might do in the bedroom? :confused3

I can already do whatever I want to in my own bedroom, it's out of it that I am asking for change. :confused3

It is odd that heterosexuals assume homosexuals are all about the "sex," they reduce gays to just sex instead of realizing that gays have all the same situations, problems, concerns of heterosexuals and then on top of it, they're gay.

Ah, the luxury 'n privilege of heterosexuality, must be nice. :beach:

Seriously, are you just incapable of not generalizing?
I'm sorry you truly can not understand my posts, I can't help you.

Quoting. Because this needs to be repeated. ::yes::

i understand. i guess i realize from some of his posts in the past that he is really looking for information and sharing his thoughts. i like the guy.

:grouphug: for everybody.

And what is uncompassionate about my statement. Why do we need more laws if we already have such laws, which you stated we did?

No. Your post is laughable, that is different from being truthful.

why is it laughable? when you start a job, do you walk in and announce your sexual preferences? THAT would be laughable.

the military is a place of work.

no, but when a person has family members or friends dealing with the current initiatives, it is very easy to feel their pain.

Again, your equating feeling empathy with that person's reality, and that can never be true. I will never know what it feels like to be black, or gay, and have intolerance throw walls up around me. I can feel for those that do, but it is not even remotely close to the reality of it, and to fool yourself into thinking it does only trivializes the issue.

If you told someone you were heterosexual, could you be discharged?
