lesbians need not apply

k. interesting perspective. but the word is homosexual, which implies a hormonal emphasis.

It's more than just the sex. Otherwise, all those pop tarts in the bars kissing other girls to impress the boys would be lesbian or bi. That's not the case.

NO. It isn't. I have a company, we have a stated code of conduct. If your activites violate that code I have a right to remove you from my company. If my beliefs don't conflict with said code of conduct then there are no issues.

In many cases it is illegal.

No. That is not what it is. Actually, I know a lot of people who are gay and who also have children -- and they have pictures of their families on their desks at work.

QUOTE]

So a flag is a no no but a picture of my gay family is ok? hmmmm i don't see a difference. I think heterosexual people declare what they are all day everyday. It just is so commonplace that we do not see it.
you really do not see the difference between a family picture on the desk and a 5' x 4' rainbow flag displayed in the hallway window of an office at work? NO difference? wouldn't one be a warm-fuzzy reminder of the people you love dearly and the other an announcement of sexual preference?

Oh hush. Givin' away secrets. ;)

 Didn't mean to spill the beans! :p

I was just thinking, you know, if sex was all it was about....well, than a few of my happily married heterosexual friends from college are actually lesbians in disguise! :rotfl:

Now, don't quote me, but I do believe that the rainbow symbol is more than just focusing on the sexual side of homosexuality...more about acceptance, civil rights, and basic freedoms that all American's deserve...

But, I am not an expert on this. That is just what I've always thought when I see a rainbow flag.

it is. in the u.s., the symbol for homoxesual awareness and pride. a homosexual friend educated me about this...we were driving through west hollywood and i commented on the cheerful springtime rainbow flags. after he stopped laughing hysterically, he filled me in.

No I don't. Wedding picture and honeymoon pictures all scream "breeder" to me. Sorry.

The difference is that I don't care what people do to their offices.

It would depend upon the intention of the person who hung the flag and the type of office it was in. It could be hung by a gay person's mother, brother, sister, friend -- anybody who sympathized with the cause.

I used to have a land mines sign that my brother brought back from Bosnia (while he was doing a UN Peacekeeping Tour) hanging on my office wall. Not sure why I hung it up, but I did get a lot of questions about it.

Really?

focusing on the "wrong " thing at work Homosexuality ....

That is exactly how I read it. It is ok to be stright at work and let people know it (pictures, wedding rings etc) but not ok to be gay.

are you saying that family pictures and wedding rings exist only for heterosexuals?

if you read ALL of my posts, i said the work place isn't where sexuality should be discussed. i know plenty of homosexuals who display family photos and who EVEN wear wedding rings.

if we only read the words written, and not INTO the words written, we will understand what is being said.

I'm getting lost. I need to re-read this entire thread and figure out who is arguing for what now. I'll get back to you later. By that time, you'll probably be on page 100!
