lesbians need not apply

YOu do realize that Catholics are Christians right?

Of course, but different Christian denominations have different teachings on homosexuality.(and other things) I believe all the PP was trying to do was clarify Catholic teaching and point out that this school was not identified as Catholic but as Christian.

Our school was very different from the Catholic school my niece and nephew attend, but it was Christian.

But the Taliban is the only "game in town" over there. Not here in the US. There are TONS of alternative religious organizations people can participate in here. You don't have to go where you aren't accepted.

Sometimes you have to go there if your parents make you go there.

It is sad how some Christian churches treat homosexuals. Jesus himself, walked amongst the outcasts of society during his time on earth. Were he to come back today - I am sure he'd be walking among the oppressed, not the most devout........

Just my two cents.

Hey...good for that "Christian" school for speakin' out against the real "evils" of the world.

At least they're consistent in their message.

Hide your hate and intolerance behind religion! :thumbsup2

I agree.

The school has the right to do as they choose, not arguing that.

However I have the opinion that I think they are on the wrong track of Christianity.

Christian religions feel like "cults" to me. I no longer understand them.

I know what the pp was doing, but to bring up the Catholic religion in this thread is not moot. Christians believe homosexuality or acts of homosexuality are sins, no secret. To me it doesn't matter what type of Christian school it was, if the students broke the code of conduct, which would have clearly stated I promise not do anything against the teachings of...... , then the school has teh right to punish.

FTR. I was born and rasied Catholic, attended Catholic school my entire life, I know what they believe ;)

Oh - it wasn't a Catholic school?? Where was this school then, what state?
Wait, it was a Catholic schoo, but not a Christian school??? Sorry, the lone Jew doesn't get it!! Whats the difference?

It was a Lutheran School in Riverside California.

That is disgusting. My kids go to a private school associated with a church and I would be SO ANGRY if this happened there. Actually, what they have is a ban on any PDA by any couple on school grounds, which I think is appropriate and fair. During the prom, etc. the ban is lifted so they can hold hands, kiss, etc. but they are closely chaperoned, have to sign in and out of the building, etc. But there is no discrimination against gay or lesbian students, in fact I know of one young man who is gay at the school, what they teach the kids is that God loves EVERYONE and we are not the judge of our neighbors. And privately I teach my children that "God don't make junk" and how we are is how God wants us to be, or else he wouldn't have made us that way. I also think people who think being gay is a choice and can be cured are out of their minds, haven't they read the scientific reports???:sad2:

So one has to wonder....will this school kick out all of the sinners? :confused3

Because if they do, I doubt there will be anyone left!

Catholics believe homosexuality is a sin. You personally may not feel that way, as many other Catholics don't but the Catholic teachings say homosexuality is a wrong.

Catholics are ok if you are gay - as long as you don't act on your sexual impulses. ;)

Its beliefs like that - that drove Jim McGreevy (former NJ governor) to try so hard to be "straight."

It often doesn't work........

You are inccorect partially. The sexual act of homosexuality is a sin. Being homosexual in itself is not. The Catholic Church's stance is to welcome them in and just label any sexual act as a sin. Being is not the sin. Doing is.

This isn't surprising at all to me at all. There are tons of private religious schools (from elementary all the way up to universities) that discriminate against gay students and teachers. On the academic job market for professors they often don't even make this explicit (They aren't brave enough to just come out and say "No fags"--they'll actually string gay people along, even flying them out to campus, never making the policy explicit and then leave it to the gay person to bring it up and ask, "Um, so do you all hate me here or what? You're acting like you're going to hire me, but when you find out that my spouse is the same-sex as me are you going to take away that offer?" And the answer is "Yes we are.")

And it isn't just private schools--in over half the states in the U.S. it's completely legal for any employer to refuse to hire or to fire someone for being gay. And the federal govt (i.e. republicans in congress) has refused to add sexual orientation to existing discrimination law numerous times.

Of course, when it comes to most other kinds of discrimination--race, sex, etc.--a private school would not be able to discriminate without losing its tax-exempt status. Bob Jones University lost its tax exempt status when it banned interracial dating for religious reasons. But gays are different of course. You can discriminate against gays with the full blessing of the federal govt. No problem whatsoever.

I'm also not surprised at all that a number of people on this thread seem to be expressing no disapproval or outrage at all for what the school did. Lots of Americans find nothing at all wrong with treating gay people like crap. This is why the right to discriminate against gay people has been so well protected for so long in many conservative states and federally by the republican party.

I'm glad the girls will now be in an environment where they are not taught that they are evil. Hopefully their parents realize how stupid they were to be part of that religion and to expect that their daughters be treated as anything but lesser beings by its members. And hopefully the rest of the country will wake up and will begin to treat discrimination against glbt people in the same way that we treat discrimination on the basis of race, sex, etc.

This was a Private school and therefore allowed to be "selective"...I think it is terrible for expelling someone on these grounds...but it is a Private school.

Yup.

But it doesn't mean that we shouldn't admonish the school for such a stupid policy.......

You are all nit picking :rotfl2:
I'm pretty certain one who practices homsexuality will engage in homosexual acts, maybe I should have not worded it as I did :thumbsup2
