Les Miserables Lovers...3rd UPDATE 10/18: Movie Dates!

I meant to post this earlier this week, but I got distracted by other things. We have been listening to the 10th cd in the truck since seeing the movie. So, we're listening and Michael is singing. I, of course, make the comment that I always do about the best Marius EVER, EVER, EVER! My older D says okay I agree but he's just too old and fat now to be Marius. I could have hurt her! :rotfl: In my eyes, Michael will always be Marius; Colm is forever Valjean, and Lea is Eponine. So, I'm old I guess.

I saw the movie again last night, this time with my best friend with whom I have seen the play at least 3 times. It was so great seeing it with someone who shares such a passion for the music. It was fantastic, even better than the first time!

Surprisingly for me, "One Day More" is what I was disappointed in the most. Not so much the singing, but the filming/staging. I really missed the stage look for this one. I prefer seeing this song as a group and not the extreme close-ups. And I must admit I really missed the "stage march". :)

One Day More is my favourite song from the play, and I absolutely adored the way it was done in the movie. One thing that always bothered me was Marius, essentially, choosing the barricade over Cosette, and crossing the stage to be with the students. I thought it didn't fit at all with their love story. But in the movie it shows that Cosette is already gone, which makes so much more sense. Every time it came back to Valjean in the carriage, singing his line, I got goosebumps. Just watching him watch Cosette made me cry.

I guess I'm in the minority. I think they did a really good job but I don't think it's anywhere near Oscar caliber. Maybe Anne's its a slow year but definitely not Hugh.

Ooh, totally disagree. I think Hugh's acting was phenomenal. Anne's too, but I think Hugh was spectacular.The emotion he could convey with the tiniest glance gave me chills at times!

I know I don't post here often but I've read every single page. I am truly proud of what this amazing musical accomplished tonight, it was well deserved!

I was so excited for Hugh that I took a picture of the TV! :cool1:

Why didn't you join us on the Golden Globes thread? I was thinking of you when he won. I knew how thrilled you'd be for him. :thumbsup2

I was actually in the city tonight, seeing Annie on Broadway with my mom and sister. Just got home towards the end of the show, which I was DVR'ing. But saw the Hugh and Les Miz wins when they happened.

So happy for Hugh! :cool1:

You know Anne won, too? She gave a classy speech honoring Sally Field. :worship:

Yup, read it on Twitter on the way home. :thumbsup2

Actually, saw one of my favorite Les Mis alumni in Annie tonight: Anthony Warlow, who played Enjolras on the complete symphonic recording (I think he's played Valjean in Australia as well), plays Daddy Warbucks. It was so cool to finally see him on Broadway!

Wow, cool! It's such a small theatre world. It also must have been exciting for Warlow to be able to go all the way to Australia to do Valjean. What a way to go to that country.

He didn't have to go far - he is Australian. Annie is actually his Broadway debut!

Here's his "Do You Hear the People Sing?" from the Complete Symphonic Recording. He was Enjolras. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9902AApdyW8

I love that recording. It's the only one of the entire show - it takes up 3 CDs!

And the guy who plays Feuilly on that recording ("Will you give all you can give so that our banner may advance...") is William Solo. He played Jean Valjean the first time I saw Les Mis on Broadway.

This from Colm's Publicity FB page:

Hi All,

Colm has been nominated for a SAG award along with the rest of the Les Mis Movie Cast for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. He will be going to Los Angeles on Jan. 26th so he will be there for the ceremony on Jan. 27th at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT.The 19th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards® will be simulcast live on TNT and TBS.

Congratulations Colm!!!!

Will be watching, and I usually don't watch the awards shows.

Totally agree with all of what you said!

Did anyone ever have a chance to see Terrance Mann as Javert? We have a friend who is studying Musical Theatre at Western Carolina where Terrance is a professor.

I love him! I'm pretty sure I used to have some kind of recording with him as Javert but I can't seem to find any songs online that arent terrible quality.

You could always go with the original Broadway cast recording. He plays Javert on that version. :thumbsup2

I had that many moons ago. I think I played it so much that it finally died. I'll have to get a new copy, I think.

Also, if anyone is interested in a full soundtrack from the movie, besides the 'highlights of highlights' version that's out now, there's apparently a 48-track version in the works. Russell Crowe has been telling people to tweet the studio and the record company to get it done:

@russellcrowe
I know there has been talk of releasing the complete score and 48 tune soundtrack of #LesMis tell @UniversalPics you want it

https://twitter.com/russellcrowe/status/292937767955099648

@russellcrowe
The other people to let know you'd like to have the complete score/48 tunes of #LesMis is @RepublicRecords

https://twitter.com/russellcrowe/status/293250571178237952

@russellcrowe
A lot of you have tweeted @UniversalPics re complete score/soundtrack for #LesMis but I think you should focus on tweeting @RepublicRecords

So I guess the Republic Records twitter is the one to go after. (make up your mind, Russell! :laughing: ) But a full soundtrack would be nice, since so many songs are missing from the current one.

The soundtrack is currently the #1 album in the UK, where the movie is at it's second weekend in a row at #1 at the box office. :thumbsup2

Saw Les Miz again today for the second time, this time with my self-proclaimed Les Miz expert, DD#2, who has seen the stage production more than 100 times (approximately 30 in London and the rest when she ushered at the National Theatre in Washington DC during a national tour).

I won't critique the movie other than to say I really really liked it and will undoubtedly buy the DVD when it's available. Anything I could say has already been said by someone else, and in most cases more eloquently.

Ugadog99 is absolutely right about Michael Ball; I'd pay to hear him sing the New York City yellow pages! Unfortunately her daughter is kinda right, too. Did anyone else see him in "Aspects of Love"? Probably the best physical shape he'd ever been in (or since!).

I did! I got his autograph at the stage door after the show too. He was so nice! He looked great in that show, too.

He hosted the UK premiere of the movie (there was an awesome UK tv special that was up on YouTube, but it was taken down), and he's performing "Suddenly" on his new album. He's been raving about the movie on Twitter. :thumbsup2
