Anyone have any good experience, or bad, with them?

I went last Friday and there was a sign up that said 2 pairs of eye glasses for $99, NO EXCEPTIONS.

Of course there were exceptions, there always are. But I went in and they said only the frames on this certain wall would get you 2 pair/$99. So I spent 45 minutes picking out 2 pair and the lady said one of my pairs wouldn't work, they were more expensive and I would have to pay $40 more. OK, but you said this wall would be OK. No, there are MORE EXCEPTIONS.

Fine, I really like them and it still is cheaper than other places. So I say I want lightweight lenses. No problem, this is going to be $20 more. So I ask the lady, my bill will probably be around $160 plus tax, right? RIGHT? Of course, she says, NO EXCEPTIONS, it will be around $160 plus tax.

So I get entered into the computer and rang up when she announced it would be $203.45. HUH? She couldn't explain to me where the extra $40 came from, so I left. I hate to be taken advantage of. NO EXCEPTIONS.

yes, that was pretty much my experience with Lenscrafters. You probably got the UV protection or scratch resistent lenses also --that is why they were more expensive.

I can't comment much-but, it is still a good deal if the upgrades were for polycarbonate lenses (featherwate, featherwate plus). Several years ago, basic plastic lenses were $60/70 a pair for a low prescription--not including the frames. UV charge and tints--might have been around $15-20 for the basic plastic. Polycarbonate and hi-index plastics have UV protection qualities. A/R, the anti-reflective coating, was an additional $30 at least (2001 pricing-might have increased by now). A/R is great for picture taking and reduces the glare. Transitions are an extra cost and they don't "change" in the car well because the windshield's UV protection. I hope this explains what happened.

I haven't had any bad experiences with them and they've taken back glasses I decided I didn't like w/i the 30 day grace period w/o any hassle. If you have AAA don't forget to show your card. You'll get 30% off frames and lenses or 20% if you're getting new lenses in existing frames.

I have gone there several times in the past and never had anything like what you said. We have had the specials, but they made it perfectly clear what was allowable and what wasn't for me. I usually just go in with AAA or a coupon and get a good deal... well used to until I got better insurance. They should be able to itemize the costs... I'd go back and ask. Good deal for glasses all the same!!

Yeah, it was still a good deal, $100 for a pair of glasses, but I hated how they string you along, I asked several times if it was going to be around $160 and she said yes. Then when it was much more she couldn't tell me where those extra charges were coming from. Mostly I hated how they kept telling me there were no execptions.

I would consider writing a letter to Lens Crafters. I know that there were 2 times I went and had the same person help me who was exceptional! So I wrote a letter praising her 2 times. Each time I got a very nice personal reply back and even more coupons for my next visit. And that was just for writing in a positive reply. Not that you'll get anything out of it really, but if your store is trying to "scam" you or being dishonest like that, it's worth it to write down who helped you and what happened. Hopefully they will set them straight.

Oh and silly question, could it be that the lightweight lenses were $20ish each or per pair? That would help explain some of the cost... I think you had not such a bright person if she couldn't explain it all to you :(

I like Lenscrafters because they offer a 30% discount if you have AAA
