I am buying an Olympus DSLR in the next week or so. I have been using an advanced P&S for the past 3 years, but it was time to upgrade. :)

My question is what lenses do most of you bring for a trip to WDW? We will be going for the first time in June, and I don't want to go under-/overprepared. Any advice would be great. :) Thanks!

What lenses will you be getting? Many of the Olympus cameras come with the 2 kit lenses, 14 - 42mm & 40 - 150mm.

Both of those, but I was wondering what most people bring. If I should look into bringing an extra lens or so.

Somthing like a 50mm f/1.8 for the dark rides if you like.

I bring a Sigma 18 - 50 f/2.8, the 40 - 150 and an Oly OM 50 f/1.8 which needs an OM to 4/3 adapter.

If you want something longer which comes in handy at AK you can get the
70 - 300 or the 50 - 200 but that lens is about 3X the price of the 70 - 300

The main lens on my Olympus dslr is the 11-22. Second most used is the ZD 50mm. I've added the Sigma 30mm to my kit, haven't had a chance to use it yet.

I had the same question. I just got a canon rebel w/ the 18-55 lens and was wondering what the next versatile lens to get would be. I don't want to be carrying to much either. I was looking at the tamron 70-300 cause it was alot cheaper then the canon 70-300. But I wasn't sure if this is a good idea for that 'do all lens". Any suggestions??

My "starter" telephoto zoom is the Canon 55-250 IS. You can get a refurb one for about $40 more than the Tamron. It's worth having the IS over the extra 50mm reach, at least IMO.

I didnt even think of that...do you know if it has a macro feature because the tamron 70-300 does have that feature which I really did like?

I don't have it but I'd get the Canon 55-250mm IS too over non IS (I'm a fan of IS).

I shoot with a Canon XSi. The first year I brought the dSLR I just brought my kit lens, 18-55mm because it's all I had (I bought the camera 2 weeks before!). Second year I brought my 18-200mm as my walkaround, Sigma 30mm f/1.4 for dark rides (but actually used it for much more). I brought the kit as a backup but never used it.

This year I'll be bringing my Canon 24-105 f/4.0L as my walkaround lens, my Sigma 30mm f/1.4 bc it's my fav lens, and my Tokina 11-16mm because I'd love to play around with some new types of shots at Disney.

Typically I like having a wider angle (~18 at least), a zoom for AK (up to 100-300) and a fast prime for dark rides (my 30mm, I personally didn't think the 50mm would be wide enough for me).

I bring a 10-22, 24-105, and 70-200, usually carrying any two of them with me to a park. On rare occasion I might carry all three but it gets kinda' heavy. If I plan on getting some low-light photos the 50 sometimes gets dropped into the bag too.

The only problem is that on an Olympus, the 50mm is effectively 100mm due to the 2x crop factor. On a 1.5-1.6x camera the 50mm (effectively 75mm) is almost a little too tight for dark ride shots. I would think that 100mm would just be frustrating. You might look into a lens a little wider than 50mm say around 30-35mm. I am not sure of the options for Oly, but you pretty much need at least f/2 for dark ride shots.

Good point!! And yes the 50 is a little tight on a crop body.

For the Olympus, I'd look into a Sigma 24mm f/1.8. This should be a nice focal length and aperture for any dark ride shooting and give you some nice creative depth of field for park shots.

Another lens to look at would be the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 in an Olympus mount. I have this lens for my Nikon and LOVE it.

I knew they had the 30mm but didn't realize the 24mm was available in 4/3 mount......thanks for the heads up :thumbsup2
