Lego Mindstorm... Discounts?

Barnes and noble has a 30% off coupon on BF, and I don't see exclusions for Lego, but I no longer see mindstorms on their website. I'll call our local store and see if they have them in stock, but I'm not hopeful. Hopefully amazon will drop theirs again.

It is now showing as in stock on the website, but the coupon code does not work for it. I tried to apply it and got an error that said "your order does not qualify for the coupon."

What people have done is go into the store, order it and when paying they give them the coupon. I don't believe you can apply any discount to Legos on their site.

They don't carry it in my area. Oh well, I had bookmarked that coupon on the Schoolastic website yesterday. It looks like that is the best deal for me.

Are you a Lego Vip member? I just ask because I am thinking with the 10 percent discount, and free shipping it still comes out a few dollars more but you get the free gift set and more importantly the VIP points which will add up to another 10 dollar discount for a future purchase. So for me it works out a tad better to do it that way. We go to the Lego store every time we are in Disney though so I know we'll use the rewards in February.

I'm not a Vip member, but I will definitely sign up now. Thanks!

They can order it and get it shipped to your store. You order it from the help desk and then take your order up to the register with your coupon. At least that is what was done in the past, I don't know if you can still do that with things like Legos though (this was last year)

For Scholastic vs. LEGO store, if you use ebates and have a LEGO store in your state (and thus tax), you come out a little ahead with the Scholastic deal, even with the VIP points. If you want the Christmas LEGO gift, though, they are about even.

Now, if we really could do the Barnes and Noble in the store, that would be better, especially with the 10% membership discount. I have a feeling that a lot of the LEGO discounts at BN have been taken away, however. :( Do I spend $5 on gas to go find out it doesn't work? Sigh.

I'm starting to get a little anxious about this:worried:
Do I pull the trigger and get the scholastic deal tonight? Wait for the Lego deal or something better? Or wait too long and pay full price because everything is gone?
This is why I end up paying too much for stuff.. I get antsy at the last minute:rotfl:

Ha! I am committed to waiting a bit more. If I see $230 I'm jumping on it though. Both amazon and target have dropped theirs down to $267, so maybe it'll drop further.

I called our B&N and they did not have it in stock, so guess that's out of the question for me. I'll call again on Friday morning to make sure. I don't see it online either... I saw it previously but not now. Where are you all seeing it??

I was just checking slickdeals and it looks like last year the price fell as low as $220 on Amazon on 11/25. (I don't know if that was BF last year).

Fry's b&m stores also had it for that price in Dec.

If you don't pay tax that Amazon deal is pretty good, but there is no guarantee it will drop that low this year.

I tried to buy it on line with the code and it said it was not valid for the item.

Edit to add I guess I should have read the whole thread. For those that are buying from Lego.com don't forget you can get skymiles if you go through the delta site.

And ebates is doing cash back for the toys section of amazon!

My plan is to check prices Friday (mostly hoping for Amazon) and then get that or the Scholastic deal, whichever is better. I will probably pull the trigger Friday' if only so I can stop thinking about it!

I am also looking for a deal. We have a Lego store. In years past, they offered an in-store scratch card for 10-50% off. Does anyone know if those can't be used on Mindstorms? I'm thinking I'll head out at midnight to the store and see what I get on the scratch card if that is still an option.

Walmart.com and Amazon.com are down to 240.00 this morning. Not sure if I should buy yet!
I doubt I'll see it much lower but you never know.

You beat me to it! I'm buying from walmart, b/c I can always return it easily if it comes on sale at a better deal. Using ebates for 4%. So excited!!!

Awesome!! Good Luck:)

I think I am still waiting .. with tax it is still so close to the Lego.com deal that we are wanting for the points. I wish I could remember if the price I had at Lego included the tax when I had it in my cart the other day!

Do you have a walmart near you so you don't miss out, just in case?

I did join VIP awhile ago but haven't really used it. I don't understand the points system. Does it work like credits in the store? We don't have a store near us but my oldest goes to Houston (4.5 hours away) a lot for medical appointments and we've gone to that store there. And we always go to the one in DTD when we're there. So what would the points equal out to for purchasing mindstorms thru LEGO?

I do have a Walmart near, but it's over the border so it's anybodies guess if I will get hit with duty fees when I bring it back. Usually I am not.. especially at Christmas they tend to wave you through when you show the receipts.
The VIP points are 100 points = 5 dollars. So not a huge savings.. but right now we have 99 points in our account. So with this purchase we'd be looking at over 200 points which would bring us over 300. We have a trip in February and ds always spends every cent of his trip money at the Lego store so it would be a 15 dollar discount for him then :)
Then again.. I don't even know if he's allowed to use them all at once. We've never had more than 100 points at a time.

It looks like the Scholastic website does not add tax into the price, but Amazon does. So with tax, The Amazon and Walmart deal came out to $260.73, and the scholastic sale came out to $241.91 because they don't charge tax.

This special is good until the 26th, correct? I didn't want to jump on that one b/c I wouldn't be able to return it if I find a better deal, since I know amazon has gone down to $230 before (may still be better depending on tax, but perhaps it'll drop lower than that). I ordered from walmart so I could return it easily if a better deal comes out. I imagine that we should see the best deals by monday or so, but again I can return at walmart anytime if needed. If nothing else comes out by the 26th, I may order it again from scholastic for the $20 savings.

Like a pp said, I really just need to stop looking... I love getting a great deal but this has consumed me since I first posted the question, so I would love to stop thikning about it!!
