Legality of Grand Floridian 2

The one major factor with the resort studios is the paper thin walls. That is just inexcusable. I have stayed at numerous Disney resorts, all levels, and never have I had paper thin walls at any of them.
Fwiw we stayed in the resort studios over July 4th and had no issues with noise. Not saying that people don’t but it wasn’t nearly as bad - for us - as some have made it out to be.

Personally I’d love for VGF to build some bigger units with theme park views but that’s just me.

We also added VGF2 points to primarily use at VGF1, though we have now stayed in the deluxe studios twice as well.

Never been with me and the Deluxe resorts I have stayed at.
Maybe we've had 50 years of unfortunately loud neighbors...I guess it's possible (except for the modular builds of the original contemp and poly, which as a result are great for sound dampening). We've had many a chat with management over the years. Even the Grand Royal Palm Club Level is paper walls. Back in 1988 we used to joke that they hadn't heard of safe and sound insulation, lol. But I'd say consider yourself lucky if this is the first you're experiencing it.

Noise, however, is relative to who is next to you. If you have paper walls but your neighbors aren't loud, then you won't hear anything and there wouldn't be any sound issue. So it's a combo of no sound insulation coupled with noisy neighbors. We get noisy neighbours about 80% of the time I'd say (noisy meaning we can't sleep or you can't hear your own TV over theirs if you're watching at night etc).

Oh lawd. 80%, I can't imagine.

I was going to mention this. Happened at SSR. Treehouses added a lot of points at a resort that for years has featured a lot of people claiming to neve r book it as home.
At least the Tree houses were a unique accommodation. They didn't affect the rest of the resort. In fact the Treehouses may be the only thing that books up there. DVC took the cheap way out on the new building. Nothing but regular studios. Albeit some with a great view. Would have been nice if they tore down that building and put up a twin of the other building.

My opinion is that the conversion of the building was made to give them something new to sell along with RIV, once the Reflections project got canceled…that had been slated to open in 2022…as they waited to open sales at VDH….

Given the soft demand for cash bookings at GF hotel, it served both parks division and DVD division well.

Original owner here and bought because the studios had a stand up shower which I need. Was very disappointed that they added the resort studios, but I did book one for friends because the three could each have their own sleeping surface. For us, I book the original studios.

VGF is the least favorite of my home resorts. I try to stay there only to be close to the Easter Eggs and Gingerbread house. So far, I have been OK getting a room for those times.

Paper thin walls is our issue with all Deluxe resorts (including the Grand long before DVC ever opened on property). Only the Polynesian, Contemporary and BLT for some lucky reason are relatively quiet. We have neighbor noise issues at WL, BC, AK and so on. It has always been one of my major issues.
I am interested in the cabins for this reason. Maybe you as well?

I love the Treehouses!

We stayed in the Polynesian Bungalows several times for this reason...and then during covid had the worst neighbor problem of all at WDW when the bungalow next door was smoking on their deck non-stop (drifting to our deck and bungalow), blasting music and swearing like there was no tomorrow. Basically a spring break type of party vibe. This escalated to the point that we had the Polynesian hotel manager and security involved. They were excellent, took it very seriously and laid down the law to the point of informing this group in no uncertain terms that they would be escorted from the property immediately if there was one more incident (as all of those and more were violations no family should have to put up with to those extremes). No more bungalows for us. We've found after many stays there that often groups go in for one night to party because not many can afford a full week there. That's just been our experience unfortunately. So the bungalows went from our favorite to a no-go. The only sure-fire for us so far is a VGF Grand Villa.

That's horrible!

I fully agree. Basically, the flip was the same soft goods refurb that the other GF buildings got, quick and inexpensive, slightly different colors, plus microwave. Solved problems for two divisions.

How many out there think that they will eventually add another building there onto DVC?

My guess they are done with VGF. 202 was a lot of rooms.

With Poly tower coming to the area, they really don’t need more DVC monorail rooms.

But, if they were going to add more, my guess is they would do something to the garden wing of CR to convert to DVC.

The crazy thing with the treehouses is they were the same points as a 2 bedroom when the additional points were sold. Then as soon as sales were completed, treehouses were bumped up and 2 bedrooms went down a little. That was kind of sleazy.
