Legacy FP Machine SHUT DOWN at Magic Kingdom!!!!!!!!!!

This new system does not allow people to relax, take things slow, sleep in, or anything like that if they want to hit all the headliners. The FP to SB ratio will have changed for many people, but it's still hard to drastically change your touring style.

Debatable. If you used to sleep in and not use legacy FP at all because they ran out by the time you got to the park, then now you can sleep in and ride two or three rides (depending on the park and tiering) with very short waits that in the past you would have had to wait an hour+ for. These people likely love FP+ because they are willing to wait an hour for a ride, now they have cut that hour wait off of 2-3 rides per day and they can do something else. If you want to do absolutely everything at the park in a day, then of course you have to show up at RD, there's just not enough hours in the day (except at DAK of course). It will always be the best tip to show up when there are not many people at the park, whether that be coming during off times, coming bright and early, or staying for the 3 AM EMH

Same reason that the stand by line is the answer when you have tiering and limits to deal with, however it is absolutely NOT the answer when you miss out on FP-.

Yup.

As we are slowly starting our planning, I think the new system works better for those with longer stays. We will be there 9 days, so we have a number of days to be able to hit all the rides we want because we have time to go back again during the trip, probably a few times. This allows us time for park hopping, rope drop days and sleep in days. In fact, it feels like fast pass + will work out for us and our touring style.
I can see it being a problem if you have limited time in the parks though.

I should have said ride all the headliners with little to no wait. With the tiering and restrictions placed on FP+, I still cannot walk into a park with all my selections and ride the headliners like people make it sound like.

FP+ still requires people to do RD if they want to minimize waits.

I really do wish that at the very least Disney set up the FP+ slots to on-site guests the way they set up dining credits. That way if someone wanted to spend a day at the resort they could still use those slots on another day. But then I guess that won't happen since the guest might (gasp) decide to go offsite to US for the day.

Maybe they could take the parking lots out of all the resorts to discourage having a car onsite too.

Yes, but that will always be the case. If you waltz in at noon now with three FP+ booked you will spend less time waiting then if you had done the same thing 2 years ago.

oh I do like that idea- its probably not in the cards right now (the system doesn't seem sophisticated enough to do that) but it is a good idea!

also, who wants to have a car on vacation anyway ;)

Not me. Up until now anyway. We didn't even rent one on our DLR trip last month.

We'll evaluate again before heading to Orlando again as I think we will strike out and see what all the fuss is about that other park in town. ;)

For us...Don't hate me...the new system seems to work better...no crazy planning...schedule FP+ in the late afternoons...spend the day by the pools and enjoy the parks at night (especially when late nights are available for on-site guests!) Maybe this will force us all to slow down a bit more:cool1::cool1:

I don't want to slow down. I don't get to spend 2 weeks at Disney this trip. I only get 4 days. So, I want to maximize my activity.

I am glad that this system was not in place when my kids were young. Those were golden days of freedom - we could actually decide what rides we wanted to fp based on where we were in the park, which rides actually needed fp's, what we were in the mood for, etc. And we could actually hop and still pull fp's. Its a more restrictive system for us.

I'm going down with my sister next month and it won't matter much at all. We don't need to ride every ride, so choosing a few fp's now is somewhat convenient for us. But I will miss the freedom of the good old days when I go back with my family.

I completely agree with this. In the 'good old days" we visited during the peak weeks, Easter and Christmas..... and were able to get to the parks at rope drop, start collecting the fast passes we wanted, and jump on any rides whose wait time was reasonable.... all before 11 am when the parks would get crowded.

I visited the parks Christmas week with my daughter, used our 3 FP+ then waited on ridiculous lines. The worst was AK, where the paper Fastpass machines were completely not in use at all.

This new system stinks.... to me anyway. It made our experience less enjoyable.

And to think..... I actually came here looking for the positive side to FP+.... but ended up complaining about it.
I'm trying to regain some of my prior enthusiasm for Disney, but I'm so aggravated with the new FP+ system.... :sad2: UGH.

Haven't been yet since FP+. We are going for Spring Break (always the week leading to Easter for us), which is the only time we can go. We will have 4 days in the parks. We are staying at Shades of Green, so won't be able to book FP in advance. We will see how it goes, and if it goes well for us, as it has in the past, then we will continue to make WDW one of our main vacations. If it goes poorly, then we will have to rethink WDW, unless/until we are able to go during less crowded times. I will try and get back to you after our trip and let you know how things look at one of the most crowded times of the year.

Are you buying tickets at Shades of green or before? I was reading an article The military disney tips website on FP+ and how they work with the vouchers received on bases. Check there for more info

We slowed down and took it easy plenty with FP- and still managed 5-7 FPs in MK. With only 4 days in the park (AFS tickets), we don't have the time to slow down any more than we used to, but now FP+ gives us less opportunity to access shorter lines.

Right now you still have to be staying at a Disney resort to prebook. Shades is not considered onsite for FP+ (at this point, anyway).

RD at morning EMH park, hop to a different park where you have your FP+, then enjoy the night at evening EMH/whichever park is open late that night (since not every night has an evening EMH park)- you'll still get plenty done if you don't want to stop.

For what it's worth. I just went through our "Disney box" and found 22 paper FPs that we never used. :scared1:

That breaks down to me screwing over approximately 0.314 people in my lifetime of trips to WDW. And now I am craving pie. Great.
