Leaving WDW on Marathon Day

I have a quick question about transportation on marathon day itself. Some of my family members will be down at WDW staying at Shades of Green during the upcoming Marathon Weekend in January. They're actually doing the Half-Marathon on Saturday and will be trying to leave the morning of the full marathon.

They have a later flight scheduled already but are looking to leave a little earlier now with a flight around noon from MCO. My question is does anybody know if it would be possible/easy to get out from Shades of Green and WDW property during this morning? I know that the marathon course sort of goes near SoG and that area but can traffic still get out to the main thoroughfares and allow them to leave - my guess is they'd probably want to leave around 7:30 or 8.

While I don't know the official answer, they must have some route set up for transportation around the marathon. You can't force everyone at one hotel to stay put because of an event like that. Certainly, many guests will have no idea it's marathon weekend.

Shades provides information about Marathon road closures to their guests. We received our email with the closures and impacts on December 8.

In summary there is no way they will be able to leave Shades around 7:30-8 am since the road will be closed for the marathon. The Shades entrance is closed to traffic from approximately 4:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. race mornings. Guests may park at the Polynesian those mornings for those who need to leave Shades while the road is closed.
