Hi Everyone,

We usually rent a car but thinking of using DME for our upcoming trip. I'm a little concerned leaving my carry-on with valuables such as a laptop, camera, etc. Not only are these items "valuable" but they are delicate.

Any experiences?

Thank you.

While we don't use ME, we always leave many things with Bell Services @ the resort when our room isn't ready. Multiple camera bags, laptops, iPods, etc. We have never had a problem.

Edited: In giving this more thought -- that question isn't related to ME anyway - you wouldn't be checking those items in your luggage I assume, but carrying them on (I hope so). Unless your question is about how the bus driver would handle putting them under the bus if that was necessary?

I take my carry-ons with me onto the bus. As you don't need to wait for your luggage, just take the valuables with you. Also at Bell services if your room isn't ready, have them list the laptop etc on your slip as proof you left it.

I take my carry ons onto the bus with me. When we arrive at the hotel, if our room is not ready (we usually arrive mid-morning so that is normal for us) we leave the bags with bell services. I mention that one bag needs secure storage because I put all my medications (which incldudes narcotics) and electronics in there. I also have a bag that requires refrigeration that has my diabetes medication in it. I have never had a problem.

When we check out, we leave check the big bags at the airline check in. Carry on's go to bell services - same routine as check in except I usually don't need refrigeration at that point.

When you pick up the bags, it is easiest on the bell services folks if you mention one bag is secure and one is refrigerated.

Wow, thanks for posing this question. Every time I think I've thought of everything I learn something new on the DIS!

We have a late (5:30) flight and are planning to do DHS our last morning and leaving almost everything with bell services. Now I know to collect all SIX people's electronics in one bag and ask for "secure" storage. Sets my mind more at ease ... for a concern I didn't even know I would have!

If you're really worried about leaving it with bell services, you could always take it with you to the park and rent a locker there to keep them in. Then, you'd have to deal with taking them on the bus with you to the park & taking it through bag check.

I learned a great tip on the Dis a couple of years ago that I've been using ever since. When you check in, ask for use of a locker, these are behind the check in desk. (or at the BC, they are in a room off to the left) It's simple, they will walk you over to them, have you sign a form for how much your valuables are, you place your stuff in one, then take the key. We usually then head to the pool for a few hours. We then go back when we want to get into our room, and retrieve our stuff. Simple, and you don't have to worry about anyone (not even bell service staff) having access to anything.:thumbsup2

Anything of value left with Bell Services is put in a locked cage. I had to go back and get an envelope I had left in my computer bag, and had to wait until someone checked my receipt and then had to get the keys to unlock my bag.

We regularly leave such items with bell services at WDW. We make 4+ visits a year and never had any problem with the way bell services handling them.

We have left our stuff at Pop Century twice with them. They put ziptie thingys on it to show it was not opened. They have always been great to us.

We leave our valuables as well. I asked about where the items are held because of my computer, and they told me it is climate controlled. Never had a problem. :)

My husband was VERY concerned about leaving his laptop at Bell Services the first time we did it, and they were very good with his backpack. They put a FRAGILE sticker on the bag. We've done it several times since then have have had no problems at all.

Valuables should be left with the concierge to be put in the "hotel safe" but since you mentioned a locked cage I would think that that is officially the same thing.
