We leave tomorrow when my husband gets home from work. :cool1: We have a 24 hour drive ahead of us!! We did it once before, so when flight prices remained high, we decided to do it again. My girls are 12 and 10 now, so hopefully with all their technology they'll keep quiet. I am paying them $1 for every hour they are good in the car!! This will be our 5th trip as a family, and we are just as excited as our first trip, actually probably even more excited. For us, the magic never ends.

So excited for you! Let us know how the car ride goes. I like the idea of paying them $1 for every hour of good behavior. The magic never ends for us either, and with a little one now we are seeing things and paying attention to things we never cared about before.

Wow! Makes my 9.5 hour drive seem like child's play... :drive::drive:

With airfare they way it is, can't say I blame ya (of course, gas is going up rapidly now too...)

Have a great time!!

Have a safe and fun trip - we just booked our New Year's trip and have a 21 hour drive ourselves, but the kids joining us this trip are 17 and 18, so no worries with trying to keep them busy! Gosh, how am I going to sleep for the next 4 months, I'm so excited!!!:goodvibes

Just out of curiosity, about how much does it cost the typical family to drive?? Right now, DH has a job that travels so we clean up on frequent flier miles and fly. He's a on a two year plan to get out of said job and then it means paying for airfare.

However, I'm wondering if it would be that much more cost-efficient for us. We'd also have about a 24 hour drive and small kids so it probably would mean a stop over somewhere.....

What do you all spend in gas/food along the way?

I use the fuelcostcalculator.com website - our drive is about $500 roundtrip for gas, give or take depending on prices. We generally stop a bit over halfway (drive as long as we can first night, 13-14 hours), then stop at Welcome Center for whatever state we will be staying over in for a coupon book, can usually get a good deal for room right on the interstate (maybe $70 if we're lucky). Food, we pack snacks/sandwiches/beverages in a cooler and then usually stop for a good, hot meal when we pick a hotel (our favourite is Cracker Barrel). Breakfast we try to get free at our hotel, unless we leave super early then we will just have breakfast bars I pack and fruit. So there and back, generally $700 roundtrip. We factor in that we don't have to get a car rental when we're at Disney, so compared to prices for our upcoming trip to fly and rent a car for four of us, we are saving about $600.:cool1:
